Unfortunately, bar some miracle today, September will go down in the books as my biggest ever losing month - not a nice record to break. The previous one was the now infamous November 2012. I'm not going to say it's doesn't seem real or it's been a joke, as to be honest, it's not been, I've just ran quite bad in all areas at once, which probably should have happened more often than it has over the past 3 years.

So it's been a hit, and travelling to Sweden, Vegas, Ireland, Scotland, Italy, Spain and Estonia in the last three months and not really winning in July and August has meant the roll has been battered a bit. Tons of big tournaments and festivals that have all gone badly too (20 live tournaments in a row without a cash, catching Thigh's record!) so the loss column has been getting plenty of ink. Basically I'm not in the best shape for playing the stakes I want, so I'm going to get backed again.

I've been on my own for 18 months and had my ups and downs and it's got it's pros and cons of course compared to being backed. I've grinded back from this sort of roll before but for a variety of reasons I've decided not to do that this time and get staked instead. I know many people will consider this a mistake but I have good reasons.

I know a lot of people don't blog about this sort of thing, as obv it's more baller to pretend you've got the lot and play everything on your own dime, but it's important for me to keep this an honest account, and not worry what people think. I'll still be playing cash games on my own it's just tournaments are completely mental and I can't take another month like this! Hoping for some early success today in this new era...

Seems very sensible to me. Takes real maturity not to be influenced by what others may or may not think. If poker was my career I would certainly think being staked for a % in tournaments is a sensible way to be able to play maybe higher value comps without taking 100% of the expense etc. In any performance related career you have to be continually adjusting, recalibrating, reviewing and analysing. Good luck .

If you want to grind tournaments I think it's a very smart idea. They are just so so so fucking brutal mate.

Thing is they are that brutal that 3 on ths may Go down the line and depending on your plume you could be in 20 (seems right?) makeup and feel like its too much f a grind and not enjoy playing them.

Playing a tournament where first place gets you no dollars is quite demoralizing.

This is actually kind of a situation I'm in now and if I could go back I would definitely not get staked.

But it's just such a difficult decision and either way there's pros and cons, I think especially with your sata lite mentality it's going to be a big bonus and would really emphasize that especially when staked playing a lot of satalites is really important.

Good luck either way. First day today? Are you disclosing which stakes its for?

First day today yup, and already grinding 20e satellites Cool

I don't think much need to disclose specific stakes, but it's pretty similar to what I've been playing.

So no winning start, but saved a ton of $ by run good in satellites, which really helps limit the damage.

Feel much better about it than I would have felt not being backed, it really eases the pressure and definitely feels like the right choice. I think it'll help me grind more also.

There's a good way to limit the possibility of getting in hopeless makeup situations that Keith thought of. If MU goes above £20k, halve the stakes until you get it under £20k again. That'll hopefully keep things in check, as I would find it demoralizing being in $50k MU.

Found some incred sporcle lyric quizzes, which me stato and thigh nailed, bossing classics from Les Mis to Lion King, from Queen to Outkast. Was great banter.

And then of course there was the breaking bad finale. I don't think it counts as a spoiler to say it was amazing.

Sigh... Please guys, would you mind discussing breaking bad on the other thread?

I know you're not giving the ending away, but I don't want to read discussions about any aspect of it. Especially not how perfect the ending was.

Pretty please.....
