I'm welling up here, thinking of that lovely old Hayter which you betrayed.

Should never have got rid of it imo.

Remember we were talking about sticky buds? Well I saw these today. I don't know what they're called but they are the dogs sticky bud bollocks.

Get a handful of these babies rubbed into your hair and it's crew-cut time.

I know, I was that soldier...

Dandelion and Burdock pop fame

Cheers Trev. I've been researching it a bit.

Dandelion and burdock is today a soft drink that has long been popular in the United Kingdom, which has its origins in hedgerow mead commonly drunk in the mediæval period.

The prickly heads of these plants (burrs) are noted for easily catching on to fur and clothing. In England, some birdwatchers have reported that birds have become entangled in the burrs leading to a slow death, as they are unable to free themselves.

After taking his dog for a walk one day in the late 1940s (1948), George de Mestral, a Swiss inventor, became curious about the seeds of the burdock plant that had attached themselves to his clothes and to the dog's fur. Under a microscope, he looked closely at the hook system that the seeds use to hitchhike on passing animals aiding seed dispersal, and he realized that the same approach could be used to join other things together. His work led to the development of the hook and loop fastener, which was initially sold under the Velcro brand name.

Hi Tom, I just love how you can post a photo. I say bike? and you come up with a great story to go with it. You do this regularly, love the way you and Tikay both write about your lives. Think you both have a great book in yourselves.

Woah there Missy!

What a pot and kettle statement that is. If anyone on this forum has book inside them it's you.

To write a book you don't have to live a an incredibly exciting life, you just have to be incredibly excited about life and have the ability to pass that excitement on to your readers. You have that in spades.

I'm not saying it's easy. Having a book inside you and getting the bastard out on to paper are two different things entirely.

Ralph is the exception BTW. He writes effortlessly, he just can't be arsed.

Anyway, back to the mower.

If the new, younger, fancier mower was so good, why did I regret selling the old one?

Well to cut a long story short the old mower used to break down every week and I would have to mend it. The new one only broke down once, but it was one of those fucking printed circuit, fly-by-wire, computer controlled, ecu based bastard issues and I couldn't mend it.

Oh I tried, if you can call paying a 7 year old "mechanic" who wore spotless biege trousers and a condicending smirk good money to plug his lap top into it and shake his head trying that is.

Options exhausted, there was nothing for it but to consign my young, sexy, one breakdown and it's game over mower to the scrapheap, where she still sits with her plastic gleaming, ready to pollute the planet for another thousand years instead of quietly rotting away like any other self-respecting implement.

Over the next decade I had a succession of mowers with varying degrees of success, some were OK, some were crap but I vowed that one day... As God was my witness one day I would own another hydrostatic Hayter with a 16 HP Briggs & Stratton v twin engine.

Well folks, that day has arrived.

I love this quote Trev. I collect good quotes but I've never heard that one before.

BTW- it seems like I'm having a good crack at making all the mistakes myself.
