Have you checked to see if your other half is still around, it looks like Ben Stokes might have made off with her  Cheesy

why do you think Leicester will be more than 27 points worse than last season?

I think you are completely wrong. (no surprise there, everyone cries)

fwiw i expect something north of 60 points and top 10.

Might adjust that a little lower if Mahrez leaves before the end of August

It's nothing personal Tighty, just business!

Amazing thing is, that Ironside also thinks Southampton will be 10 points offer better than the spreads. Arrboy thinks Stoke the same. Even Ralph has backed Arsenal vs Chelsea with me. It's almost as if...no wait, we're all purely rational gamblers.

I've left Liverpool alone this year.

its not personal for me either, its unemotional

if i thought leicester would undershoot the mid 50s enough to go under, i would agree with you

i think its your riskiest position with lots of per point downside if  they aren't 27 points/9 wins worse than last year which is what the spread implies.

that said, i like some of the other positions

Europe is going to have a massive impact both emotionally and physically on Leicester.  I would be a seller as well.

I want and hope Leicester do well.  But already losing Kante is massive and then the possibility that Mahrez goes and you lose a chunk of goals and creativity.

Re tax rates, national insurance is a regressive tax... it reduces from 12% (for employees, 9% if self employed) to 2 % once the Upper Earnings Limit (circa £43k gross income) is exceeded; so it's more like 42% for higher rate taxpayers (£43-150k) and 47% for additional rate taxpayers (earnings > £150k).

True.   On the fliip side It's also 62% marginal rate for salaries between 100k and 120k as they nick your personal allowance.

And on the other flip side the taper on Universal Credit for the poorest as they earn more is 65%.

The taper for means tested benefits was 100 percent (ie lose a point for every pound you make in earnings). Isn't 65 percent under universal credit better in that respect?  Do you have a worked example as to why you think this is bad?

It used to be 80% under the old system. Just pointing out that 62% marginal tax on 100k plus incomes is less of a hardship .

Sorry for the derail Alex Smiley

Last post from me as I agree this is a massive derail of the diary. I guess you make a fair point if you consider losing benefits when you get back to work as a tax.  I was on JSA for a few months this year before getting a new job.  Using your argument we can say that when I had to give up the JSA I am paying 100% tax on the first £280 I earn per month.  Surely any tolerant Government would let me keep my JSA to prevent this outrage!  Smiley

3) Taxes, so huge not to get taxed! In the UK people earning over £32k get taxed 40%! Absurd to pay nothing!

There are benefits to being taxed and paying NI of course which the poker players don't get.

For one we often have discussions on here about trying to get loans or mortgages. It's not rare for a poker player to have to pay a year of rent up front. Most will have pretty shocking credit ratings because they have no credit history.

Is this something you've had problems with yet? Will you be renting forever or would you like to buy a house? Obviously if you can't get a mortgage how much of your bankroll would you invest to get a house thus meaning you maybe can't play the bigger games?

Any idea what your credit score is? If not can we have a competition to see if we can guess before you check it online?

On the NI side what about when you retire? Do you have any thoughts at the moment for retirement? Not necessarily financial but just an age at which you might quit playing poker for a living and turn it in to a hobby?

I remember a few years ago you bought some shares, Tesco was one?

Did you keep up your investing?

What was the best investment and which is the worst?

@Matt, yeh not being able to get a mortgage has to be the most annoying thing about playing poker - definitely should've made the list. I'm still saving to buy a house or flat, but it's taking a while with house prices in London and having all sorts of setbacks such as not winning $8m in the main this year. Buying a house is  no1 financial goal pretty much though.

Never checked my credit score, sure you can guess at it, don't mind checking so long as it's not a tedious process.

No thoughts about retirement. Hope I've won and saved up enough I guess / Victoria's contributions help. Long way away that though! Should I stick with poker for all those years, I Imagine it won't be a retirement more like a cutting down and like you say keeping it as a hobby.

@matt, cutting down my stakes is a big no though, definitely not worth it financially to buy a house.

Yes I've kept investing, adding to my portfolio when I'm doing well etc. Not sure I ever had Tesco tbh, certainly don't now.

Best: Associated British Foods is up 137%
Worst: Standard Chartered down 56% and the big oil companies Rio Tinto, BHP are down a fair amount of course too.
