I think "real world" value will have a lot to do with it. The reason it's hard to tilt after a 10BI downer at 25nl is that you've only lost £250. However, I'm on Alex's side here, because had that come out of a £1k roll, then it would hurt a lot. You start to get used to the pain no doubt, with mechanisms such as "soldiers" or just a bit of perspective or even dissociation.

you basically come to realise with some experience that you either accept and shrug downswings off and maintain focus or you will have to go and get a job somewhere.

Neil is ofc correct though when you lose money through playing like a dick it's really tilting, mainly because you pride yourself on what a heroic self supported man you are and then to go spanner some of it off feels stupid.

I like Jared Tendlers take on accumulated emotion in his book the mental game of poke (worth a buy).
Think this would tie in with your post about losing hurting more at lower stakes if its a case of more buyins/beats.
Rupinder Badi did a session with him its on Blonde somewhere (cant find link).

And i remember a chat i had with Julian a while back his advice was to get in as much volume as possible to iron out
the varience a little.

Enjoy the journey Alex because "when you get there you realize there is no there there"

It's alright spouting on for ages on trivialities, but where's your contribution to the Great Granny debate?

Had a Nan and a Grandma.  They're both dead now, so I don't call them anything.

Granny and Grandad for one side of family, Grandma and Grandpa for the other side...

Although can't help but love the fact my Grandads name is John Basil xxx... what a wicked middle name.
Big fan of my own middle names actually - John George Charles... get in [X]

Steak - definitely Medium Rare with Pepper sauce and its not even close!

With regard to tilt factor, I find that JT's Mental Game of Poker book has been the biggest individual impact on my thought processes and feelings toward the game by a long long way. IMO Its an essential read for anyone who wants to call themselves a 'poker player' - wp JT.  I'm definitely in the camp of making sure you're rolled properly, not having practiced it properly yet though, so when I do, I'll let you all know.

Also think that Rupinder "the ukipt force" Badi is pretty badass!

I know Callum N and he is along with a bunch of PokerFarm people that seem to be the only people I know that use the 'soldier idea'... Its good fun thinking of it that way, esp when you're sending them into a fight and they're outnumbered, outgunned and they still come back with some friends! Cheesy:D

Agree with Alex about it being the losing that effects people the most and not the actual value. Also think that some people are just naturally better equipped to deal with downswings/bad beats/tilt mentally due to temperament. Everybody is different in someway and perhaps have to work really hard on erradicating this kinda stuff out of there game BUT... I know for a fact that some people just find it really easy and take it all in there stride. Trying to avoid brags but I think I'm in the latter camp and always use to find it bemusing how people can be so effected and go on full monkey tilt after losing but after a while I gained some perspective on how everybodys different. To quote "rivertony" if you could put the solution in a bottle and sell it, you'd be a millionaire!
