Not suprised one little bit about this, I hear lots of similar stories as friends and family are often defending people who have been screwed over by police not clever enough to get their story water tight. Virtually all of these you can get off with if you hire someone who's clued up, but these cost as you well know.

Glad it seems to have been resolved in the right way Guy.
But one point, has this really caused you a lot of stress over the last 9 months or so?

Post more details.
I wouldn't tarnish all traffic police with the same brush though. I've met some very decent ones, and they're only enforcing the law and doing their job. I imagine it's like most things - there are good ones and bad ones - unfortunately it's often only the bad ones that are remembered.
is this a windup post? not sure tbh.
Not a wind up.
We can all bring out a couple of anecdotes to show that the whole police force is corrupt and that traffic cops take delight in getting people done for trivial or trumped up charges. If I mention a few positive anecdotes does that make all the police OK? Like I said, there are definitely bad apples in the police, and I'd love to hear all the details in this case. I'm sure the police office in this case was a complete *****.

I brought in a local community police officer into college a few years ago to speak to my students and educate them on the his job etc.. He had been a police man for 20 years+ and the last 3 as a community one, speaking in schools, colleges. We had a little question and answer session at the end of his talk and one of the students asked about the people joining the force today and and their motives for doing so.
I was absolutely astonished with his answer, it was basically most new recruits were totally inappropriate and joining for money or a power trip. He said it was really sad for him to admit this but he was often ashamed and what the force had become. All the students were like wow.
Given this plus what my wife tells me (she works in law) regarding corrupt police and clogging up the system with false charges due to them being on power trips makes me think its a 50/50 coinflip on good cops bad cops.
I had some great experiences dealing with police when I was involved in a car crash, but so so many negatives watching football games.

and at the same time I know of at least 4 people who, over the years, have failed to make the grade to join the police for one reason or another, all of whom, imo, would have been great in the job, and doing it for all the right reasons.

LOTS!
This kind of thing is always in the back of your mind. I have also had an extremely stressful 5 months of life generally (redundancy etc), and the last thing you need is 3 court dates where you turn up and it gets cancelled, or they cancel the week before.
So yes - im not going to say i worried everyday, but worrying about something i just shoudnt have to is unacceptable.
They can also be punituve with points if you plead not guilty and lose. Although I have a clean licence, i need my car for work - and 6 or 9 points would totally screw me over!

In Grampian the Police have to wear their Pokerstars usernames on their shoulders. It's part of some wierd sponsorship deal.
When the Police piss me off I just sharkscope them. Makes me feel better.

It is a sad fact that many people who have been in the same job / with the same company for a long period get a bit disillusioned, and often have a 'things aint what they used to be' attitude.
This skews their view on events / people within their workplace.
I'm with Kin on this.
I've met some very good Police people, and occasionally one that isn't so good.
Just because you meet a bad one, doesn't make all Police bad - but it amazes me how many people think that way.
IMO it's an attitude that has a parallel with racism.
