Maybe swings is the wrong word. Just losing between 500-1k in one hand is tough to cope with for me. Guess cash game pros don't think of it that way

play a 1k tourny get set over setted, easy?
1k at cash presumably is only xyz bbs and some small proportion of your BR.

Doesn't seem the same in a comp. Maybe I'm just weird

prolly cos often in tourneys you never actually see the money?
i always weirdly find losing 5k online a lot easier on my soul than 2.5k live

Tourney variance obv way more brutal, live is just slow and tilting sometimes. Always > online though

Cash games are gay. Dunno how you cope with the swings. I very rarely play them but sat down at gala last night. Needless to say it didn't go well!!
If u play tournaments and can't deal with the swings in cash games, then u run fucking hot in tournaments
Or run super bad in cash games?
It's the tournament thing met

Yeah same. I hate myself when i spew live, but for some reason it's easier to take online. Guess the mental side of physically seeing your money disappear in live cash games is pretty huge

On the other hand winning £500+ in 1 hand feels great though. (so they tell me

Let me tell you about big Mike.
Big Mike is an Italian American as far I can work out. He sits with about 3k in our 1/2 games, and literally doesn't play a hand. He is without doubt the biggest nit/rock I've ever played with and pointlessly sits ridic deep to cover the table. He flats rivers with nut boats afraid of straight flushes, checks backs turns and rivers with aces (i swear I'm not exaggerating) He also makes a fuss about loads of little things, gets rulings in pointless situations, calls clock on ppl etc. He's also quite large so takes up loads of room and we always have to move around to accommodate him.
Nobodies ever even seen him put more than £200 into a pot, let alone stack him.
This is dragging on a bit so I'll spare the details, where the money goes in is irrelevant, basically I get AJ on AA4J4 vs his A4 and double up through him in a 2.2k pot. Mitch gets the rest off him shortly after flopping the nuts with QJ on AKTxx.
It felt like a group achievement that we'd all be waiting for but thought would never happen.
After months and months, finally, big Mike had been stacked.

Despite that pot I lost for the day
Was another pretty horrible day of grinding. Lost my head again at somepoint during the night, tilted off a few quid. going through a bit of a shit time atm. need for a break but I'm addicted to getting this bonus now dunno why it's only 700 quid it's stupid. want a holiday somewhere sunny.
40 more hours this month then ill have it locked up.
my horse is one of the chip leaders in the blackbelt comp, hoping he'll ship it then i swear i'll snap book a flight to somewhere awesome and chill out cos i'm being an idiot atm. not even getting bad beats, few coolers here and there, but seem to be spewing around and levelling myself in some spots. i play a pretty high variance game imo anyway, so maybe it's just spots and moves that work out most of the time (or have been working out up till now), all going against me, i dunno. not got a clear head on my shoulders atm anyway.
[X] will do better tomorrow

Let
me
tell you about big Mike.
[ x ] Big Mike is an Italian American
[ x ] He sits with about 3k in our 1/2 games, and literally doesn't play a hand.
With this information in mind, what would you do with AJo on a AA4 board vs this man, when he has raised a £200 bet in a 3 way pot to £600 and you are playing £800.
Let's think what hands he could possibly have.....
[ x ]
[ x ]
[ ]
[ ]
[ ] Any other hand
IMO, theres only one thing to it....
and im sure you will agree,
ALL IN
Oh hai dere jack ball on the turn.
Alex on auto un-tilt.
