Winning!

I know this diary is loads better when I'm losing and complaining, so I'll say this much: I lost the Nando's flip versus Gary and PeeJay. Thought this might be the end of the 2012 heater. Sad

Now I'll post these two hands:

Playing 1/2 at Dusk, really juicy table, lots of chips. I sat down with £400, about three orbits in get in the cutoff with the straddle on. I make it £15, the small blind and the straddle call. The flop is a meagre , checked to me I bet £32 and they both call. The turn is the , yum yum. Checked to me again I bet £89, just the small blind calls. I remember from dealing to this guy that he doesn't like to fold much, but I'd never had a chance to put it into practice before, so when the falls on the river and he checks, I just move the lot in for what I think was £280. He snaps my arm off. No idea what he had. Beautiful start to the evening.

I won a few pots without showdown throughout the course of the night, then was on the right side of a cooler. The guy to my right opens to £7, I call with , the blinds call and we go four ways to a flop of two spades. What a life. It gets checked to me I bet £15, the small blind calls and the other two pass. The turn is a which I think might give him a pair alongside his flush draw a lot, so we bet again, £34 this time. He makes it £85 with £120 or so behind. Not really sure why I didn't stick it in here; if he thinks I have a draw he'll call it off with a pair, and if he's drawing he'll fold non-spade rivers. It just felt like he was definitely shoving the river with his bet sizing, so I flat and he jams the brick river. I call and he insta-tables the . Hope that happens more often.

Finished the night winning £1,100 and feeling like, on the rare occasions I didn't just have the nuts in a perfect spot, I played and read the game really well. Definitely going to be playing the £1/2 more often to iron out some variance, wouldn't be fair to just keep getting the lot. Game selection is still important though, so might just continue to grind the 50/1 during the week unless something special happens. Going to get an earlyish start tomorrow, so I'm off to bed to dream about boobs quads. Peace.

February off to a good start!

I was speaking with jakally part way through my session, he asked if I was losing and fistpumped when I confirmed it. Apparently he was willing me to lose. It seems he is my boomswitch manager. Perhaps I will have to bribe him with food. I need to run good Neil, stop it with the negative psi. That is all.

I think jakally ended up getting distracted in what was initially a pretty shallow £1/2 game, but one that didn't take long to get deep. I was tanking a seat in that, but there was always some fishbowl in the 50/1 games sat with about £500 in chips and £0 in equity. I was sat to the left of Shola (who I recently found out has about twenty middle names, most of which she can recite by heart) and Paul England (who used to be a dealer at Alea; it's not recent knowledge that this man butchers just about every hand he plays). At first, the token nit in seat one was Jimmy, but he left because he was locking up one of my cards flipped when I folded and revealed the which meant he couldn't limp in with the invaluable . The value at the table was sat about £500 deep and kept donk leading every board for 3*pot; I don't know if this was genius or terrible. I decided that my default strategy here was "set-the-tarp." Unfortunately it turns out that the tarp is hard to set when it's not January and you're not picking up hands for funsies. Then I heard her say, "excuse me dealer, could you pass me that chip tray?" My heart sank. Sad

The token nit in seat one was replaced and we got Richard, who is at least a legend between playing hands. The fish was replaced by some guy that I've never really played with before, but someone that I remember dealing to. His face looks like that of an aquatic mole, and his ability to play cards probably doesn't deviate all that much from the ability of said species. Super friendly guy, though, and even though I was trying to get him to needle me when I knew he was bluffing with better, he kept smiling and saying, "you know I can't bluff." Much as I tried, I just couldn't catch this man. It turns out aquatic moles are very quick and possess an unrivaled sense of smell. In the end, PeeJay got him - but I got PeeJay. I wasn't going to post this hand, but he said that I should as he didn't feel losing the pot was punishment enough.

Paul England opens to £4, PeeJay quickly 3bets to £11, Shola calls on the button. I make like the younger Johnson brother and do a peel out of the small blind with . Paul England folds. Not sure why. We go to a flop of , don't want to explain my entire thought process as I play with PeeJay quite often and a small part of me wants to believe he can't read my soul already. I check, he bets £25, I make it £73. I've been checkraising a lot recently, it's the most fun you can have without being forced to cuddle afterwards. He tanks for ages and explains to me afterwards he was thinking, "you 4bet loads of combos on this board versus my 3betting range, you don't do this with a jack, two pair is super unlikely, it's never a bluff. Basically you have a set. Probably bottom set. But I'm still going to say 'all-in' anyway." And with that, PeeJay was generous enough to get me out of the hole while jakally wasn't looking.

that's gotta be one of the best post's in blonde history! (bolded bit was my fave)

defo gonna quote it in my next blog and say it happened to me.

Saturday:

Couldn't stop flopping the joint; it was unreal. Within the first orbit I'd claimed my first victim, all in on the flop of with , turned a queen to quell the potential perspiration. Did the same thing a few hands later versus the same guy but with this time. Flopped top set versus Mark McCluskey and got three streets, all in on the river. Then things dried up and, towards the end of the session, ran a decent bluff; it was a proper eye-watering moment. I checkraised three clubs on and barreled £180 on a turn. He tanked for ages, stacked up £400 and started pushing them towards the line. My heart slammed in my throat for a second, before he declares, "nope, you probably caught that ace. I fold." Was such a relief. Cashed out an £850 profit that night, which means I theoretically could have left after about an hour and made the same wage, but I picked up a lot of rakeback hours. Well on my way to a Monte Carlo seat this month.

Sunday:

Heater has confirmed come to a close. After a ridiculous EIGHTEEN winning sessions on the bounce, we managed to give £1k back to the community. Just basically couldn't get there with some big hands. A notable one was the which I barreled on and shut down on the brick river, even though another barrel might have done it. Villain #1 shows so he would pay me if a spade dropped, and villain #2 shows so he would pay me if a jackball dropped. I win at showdown anyway if I pair my king or ace, but missed an absolute plethora in a spot where I'm definitely getting a double up if I was still running like it was January. Another "highlight" was possibly the weirdest hand I've played this year so far. It's limped to my button and I raise with . I pick up one caller and he check calls on two hearts. He then checkraises a turn. From my player notes, he just doesn't have anything so maybe I should 3bet-fold here, but I call. The river is a and he bets £151 into £220~ I tankcalled, even though this card can hit his turn bluffing range, I just don't see him limp-calling a lot of kings pre that would take this line, except perhaps K9 of clubs. I flick it in and he shows me an appallingly played . Marv. Didn't feel like I played badly, just missed some monsters and called down at the wrong time! Oh well, I've been running exceptionally hot recently, a session like this was an inevitability. Will be resuming heater on Tuesday.

Monday:

Poker free day. I don't tend to talk a lot about my life off the felt, because I simply can't compete with the traveling/skiing/cat-purchasing/degeneracy on cambridgealex and his housemates. Tonight, though, I went to see one of my all time favourite bands in a show that I shan't soon forget. I don't normally attend gigs these days, as the kind of music I enjoy is normally also enjoyed by a bunch of absolute weirdos and drug addicts. The name of the band is "Brand New" If you haven't heard of them, you should 100% check them out. They've been around since 1998, and their style has really developed over their four studio albums, so it's very had to assign them a genre. Alternative, indie, emo, blues, rock. That ought to do it. Their live rendition of "Jesus Christ" featured a five minute intro, and I don't mind admitting actually brought a tear to my eye. If you've not heard this song, you're really missing out:

Also with the 77, if he just doesn't have anything... then why are you devising a plan to put a bunch more money in the pot and then fold lol? Better to 3bet 5bet 7bet 9bet call imo

You think 18 winning sessions in a row is something to brag about? I've never had a downswing!
