Hello and welcome to the EPT in Dortmund from myself and Jen.

This thread will be used as an interactive service where you can follow your favored players, request chip counts from us, and if you ask nicely we may even be able to get a picture or two of your preferred combatants.

For a more concise version of events, feel free to browse our At a glance thread by clicking the link below.

We come fresh from the exciting welcoming party last night, which boasted such attractions as man spinning on head on football whilst juggling enormous baton with feet. There's probably a far more concise and aerodyte way of expressing that. Dude had skills, that's all I'm saying.

Also present as part of the entertainment were "Snake Woman" and "Fire Woman", sounding intriguingly like potential Heroes characters. Sadly, I missed out on these whilst trying to restrain "Chocolate Fountain Jen", less likely to make it into the heroes show, but definitely more focused than those two on trying to launch herself headfirst into the decadent chocolate fountain Pokerstars had provided.

Amongst the players at the party were Julian Thew of course, who was fresh faced and ready to add yet another title to his already bulging sack of trophies. Can anyone stop him? We were also joined by German player George Danzer, who although famous partly for sharing a table with Dimitri Noble (remember HIM!) in the 2006 WSOP, has recently picked up a sponsorship deal with pokerstars. Despite success at tournaments all over europe, fame from the part Danzer played in the 2006 WSOP has stayed with him, and I witnessed evidence of this as a drunk Canadian came over to him last night in an amusing exchange..

Drunk Canadian: "Hey man you're that guy who was on on Dmitri Noble's table...what a donk huh!"

GD: [laughing] "Yes, that's me"

DC: "I thought you were awwwwesome man! I'm totally bringing a t shirt down for you to sign tomorrow ok?"

GD: "Ok, sure"

DC: "Cool man! I'm gonna put it straight up on Ebay! Seeya tomorrow dude!"

Bizarre, but very amusing!

The EPT is due to commence at 15:00 over here in Dortmund, which will be 14:00 for you guys following back in the UK. Once we get to the casino, we should have a little more information on runners, player lists etc so we will post them up in due course. Join us for what promises to be a quality tournament, packed with talent.

See you there!

Is it me, or is this update thread the worst ever?

Get your fingers out and give us some chip counts now, or I want my money back and I'm going to stop posting on here forever.

Hehe, I am a sub-moron in the morning pre-coffee. After coffee I am transformed. I am then just a moron!

Second worst I reckon. Not as bad as those ones from Brighton, they were awful. I'm surprised no one brought it up at the time.

Well we've traversed the woods and mountains, journeying far from our hotel on the other side of the country town.  The Casino Hohensyburg is a very pleasant venue - I remember it from last year - with its modern art and glass stairways and big tourney room.  Currently the players down for the first start day are mainly clumping around tall tables with tea and coffee, having picked up their Player IDs which will, hopefully, track their progress through the tournament a la Systeme du Jon Raab.

There's an atmosphere of competent cordiality here, and I have every hope that play will actually start in about half an hour.

Spotted (not playing today):  Daniel Negreanu

Spotted (playing today): Rob Hollink
Alex Kravchenko
Steve Jelinek
Maz Nawab
Cristiano Blanco
Sorel Mizzi
Katja Thater
Mats Iremark
Julian Thew
Johan Storakers
Ilari Sahamies

Spotted at party:
Annette Obrestad
Jan Heitmann
Marcel Luske
Woman in underwear wrapped in snake
Julian Thew (so good I named him twice)
Benjamin Gallen

Maybe it's time to take some pictures.

Much though I had hoped for a smooth 3pm start, it looks like all there is to take pictures of upstairs is this slightly sullen queue of poker players, which is not moving at all.  "It looks like there are only two people dealing with it at the end," said a still-cheerful Mazhar Nawab, looking into the distance.

And, in case you were in any doubt that this clean-lined white/glass/stainless steel European Casino wasn't still VegasWorld at heart...there's this totally unexpected neon monstrosity hung in the otherwise show-home clean lobby...
