Top new show recently though has to be Charlie Brooker's Weekly Wipe. His take on the Romanian/Bulgarian immigrants issue and on Benefits Street display the sheer genius of the man.

Hope you've watched his other stuff. Newswipe, gameswipe, how TV ruined your life and the original Screenwipe.

Some, but not all, of those.

Just started watching Don't Look Down on 4OD

Fascinated & horrified in equal measure, had to close my eyes, & stop half way.... I'll come back to it later.

Ditto, I actually walked out of the room when they went on that suspension bridge in the Ukraine.

Nutters.

Uncle on BBC 3 stars Nick Helm and could be truly great based on the first episode.

In contrast, the Vic n Bob thing has been removed from the Chez3103  'Planned Recordings' list.

DAMN, forgot weekly wipe was on.

Finally got round to watching Sherlock. Have all three on Sky+ and was looking forward to it after hearing the responses on here.

Got to go against the grain though and say I thought it was terrible.
in fact after watching the 1st, I'm deleting the other 2 unwatched.

Elemetary>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Sherlock
I think the stories flow much better, without all the over stylised presentation.

Miller>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Cumberbatch
I like the eccentric, self aware, and sometimes even fragile nature of Miller's character far more than the cocky, self assured Cumberbatch one.
The deductions in passing that Miller's Sherlock makes are carefully thought out and explained. Cumberbatch's Sherlock makes seemingly random deductions and blurts them out as if he's some sort of clairvoyant and we're expected to just accept them.

Lui>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Freeman
even though I wasn't sure about the Joan Watson concept at the very beginning, I think her relationship with Miller is much more believable than between Freeman and Cumberbatch. I really like Martin Freeman, but I think he's doing the best he can with poor material here.

Even Rhys Ifans crushes Mark Gatiss' Mycroft, and I can't usually stand him.

I thought the Moriaty in Elementary was very good too, while the one in Sherlock was irritating and not in the least bit menacing, though that's clearly what he was going for.

Even the police sidekicks in Elementary are a mile better than the ones in Sherlock.

I would accept not as strong as the first series, but you can't genuinely...I mean, surely you don't think...but...obviously you accept that the American version would be....I mean with the cheeky references to the stories and...?

Sorry, I just think Elementary is better written, performed and produced than Sherlock.
I just found it more entertaining on every level.

My guard was up right from the start. What was that crap in the torture room?
"Your wife's having an affair and if you go now you'll catch them in the act" and the torturer downs tools an legs it home.
WTF are you on about?!?

Same with the whole restaurant scene.
Table to table babbling nonsense.

And he goes from knowing nothing to knowing everything simply by pulling the face of a man trying to force out a tricky turd while also suffering from a killer migraine

Meh, I'll pass

Great gif choice though.
I really must start using gifs more in posts. Really hammers home an opinion when you get the right one Smiley

So you started watching it from Season 3, episode 1?  That's the episode you're describing.

That would be like starting to watch Breaking Bad midway through season 4 Cheesy

No, I watched the previous season too.
I seem to remember thinking it was ok,
But not fantastic.

With S3E1 I just found myself checking my phone and longing for it to be over, constantly fighting the urge to shout out "oh, come on, that's stupid" and frequently failing.

Decided another 3 hours of my life could be spent
Far more productively Smiley

Last night on one of the satellite channels they showed A Scandal in Belgravia (the first one from season 2, with Irene Adler) and I was struck by just how much better it was than the most recent Sherlocks.

It was far better paced, less hectic and had a real level of actual character interaction between Sherlock and Adler. Made me realise just how tricksy the most recent Sherlocks were - Moffat's turning them into Doctor Who episodes.

I've ploughed through four seasons of the Sopranos so far in 2014, I can see what all the fuss is about. Hasn't yet upended Breaking Bad or the Wire from my top spots but its in the same ball park for sure.

Pondering Friday Night Lights as my next show after that.
