In that example Alex a good thing to do is to chk a range of value hands on the turn, hands like KK and AA are good ones to chose, then you can c/r the river for value if it goes cchk/chk and showing down AA in a chk/chk chk/chk spot is not bad for your range at all as it stops the number of profitable floats they can make. Also seriously tighten up your 3bets from the blinds and then your range OTF/OTT is much stronger

Just had a ridic fun session on bwin. Only played 200 hands, but it was so fun. I was playing across 4table IP to the same two regs on each table. Had such a ridic aggro dynamic with both of them it was really interesting / fun. My timing was sooo good (pretty sure this was mostly luck, but I was exploiting their stats and had a really good feel to how they were thinking and what spots I thought they'd be light in etc). I must've got about 6 5bet bluffs through and a couple of cold , as well as countless 3bets. My non showdown winnings were about 300$ for 200hands which is insane.

I get the feeling I need to slowdown, or I'm just gonna get picked off. Next time I'm gonna have it I tell myself. Then I get on the button and I can feel it's gonna kick off now Cheesy One of the regs opens the hijack, I 3b, then the bb cold the bb. Hmmm, easy fold, but I look at his stats and he has a 4b of 4.8% which is ridic high, and my 3b stats are through the roof for this session so imagine he's picked up on that. Felt I was so in the zone this morning that I was pretty sure he was light here enough to make shoving profitable. I have a blocker and straight flush potential if wrong also Tongue

So I shove and he goes into the tank. Which 95% of the time means he's folding - from what I've seen over the last month is ppl 4b to snap or fold. When they fold they take their time to give off the impression they weren't bluffing, so when he goes into the tank - I'm fistpumping that another 5b has got through. Then with like two seconds to go, he calls!

With !!  arggh so owned!

Flop

nothing wrong or illegal with it.

If you dont buy hh's then you're at a disadvantage

Rather like in, say, football, "if you don't cheat then you're at a disadvantage".....?

No Tikay.

If you have played football you will know there are 22 players on the pitch trying to gain an edge for 90 mins against their opponents using the referee to gain advantages, appealing for throw ins and free kicks and hundreds of other things that they know is not rightly theirs or there teams. whether we like it or not its part of the game. Same with online poker, its the online poker sites that are inviting data mining/hand histories by the way they are set up. Webmasters could easily set poker sites up which do not allow data mining but it would be less profitable for them so they don't.The difference in attitude comes down to whether you want to avoid relegation and be a mid table team, or whether you want to be the best & most successful at what you do. How much do you want it? If you want to be among the best online players you HAVE to have huge amount of hand histories against current opponents & opponents you are yet to meet.

Some sites - I could deffo name one - do NOT allow data mining, & you may be absolutely, 100% assured, it does NOT affect their profitability. Well, not negatively......

poker encore?

2nd Encore dig/rub in 2 days. Gonna have to load you up into Thai Billy's boot and get him to drive you into the middle of the Udon and dump you there.

As it goes, I don't use a HUD and I've obv never bought any hand histories.

Do I like them? No.

Do I wish they didn't exist? Yes.

Do I have a problem with anyone using them? No.

I don't see it as cheating and everyone is just looking to make themselves more profitable, which just seems to make good sense.

Question to Longy who questioned it - do you use OPR / PTR / Sharkscope to search some of your opponents? Why is that any better? Why should you know whether they win or lose and how much?

Alex,

Are you finding online is a totally different beast to live poker?   Do you think being a good live player as you are means you can transfer that online or will it take a lot of work to perfect your online game?

online poker and live poker are different games, with different TYPES of skillsets required for each one and different nuances for each, all of which takes time, effort and experience to understand and master.

It is however still poker, and being good at poker should be enough to make a suitable transition between the two imo Alex will do completely fine

Put in really decent volume yesterday (about 1800 hands) but lost about 500 for the day. Didn't play very well, spewed off in a couple of spots and I'm starting to find some leaks in a few spots that I'm not sure what to do about. Put up 4 or 5 HHs on the PHA and got a pretty hard time (which is what I wanted). Not sure where to go from here though.

It's the concept of balance that I'm finding a bit tricky. In some spots it's hard not to be super unbalanced. But I kept getting the feeling yesterday that the regs had worked out how unbalanced I was in these spots and were playing perfectly. I'm talking about this common scenario. Reg raises the CO, I 3b from the blinds. I do this a lot, probably too much. They call. 993r I bet they call. 2 on the turn. In this case, I usually give up on all my bluffs and barrel my value hands. So it's super profitable for the reg to float the flop with any two then fold the turn if I bet again, or bet the turn if I check.

What can I do about this?

a) check the turn with more value hands. big problem with that is you give them the chance to check back all their medium pairs and medium strength showdown hands so missing a street of value.

b) barrel the turn and river more. problem - bad cards to barrel, we're just mashing buttons really and regs can easily just call us down with 77 and be correct most of the time.

c) 3b less oop so I don't get in these situations. Probably a good idea. That would mean flatting more often with big hands oop - don't really like doing but it's something I could experiment with.

d) more options would be nice

I've always wondered about this, since I started playing 1/2 at dtd with regs. spots where you both know that an offsuit 2 is a bad card to barrel, so it just becomes a levelling war and yr either super unbalanced and exploitable, or your just barrelling off too much. Hmmm....

You can c/r stuff toooooooooooooo

I have never used PTR. Sharkscope and OPR (for free) I do use but not in game as I believe that is against Stars t&c's.

I certainly don't think they should be allowed but I do use them as it would be handicapping myself not to. I least with these 2 players have the option to hide their stats.

I am not sure if you missed it in my posts but I deliberately made the point that I have used various legal software to gain/keep up with my online opponents and admit that I have probably blurred my ethical boundaries by doing so.

I started this diary 365 days ago, I'm sure you've all been wondering, worrying, probably, maybe its even kept you awake a couple times - Alex has never written about his birthday. Surely it must've occurred once in the past year!?

Today was the day and depsite including a 3 hour traffic jam, 3 hours on public transport and a funeral - it was a good day. The funeral was for my great aunt - I barely knew her - but was a nice occasion and good to catch up with some long lost family. The trek to and from manchester was a massive ballache, however.

The evening was great though, we met up at rileys and played darts for an hour (I'm totally useless but won at a variant called "killer" where you each get a number and 6 lives and you have to get other peoples numbers to knock them out - everyone ganged up on Mitch and sort of forgot about me and I shipped it by accident basically). But it was a good laugh despite my embarrassing performance.

We ate in Mem Saab, an posh curryhouse in the city centre. Was really tasty but I always fill up on the popadoms and starters and can never finish a main which is really annoying. Then the bill came. Ged suggested since it was my birthday I should be exempt from the flip. Great idea Ged, thanks! Everyone else sure was keen. Tom High wasn't exempt from his bday flip last month blah blah so Mitch suggested since its a new year, we all be exempt from our own bday flips starting from now. Great idea Mitch, I'm sure his motives were totally selfless and he didn't have one eye on his birthday meal which is in a weeks time!

Anyway, that idea falls through and I ended up sigh flicking in my card. First out boom! justice! We get down to heads up and it's Keys and Stato, the two people opposed to me being exempt the most. Double justice! Stato loses and we all leave in high spirits to go to for a few drinks in Saltwater. Really fun night.

Tomorrow I'm off to Newcastle for a few days to see Hannah and her family, will be nice, haven't seen her for a couple of week and gotta log some hours with her family which I've been slacking on recently! Will mean missing the new 500 deepstack Sad Sad but nevermind, looking forward to it.
