I will now be going over these that I made a year ago and see how we've done....

Nice, that links in well with a couple of my new years resolutions...

Goals for 2012

Poker

•   Game select better. Play online during the week if the DTD games are bad.
•   20k hands a month online. Try and win at least at 5bb/100. Move up to 400NL+
•   Conquer more of the mental side of the game – don’t let results affect my mood as much.
•   Work really hard outside of the game. Read more blogs, articles, watch training videos.
•   Tournaments – be more focussed in the early levels. Don’t use iPad so much. Prepare better by getting enough sleep beforehand.
•   More skype sessions with K&K.
•   Generally don’t let the success of this year induce any unjustified arrogance or feeling of entitlement.
•   £40k year would be great.

Real Life

•   Gym – join and go. 2 or 3 times a week minimum.
•   Cook more. More regular shops so we have ingredients.
•   Maybe buy a car.
•   Organise a cleaner for the house. If not, keep the house cleaner for Hannah.
•   Maybe find a nicer place to live just outside of Nottingham.
•   Keep Holly alive and well.
•   Continue blogging, hopefully expand into some other area, media/journalism etc within poker.

The Poker Goals: Overall pretty happy I've stuck to these well.

Quote
Game select better. Play online during the week if the DTD games are bad.

Done. Very successful. Succeeded in playing in much more profitable games midweek and losing lots of money in them Cheesy

Quote
20k hands a month online. Try and win at least at 5bb/100. Move up to 400NL+

This didn't last long since I replaced cash with mtts, so not too fussed about that because I've put in decent volume online and I think I've become profitable or more profitable in some of the tougher stars comps where I was -EV before, which is the general aim of this resolution.

Quote
Conquer more of the mental side of the game – don’t let results affect my mood as much.

An ongoing battle, definitely way better than I was before. Anybody much better than me at this I consider an emotionless robot Cheesy

Quote
Work really hard outside of the game. Read more blogs, articles, watch training videos.

Basically a fail. I do training and coaching sessions whenever they happen and am still living and breathing the game talking to housemates and friends all the time. Doing HH reviews with the stable loads which helps my game too. Got plans in this area for next year.

Quote
Tournaments – be more focussed in the early levels. Don’t use iPad so much. Prepare better by getting enough sleep beforehand

Excellent improvement. Never use ipad, and only surf blonde and facebook on my phone when I have a soft table and have good reads on everyone so don't need to pay as much attention.

Quote
More skype sessions with K&K.

Did when I was in the stable

Quote
Generally don’t let the success of this year induce any unjustified arrogance or feeling of entitlement.

I believe I have stuck to this. I feel I am entitled to have a 5 figure cash in an online tournament soon though Cheesy I also feel I am entitled to a year without cashing a live tournament though Cheesy

Quote
  £40k year would be great.

Gym - total fail. Will repeat the exact same resolution for next year. Wanna earn some money first cos it's bloody expensive.
Cook - total fail haha. Have probably cooked once this year, that was for valentines day.
Bought a car, absolutely love it. Shame about the traffic bollard Sad
Cleaner - yes, she is great. Works really hard, doesn't steal, and she bought us a christmas present and card. Spent Xmas day totally alone this year because all her family is in Bulgaria Sad Got a soft spot for her now, going to help her with her english and improve her advert on gumtree so she gets more business I hope!
Find a place to live - yup, it's perfect.
Holly - alive and well - check! Living at my Dads and loving the freedom, seems very happy.
Blog has gone well, still enjoying it, we were at page 407 this time last year, so we've got just over the same volume again this year

Overall - not bad actually! Thought i was gonna fail more of the real life stuff tbh. Will do 2013 resolutions at some point over the next few days.

Are you happy with your decision to play online mtts instead of online cash? What was the reason for this? Do you think you have a better hourly playing them than at 400nl which was your original goal?

With that many, you are right to think of them as goals (aspirations) rather than resolutions (commitments).

Well done on ticking so many off in 2012.

Well done Alex, I'm struggling to recall many who are brave enough to publically re-visit resolutions we made at the start of the year.

Yeh, firstly I got pretty bored of online cash. I found anything above 100nl everyone was pretty solid and any edge I might have would be small. It was also boring, and I could never put in long sessions or have the motivation to keep grinding after a downswing, I just wanted to do something else all the time. This was my problem with all forms of online poker tbh, I never enjoyed it enough to stick with one format for longer than a month.

Until I started playing MTTs, which I love and hate, but I still wake up every morning with a hunger to play, even after basically 10months without a score ($8k is my biggest "bink") and a number of $10k downswings and the current $20k one.

I game select really well, playing in some really great value soft tournaments, and yeh I'm sure my long term hourly is higher than it would be playing 400nl, not least because I can't see me being +EV in many 400nl games! The variance in large field MTTs is just so ridiculous!

Mum's taking us to London today to see the west end show Cabaret which has only been running a couple of months. The lead guy is Will Young and lead girl is Michelle Ryan, best known for being (not just extremely hot) 'Zoe' in eastenders, the daughter from the infamous "you ain't my motha" "yes I am" scene! Looking forward to it!

Cool thanks for detailed reply Smiley I think it is important to do what you enjoy most, but I believe if you put in the right amount of time and effort , you would def learn how to beat 100nl+ and may have a different view on things. F mtt variance imo.

Saw it in Notts. Never a Will Young fan in the past but he is absolutely amazing in this.
