Despite the big puddles in the home straight Shawfield's track was lightning-fast last night +50/+60.

The winner of the puppy race immediately before the Derby heats did the clock.

Was just outside clock, but yeah very very fast. That puppy came from a good but back and still only 0.02 off the clock.

No real strong views but had a few darts. Mostly for interest. Courier Bob to make all, Volvo just favoured over the EP of T5 given his draw as sole unseeded, Quaver Knighy needs to rediscover some form but I reckon he can turn closer than recently, and Droopys Zone looks overpriced and with a good run is fastest here.

The Greyhound Derby begins next week from it's new home in Towcester with the draw for the first round tomorrow.

I have no idea how the track will behave tbh but have had an EW dabble on Scottish Derby winner Dorotas Woo Hoo @25/1.

Anyone else watching the heats tonight or vaiguely interested in the proceedings?

A watching brief tonight for me, Ralph, unless someone I respect - or Ch10mpy - can come up with a few bets.

I've barely got used to the Greyhound Derby being at Wimbledon rather than White City, & now it has moved again. And, whilst I'm no expert at the dogs, Towcester does not exactly flick many switches for me. I can barely believe it is hosting the Greyhound Derby, tbh.

PS - Good luck with Woo Hoo

watching brief for me mainly tonight.  Not a course i follow at all normally.  Keeping an open mind regarding all the hot air about wides not being able to win.  Graded racers have a slightly different turn of pace than derby winners so it should be interesting to watch.

Gl to all who have played ante post.

Agree - the inside bias might be a little exaggerated.

Quite a few wides seem to have plot draws so it'll be interesting to see how they perform.

Never been to Towcester and it doesn't quite get the pulse racing like Wimbledon or White City(how I miss those jellied eels from the "Eel Bar" on the cheap side), but hopefully it will grow on me.

My first impression is that I don't like the track, a little too quirky for my taste with long bends and short straights.

This could all change if Woo Hoo takes to it tomorrow.

Someone must have squirted WD40 in the six box. Marvellous.

Incredible scenes Ralph.  No excuses at 2nd bend it was challenging for 3rd and found nothing coming home and finished tailed off last.  Think must be slight injury there i would imagine.  Should have still qualified there if all was well.
