Frasier is back. Allegedly.

Anyone hear the blues a calling?

First 2 episodes are quite enjoyable. I was a bit sceptical but glad to be proven wrong.

Well Rodney should fit in with the intellectual set, he's got a GCSE in art.

When a plane is coming in to land, why do you have to open the window blinds?

When a plane is coming in to land, why do you have to open the window blinds?

Always wondered that, never asked.

'The first reason is your safety. If anything happens during a take-off or landing, your eyes will already be used to the day or night light outside, thus you will be able to react more quickly.

Another reason for keeping the blinds open is visibility of aircraft outside. If any problems occur with the engine or wings, the crew can see it out of those tiny round windows in a cabin. If the aircraft needs to be evacuated, passengers and the whole crew is able to see which side of the aircraft is safer for evacuation.'

When I was perhaps 6 or7 my dad used to sing snatches of a song that I thought was about something called "The Big Rancoolie Dam".

It was one of those songs that tell a story and the lyrics fascinated me even though I didn't understand some of them, especially those about factories and flying fortresses.

Today for some reason I decided to Google the lyrics and that prompted me to Google the Dam itself. Its a great story, especially for concrete lovers.

Now the world holds seven wonders
That the travellers always tell
Some gardens and some towers,
I guess you know them well
But now the greatest wonder
Is in Uncle Sam's fair land
It's the big Columbia River
And the big Grand Coulee Dam

She heads up the Canadian Rockies
Where the rippling waters glide
Comes a-roaring down the canyon
For to meet that salty tide
Of the big Pacific Ocean
Where the sun sinks in the west
In the big Grand Coulee country
In the land I love the best

In the misty crystal glitter
Of the wild and windward spray
Men have fought the pounding waters
And met a watery grave
Why, she tore their boats to splinters
But she gave men dreams to dream
Of the day the Coulee Dam
Would cross that wild and wasted stream

Now Uncle Sam took up the challenge
In the year of thirty three
For the farmer and the factory
And all of you and me
He said, "Roll along Columbia,
You can roll down to the sea
But river, while you're rambling
You can do some work for me."

Now from Washington and Oregon
You can hear the factories hum
Making chrome and making manganese
And white aluminum
Now the roar of the Flying Fortress
For to fight for Uncle Sam
On the howling King Columbia
By the big Grand Coulee Dam

Believe it or not, I have several books about Grand Coulee Dam. I really enjoyed them, but when the time comes to sell my book collection down the Car Boot I'm not expecting a rush.

This is a great podcast. Even if you don't do podcasts, try this one.

Home secretary James Cleverly, (who I don't like BTW) makes a JOKE, in PRIVATE, about spiking his wife's drink so that she doesn't realise there are better men out there.

Apparently it's headline news, superseding wars and murders. There are calls for his resignation.

Sky even managed to find a father who's son died in a drink spiking indecent to ask his unbiased opinion...

On the left is someone changing the result of the experiment by looking at it.

Happy New Year back at you.
