Keys bubbled the final
SIGH
yup putting the pieces together nicely now.... all of a sudden a new relationship is blooming. a backer that was poohed on at the first moment his employee ever gets ahead in the game becomes friends with the best mate and mentor who as soon as lucky mc luck box of lucksville gets the run of his life then starts telling former mentor that he is clueless.
its killing people not knowing what went on that monday night / tuesday morning but for once in my life i dont actually want to know because i am having more fun reaching my own conclusions
[X] gonna be so devestated to find out its not all alex's fault

Lol ok Jason I'll just let you carry on having your fun.
After a lonngggggg drive down to Cornwall we arrived last night. Were staying in Mevagissey, near St Austell. It's lovely here, though the weather could be better. Were staying in a cool modern place on a hill that overlooks the sea and harbour. Lots of yummy food in stock, comfy beds and plenty to keep us amused. Gonna be a fun week I think.

I agree with Keys, stocks and so forth are a great ALTERNATIVE to keeping non-crucial liquid funds in a bank account, and with good advice are an awesome idea imo, thy are not a failsafe to doing ur money by any stretch.
and agree with Dubai, LOL at Isa's/long term saving accounts. they are a total waste of time,
[ ] You understand ISAs
ur quite right I don't - I don't really understand any of this. tbf was poorly advised and put too much in my only ISA experience (subtle brag, hope we all got it) but i essentially ended up earning a little under 2.5% on my money in 12 months, which was far and away from the untold wealth I was promised my money would generate in this bank account.
obviously I wasn't suggesting seriously that leaving your money in a casino deposit account was a shrewder move than an ISA, but I was using this rather far fetched example as a way to further demonstrate how disappointing I found my ISA experience. There are better options imo.
Better than losing 5% in one thanks to the stock market "dips" in the last couple of days
True but not really a problem if you don't need to sell shares immediately.
Long term investment in most blue chips companies should be fine unless you get really unlucky.
Yh, this is true - about to make a sweeping generalization here - but the main and most common reason people lose money on shares is because they can't afford to ride it out/lose there nerve with it. obviously enron/northern rock are examples of this not being the case lol

This is almost wholly wrong in terms of making a decent return.
If you took a look at the top 30 or so companies worldwide say 25 years ago and compared them with todays you'd get a nasty shock with the concept of 'long term safety in blue chips'.
The only way to make a really decent return is to be ahead of the curve or hitch a ride for a part of the curve.

From my limited knowledge of the subject, I'd advocate what Warren Buffet does: long term value investing.

It's amazing in this day and age the number of intelligent people that still label stocks "risk free safe investments" and still also believe that savings accounts and isas produce a worthwhile income through interest.
Agreed. I've worked if investment banks/
hedge funds for 10 years and I wouldn't put my cash in any stocks at the moment.
The risk/reward isn't worth it after tax is taken into account in the present environment.
Lol, that's really difficult to believe.
Absolutely no idea what your point is as your post was so illuminating, but my view is that the economies of the world are going down the pan due to State incompetence and even if you do call it right then the same State will take a big whack of your upside. No thanks.
The tax angle doesn't apply to a 10k investment (unlikely to anyway) but I just don't think an investment of that size is worth putting in stocks. Not worth the hassle. Not worth the commission.
It was more about someone who works in a hedge fund taking a conservative route and not having any positions, be it long or short.
Being long or short doesn't mean you have to have stocks.
Lol, I'm not sure why you're stating random things? All I was saying was it's difficult to believe someone associated with hedge funds to take a conservative route. That's all. I thought the 'lol' at the beginning of my original post would make that clear, obviously not.

Stayed in Mevagissey a few years ago, really cool place. Have fun!
