I once played a night of poker with Steve Davies. Stu had phoned me earlier in the day to say that there was a DC game running, and would I like to play. At the time, I was sat in my room in uni with my buddy Adrian, complaining about the amount of work we had to do and the lack of time we had to do it. Anyway, didn't even mention this to Stu, just snap got in the car and turned up at Dusk half an hour later. Few hours in "Seat available on Dealer's Choice for Steve Davies", and he sat down on my direct left. Proceeded to tell the whole table how he had no idea what he was doing or what the games were, chose Stud Hi/Lo on his first round and Irish on his second, but we weren't having any of it. He sharked the shit out of me in a Padooki pot when I discovered how hard it was to bluff a guy with a lot of money and a made 10. Anyway, thoroughly nice guy, spent a long time chatting with him after that hand. Turned out he wasn't half bad at poker, and was a very normal sorta guy, just a bit balla.

My Uncle played guitar in a band in the 60's with Jim Lea, the bassist and principle song writer from Slade. He was in both bands at the same time (although Slade was called The 'N Betweens at the time) and wanted to go pro.
He discussed it with my uncles band first, but they all had good jobs at the time and weren't interested.
Slade went pro instead, and the rest, as they say, is history.

It wasn't till a few years ago that my uncle told my dad, who also played guitar, that when Dave originally knocked on the door, it was my dad he was looking to be in the band Smiley

Loved that programme.

I wonder why it's never been repeated?

Coincidentally I too wondered that recently.

It is available on DVD  http://www.amazon.co.uk/Big-Deal-Complete-BBC-Series/dp/B000FL79JY

When 9 or 10, wrote to Peter Taylor, then boss of Southend United, asking if we could ask him a few questions for a school paper. Got a personal letter back inviting me and my mate to training and to interview him at Roots Hall. Spent an hour with us, showed us around, took us onto the pitch to meet Ronnie Whelan, Chris Powell, Simon Royce. Even apologised for turning the air blue when he rocked up at training. Really nice guy, glad he got the one game shot as England manager.

Got sacked 3 days later. Never wrote the article.

Other than that, went to school with Joe Thomas (Simon) of Inbetweeners fame.

Got called a fat f**ker by Julian Dicks at a golf driving range.

Shouted drunken abuse at Will Mellor for not having a photo with us.

With the rest of the economy plebs, waited behind Pascal Perrault for Vegas immigration. Times must've been hard.

Sold a iPhone to Simon Peggs dad, Simon then calls my shop to have a go at me for selling said phone to his "old fart" of a dad (his words) then proceeded to chat to me on the phone for about 25mins. Cool guy. Ended the call with "your still a wanker, have a good day!"

Lily Allen also bought a £10 Vodaphone top up from me.

Went to uni, and was "close" to BB winner Rach Rice.

Once lost to Judd trump in a snooker comp. he was 8 or 9 and stood on a box.

I managed to get myself on national news, Sky Sports news, and in several of the national newspapers the other week........

David Cameron came to our work and gave us the big speech because of the local by-election.

There I am, plain as day in all of the main pictures!

Didn't have the balls to try and ruin him by asking a question.  Anyway, that's the closest I'll get to being famous.
