Carrick has been inconsistent. Alonso has been excellent all year.

Fair point, hence why he's in brackets (although without the laughs)
FWIW i believe Alonso to be a truely class player and would be in my world XI starting midfield

They're playing in different positions this season. Carrick is the out and out DCM and Alonso is more CM with Mascherano as DCM.

No Tevez = No justice
Fair comment, and I really like his workrate for the team, but would he be in his clubs starting XI with everyone fit ?
He's started half the games this season and scored 3 goals.
I rate Van Der Sar highly, but how much was he the reason ManYoo were keeping clean sheets? I ask you this as you watch their games more than I do, but I think Vidic annd Ferdinand/Evans + Carrick were maybe more of a reason why they kept that many clean sheets.
My team
Schwarzer
Bosingwa
Ferdinand
Vidic
Clichy
Ronaldo
Gerrard
Carrick
Young
Anelka
C Cole
Some unfashionable names, but they have all been outstanding this season. Davies for Bolton has been excellent but I chose Cole because Davies is a donkey. ;-)
no Bent ?
Nope because he is absolute wank.
i'm beginning to like you Nem

Still Carrick has more goals in open play and more assists. I'm trying to find a site where it will also show me tackle %'s and pass completion rates, where I expect Carrick to be ahead in both of them as well.
Carrick plays for Manchester United. Alonso plays for Lolpool. Also didn't the Fat Waiter want to swap Alonso for Gareth Barry?
I could never imagine Ferguson doing that with Carrick.
You never know though...;-)

Sums up the reason why I started the thread much better than I could.

Firstly the pass completion may be higher as it's a % and he plays less games than Alonso. Secondly Utd play more attacking football than anyone else in the opposition half so again this stat may be in his favour. Thirdly Carrick isn't always a certainty to start in the big, big games vs better opposition where losing the ball more and making worse passes is a certainty.
Opta will show you these stats anyway, but you cant measure influence though and I think you know my opinion on that one.
After a season of being average Alonso was on his way out yes. I doubt that'd happen now though. He's been awesome this season. Back to how he was when he got here. In fairness to Carrick he'll be better once Hargreaves is there to do the donkey work, al la Alonso/Mascherano although I cant knock Fletcher anymore tbh.

I really dont know what to make of the nominations. Obviously the players vote for them hence there gonna be different to most fans.
A few players who havent made who really should be there imo are Alonso, Hangelaand, Cahill and Danny Murphy.
And Lol @ thinkin Carrick will ever be as good as Alonso.

Haven't seen enough of Alonso, but Carrick has faded in the last month. His vanishing act against L'pool at OT was part of the problem for us that day, and his carelessness in possession last night almost cost us dear.
I know the PFA Award is supposed to be based on the season in question, but I'd love to see Giggs get it for all those years of excellence which have gone before.
I suspect that Gerrard will get it because the United votes will be split - as Ginola did in '99

Gerrard will win because he has been the best player in this country this season.
