Povetkin vs Takam is on just now and looks a decent bout.
Open scoring had it all square after 8, Povetkin scored a knock down in the 9th and sparked him clean out in the 10th. Gotta say the current crop of heavyweights look miles behind big old Vlad. |

See with the WBC open scoring like in the Martin Murray fight, is there any scenario where open scoring does not offer a noticeable advantage to the pre fight favourite?
Canelo was able to coast the final 4 rounds against Trout.
Povetkin had to turn it up with the scores all square after 8.
Murray had the comfort of knowing exactly where he stood incase the fight were to be stopped due to a cut.

Surely he has to call time on his career now? I know he hasn't been involved in any wars, and so won't have the issue of the accumulation of punches threatening his health, but at that age and now he is starting to get hit, he surely risks getting hurt?
He's got enough money, he's proved he's been a great boxer. Surely it's all downhill from now? Maybe he wants to win a title aged fifty before he retires?

Think it's always been understood that Vitali was the better fighter. Could be wrong tho! (Just what I've heard not my own opinion) |

For me Vitali. Hes a warrior who apart from a serous shoulder injury and a cut stoppage to Lennox (when he was ahead on the cards) has always been ahead of the rest. However it's not that simple. Wladamir has a much more classical style, reminds me of Lennox a lot. What Steward did with him after Corrie Sanders is impressive. Vitali is a much more unorthodox awkward fighter with less technique. In the last two years Wlad's has been far more impressive beating guys by miles. Talented boxers cannot get near him. But I think Wlad's chin is more suspect (he's not been hit in a loooooong time) and I'm not sure he has the heart for a war. He beats everyone so comfortably we'll probably never know. IMHO both underrated and able to compete in other eras. |
