Along with Chad Brown, reigning champion Gavin Griffin, and surely deservedly so, is the latest in a long line of players to be sponsored by the PokerStars brand.

Oh all right, hands up, here's the real Butters, Mr Jonothon Butters, serial GUKPT finalist from last year.

It's Marcel Baran.

I remember he busted out in the first level last year holding on a two spades board vs 6-5o

Much more of a likely returner on the EPT circuit is pro French player Arnaud Mattern, who won Prague.  I think it would be interesting to do a Tournament of Champions with all the EPT winners against one another... who do you think would take the cake?

Reason for blurriness of photo coming momentarily...

Here it is:  The back of Boris Becker's head.  Yes, as you see he's attracted quite a media frenzy, being famous for at least one thing other than poker...

As I pretended to be much more interested in Runar Runarsson (the guy with the sunglasses looking suspiciously upwards) the media gent opposite me kept a firm track on the tennis star's face and a floorman or security person came up to me and insisted I turn my flash off.  I was then sort of watched as I went to the nearby tables, and felt it only prudent not to annoy him on that round.

Incidentally, all this concern being shown about Boris at the table (i.e. Stop the Flashing or he Might Get Distracted in his First Big Tournament) seems counterintuitive - he's surely creating a lot of media buzz for Pokerstars and must be used to the paparazzi blinding him with their cameras by now.  I do, however, feel for the other players at the table.

updates on my man andrew "tufat23" teng please!!!

Andrew Teng is currently on 13,450 and sharing a table with fellow Brits, Manuel Palanca (12,575 - "I keep bluffing off my chips, that's my problem"), Paul Ephremsen (11,500 - "I've had A-K beaten twice") and Paul Bracken (15,000 "We had a great piss up in Manchester last year"), not to mention a cucumber cool Mats Iremark, the EPT Dueville winner flying high with almost 30k in chips.

And don't worry, I won't tell anyone that Andrew is 'your man'.

Rumit Somaiya, who claims to have lost his mini Rubik's Cub card protector, was last spotted in the fray of the action. He folded to a check-raise on an 8c-6c-5c Flop to leave him with crica 13k in chips. Next door, Chris Moneymaker is fairing even worse, his frustration showing as his riffles just two chips worth a total of 6k.

No problem, we are open-minded, like...

I think this is your main man, looking as summery as a Hawaiian in June on the way to the beach eating ice cream, a small ray of bright pink cutting through the crowds of subdued black shirts and belogoed hoodies:

Joe Lovelady's stack has risen slightly to 17,500, partly due to a small pot with Vanessa Rousso. There was a bet and a call on a Th-Jd-4c Flop, before both players checked the Td Turn. Joey then bet out 575 on the Jh River, only for Vanessa to first deliberate for long enough to lure in the cameras, before finally disappointing them with a fold. As a result, Vanessa has now dropped down to 13,575.
