I just hope you aren't going to be using someone else's idea without including or crediting them, that's all I hope.

Good luck with the venture...

Using someone else's idea is fine, especially if they don't have the drive to do it themselves.. Best business people in the world steal....

All IT projects follow 5 simple rules.
1) They cost a lot more than any original quotes.
2)They always take far longer than original estimates.
3) They never do everything that was required by the sponsor.
4) They require constant upgrades
5) They eat money.

These rules are the same for small start ups to the big projects such as the National Health Service.

Whatever the project, these rules apply.Never want to rain on anyone's parade or stifle creativity and endeavor but having been involved in a couple of start ups and seen how some projects develop did not want you to pour your money into a potential black hole.

Other obvious things to think about are usp of product, size of market,is it scaleable, can you make money etc etc etc.

Good Luck.

Good Luck.

Spot on Ian - ive been involved in a few and couldnt agree more

It actually goes to show that there is a huge development required in the IT field. In most of my experieces it has been due to a lack of IT peoples ability to fully understand the concept they are bring asked to provide and being far too happy to interpret client instructions rather than produce what they have been asked.

For some reason we seem to accept the "its now going to cost more and take longer" probably due to a lack of our own understanding of the process

heres my business knowledge (taken from GCSE business studies and Dragons den)

Make sure if your idea is good somebody cant just come in and rip it off/do it better - i.e. try to create some barriers to entry for competitiors, always get a patent (where applicable), always get the .com (.co.uk not anywhere near as good), never be the first to mention a price in a negotiation, turnover is vanity profit is sanity.

There you go that's about all you need to know i reckon - start ploughing the £'s in

Going through some old photos, this is me with "The Lads" from an ORGAN course I was on. Cool defined.
