Are you still excited to take shots now? I sometimes find myself passing on reasonable games I might have sat in before, just to lower the variance a bit. Part of it might be confidence in the game or something like that but I do wonder if it's just getting old. I'll fb you about swaps in barca. Feel a bit robbed about last year :p Hopefully get a dinner or something in next week?

Yes I am definitely still excited to take shots. I do know what you mean though but I think because I play so much live cash with a mix of tournaments that I don't feel the variance like you do, so I embrace a big game or a shot at a tournament or two because I don't go through the MTT swings that you do.

I take more shots now than I used to I think. Someone asked me once, in reference to the best cash game I play, what is the most you are prepared to lose in that game in one night?", and when I thought about it honestly, I would be prepared to lose all but £10k of my roll maybe! So if that's true, then why do I sell pieces for good games? I'm cutting down on that a lot now and will have 100% of myself for almost all cash games now.

I'm fully prepared to rebuild again from that level, think I've done it twice before, even from lower and it's not even that bad.

Meh, think you're overlooking a few things here.

If good/big/great games are coming along often then you don't want to be rebuilding and missing those games completely. Better to sell a piece so that if you do run really bad you're at least able to try and realise some of that EV!

That's true. The things is the type of game im talking about is really VERY hard to come by. Each situation on its own merit of course but id be happy punting pretty massive if it was worth it.

Do you sell action for cash sessions too then?  I assume it will just get really messy if some cash sessions are included and others aren't?  If you have an arrangement where you only sell if it is 5/10 up, but not when it is really juicy.  I can't see how a backer would be happy.  I guess I must be misunderstanding what you are saying.

@Doobs, it's just like selling pieces for bigger tournaments and not for smaller ones. Nobody expects me to sell for a DTD deepstack but would expect me to sell for a 10k. Same in cash games, I don't sell for 5/10 games but might sell for a bigger game. Or about taking shots, I think investors would understand me wanting to punt the WSOP main on my own for example but sell in a 10k EPT hiroller.

As long as the later is a good investment opportunity for them, why would they mind? Of course they'd like the even better investment opportunity but it's not an opportunity if the player doesn't want it to be!

Obviously for long term deals it's different, but we're talking about one off pieces. Have probably sold for only 5 or 6 cash sessions life time.

Note I think key difference between "backers" and "investors"

Was great to see you at UKPC Alex, & I hope Barca goes well.

Thanks Boss.

As you know I've played in cardrooms and casinos all round the world, probably in over 20 (yes!) different countries and not only is DTD my favourite place to play but if you took my top 20 best nights in poker (in terms of fun) then probably 15 of them at least were in DTD.

I really like living in London and coming up to DTD for all the festivals, because then I get the best bits of it and every night there is great.

It was a pretty tough decision to miss the main and I regret it in many ways. But this estrella 1k got over 3 thousands runners! 3392 to be precise. THREE THOUSAND! The biggest freezeout in pokerstars history.

I flew in and registered at 130pm and was 181st on the alternate list. Went for some Tapas, walked around my old neighbourhood and took my seat at around 415, with 25k at 200/400 there wasn't much room for manoeuvre.

I lost two pots and folded for a level or two. Was on break with 10k going back to 500/1k and broke off from a conversation to rush back so as not to miss a hand, obviously busted that very hand!

So it was very much not "worth it"! Had a good night out though and Victoria came out today and played the €300 barcelona cup - another ridiculous tournament - think it got over €50k ftw last year! She doubled up to a nice stack but then got coolered immediately and was crippled. She's back on the grind today playing the ladies event, want her to do well so bad!

Estrella hiroller for me tomorrow.

- Victoria getting immediately coolered and then subsequently being crippled. (If you feel you can capture this in just one pic, fine, though 2 are expected)

- Victoria back on the grind playing the ladies event today.

- A pic of you showing that you want her to do well so bad.

Morning Alex,

A small side story, which you might just enjoy.

The big PLO game was running last night in Trickett's Room. Players included Keith Johnson, Rob Yong, & Stacy (?) Coore. (The son, not the Dad).

Keith had, I believe, 4 bet pre, & they (Keith, Rob & Stacy) saw this flop 3 way. There is £700 in the middle. The suits may not be spot on, but there were 2 diamonds.

  Two Diamonds three diamonds

Keith bets £500.

Call, call.

Turn is another deuce. Can't recall the suit, but it was not relevant.

Two Diamonds three diamonds two spades

Keith pots it. (£2,300 ish).

Stacy calls, Rob sigh folds the wheel & flush draw.

River is another 3.

Two Diamonds three diamonds two spades three clubs

Keith puts his last £500 or so in, Stacy calls. It's about a £7,000 pot, of which £700+ was in pre, 3 way.

The moment the Stacy called, Keith quickly announces "quad threes".

And he shows his hand.....

It's all about starting hand ranges, this game.

Anyway, pardon the derail, but it did strike me as an interesting hand.

Good luck in Barca, do a Keith.

I explained this to you at the time  Tikay! I was pretending to have big cards when I actually had little cards. Then when the little cards come boom! It's like the Kansas City shuffle

Partied more in the first three days of Barca than I did in the whole of Vegas! Such a good night last night. Morale was high after binking an EPT seat in the 1075 sat esp after being allin for 3bbs utg with Q2o, getting isod by AQ, re isod by JJ which makes AQ fold, Q high flop. Then won TT vs KK despite K on turn, river 4 flush.

Every tournament here is just amazing. All events smashing records, over 1000 for the 2.2k yesterday, even last nights turbo - a 1k hyper turbo bounty got over 500!

Am on the fence about the 10k, it'll be an amazing field, I really wanna play but have some things in UK to get back for, also haven't sold nearly enough yet, lmk if interested in a big piece (£400/5%).

The night out after was amazing though. All the usual suspects to start with, JP Kelly, Craig, Jake, Grafton, plus some niche add-ons like Elizabeth Hille, Gaelle Garcia Diaz (Man Utds Fellani's girlfriend!), Matt Moss (English, grinds HS in macau), Sara Chaka (Miss Finland), Paul Newey. Bumped into Ludo, Scott, some guys from EDC like Rory, Was so good.

Last 4 standing at 6am was Me, Victoria, Jake and JP dancing the night away by the beach, loving life.

Needless to say, I'm playing day 1b, tomorrow!
