The Design work needs more love imo, watercolourSunset and zeroTech my favs att. Although i am sure i have seen something very similiar to 'checkmate' before, can't quite put my finger on it..
Couple of questions if i can.
Do you start your pieces on a blank canvass or is it more canabalised work?
How long have you been doing this type of stuff?
I use PS CS5 occasionally for my work but nothing anywhere near on this scale. What would you suggest a PS wannabe such as myself do to get on the right track?
Thank you Milligan.

Always blank canvas. 2000x1600 with 72dpi and transparent background to be precise. 300dpi for printwork.
I used to play around with Photoshop 7 on my parents' computer back when I was 17 or something. I used to go out for a few bowls and come back with red eyes and click some buttons until I found something that looked pretty trippy. Inadvertently, this made me very familiar with various filter techniques on Photoshop. I think I better method, looking back, would probably just have been to find some tutorials online... But if you're talking about time actually spent properly learning and making "art" then probably in the region of two years.
As for "getting on the right track," though I still consider myself a bit of a beginner myself as I get deeper into the world of design, I'd recommend reading a few basic tutorials to familiarise yourself with all your tools. This includes spending a week tearing your hair out trying to figure out the pen tool, as frustrating as it is, it's invaluable. Also, just use some nice fonts and textures; you don't have to actually say anything as long as it looks good. Hope that wasn't too condescending, I'm not used to people asking me for stuff.

Do you have any of your work uploaded anywhere?
