This year they unveiled a large art project on the site of an abandoned open cast mine just outside the village. THe artist Charles Jencks created a similar work in his garden about 20 miles away, which is open to the public one day a year and draws visitors from around the world.

I don't get it as art, although it's a lot better looking than the open cast mine. It's proved quite popular though.

Reading that again & thinking there was probably an old curmudgeon in Wiltshire around about 2400BC saying "I don't get it as art"...

I love this. It is art. His own gardens look stunning. All IMO of course...

There have been a few burglaries near our house in the last few weeks.  I wasn't the happiest when I was sat in the lounge and I could here a quiet but clear tapping from the downstairs bathroom window.  I got hold of a brave pill and made my way quietly to the room.  As I got closer, I could here the tapping clearly.

I pushed the door open quietly with my phone ready.  And there was my burglar.  This chaffinch was sat on the window ledge and every few seconds he was taking off and attacking the window.  I watched it for a short while and became a bit worried about both my window and his health.   I walked up to the window and made my best cat noise and he disappeared sharpish.

I looked this up later and the best explanation I could find is that he could see his reflection in the window and was just defending his territory from the "other" chaffinch.

I guess this is where the saying bird brained must come from.

Have you ever seen anything like this before?

Classic chaffinch behaviour. He's just a decoy chaffinch. While you were attending to him, three other chaffinches were nicking your telly.

Bum.

I posted this before I watched it and it's not the one I thought it was.

I'll post the other one if I can find it.

I lose my reading glasses 50 times a day when I'm at home, then I spend anywhere between 5 and 30 minutes looking for them and it agrivates the crap out of me. Often, by the time I've found them, I've forgotten why I wanted them.

Eventually, when I've been looking for ages and asked everyone 100 times if they've seen them, I give in and get a fresh pair from the tureen where I keep my spares.

Well today, I had one of those light bulb moments (is it an epiphany?) Now when lose my glasses I don't look for them at all, l just get a fresh pair out straight away. That way I can remember what I wanted them for and my frustration level remains at zero.  (unless I use them to read about Donald Trump)

My lost glasses always turn up eventually, (sometimes almost immediately) it's very rare I get as far a spare pair #4 before I find 1, 2 or 3.

I wonder how many more of life's little annoyance could be solved with a bit of lateral thinking?
