Simon:
If you have 250 runners (as an eg)
Will nim cash remain at €75....or as its half the feild missing, would it be right to assume that all payouts would just double....ie min cash = 150€ and so on.......
Anyways my views on the event
I'm kinda torn here tbh
I only took 2 attempts and qualified for an €120 outlay so obv chuffed at that
Would i have even bothered playing Day 1s if they were all rebuys? Prob not as my roll doesn't allow me to flutter this sort of money away HOWEVER big the guarantee
Adding all these extra day 1s is understandable, but i suppose i am a little perturbed as i bought in on the 2nd day of qualifiers as i knew what i was entering. However i thought from the get-go that it would struggle to get to its guarantee and i was right, kinda why i entered tbh.
Now, sat in Day 2 (altho bloody online and live accounts are knackered so I'm not listed ....oops) i am found that the overlay i predicted (and as a greedy person, entered for) could very well not be there....so i suppose i can be a little miffed.
I dont want DTD to take a hit, as it does provide things that we dont have else where HOWEVER adding all of these extra days in desperation is kinda frustration for those that qualified early to the original format.
When I'm in DTD this weekend, if i bluff allin and get looked up can i actually say "well Ive changed my mind as its costing me money? ill take my chips back on fold instead!"....Obv not, but its kinda what they are doing.
By Guaranteeing a PrizePool, and setting out a format for the tournament, sadly you have to "live by the sword, die by the sword" No? I WOULD like to see, however, if the numbers are 250 or less for them to give something back to the players that have supported the event and maybe increase starting stack, or blind levels....i mean they have changed the goalposts for their benefit, so surely then they can change them for OUR benefit too.
All that said, i think Fezio sums it up...the reasons the #'s are down is that people aren't willing to keep re-entering, and have given up - adding extra day 1s isn't gonna increase the day 2 runners by a lot as people aren't gonna stump more €€€ up. Think this can be seen with the on line flights getting 20-30 runners....only gonna add ~30ish players
I like the "funky" format, especially the money bubble dynamic kickin in so early on in Day 2, but think they must have forcast a large %% of recreational players being in the 5000 runners, whereas the €60 buyin only allows them to have 1...2....maybe 3 attempts with all the other events going on.......I know a few people choosing Goliath over this, as they are guaranteed to be in the running, so to speak, for £120 instead of ploughing through the Qualification.
Good idea with a diff format, but it has back fired......Pick yourselves up, Dust yourselves down and think of a new way forward
Setting aside the 'greedy'/'not greedy' debate on this, this does explain very well why this format can't be viewed as a single €60 tournament. It's a higher buy-in event (although the true value isn't known until afterwards, kind of like the old Grosvenor Grand Prix) with a lot of satellites.
DTD are merely increasing the availability of satellites in trying to reduce the overlay, whereas if this truly was a single tournament (in the true sense of the word) then there would be a valid argument that the original structure shouldn't be changed once it's in progress.

Great move to add the daytime qualifiers
Bad that there is no late entry on today's 1500 which leaves us with 14 runners for one seat...
and no confidence in there being a re-entry opportunity...
I'm not happy with this - the 14 initial runners would have been pretty much guarnateed to generate at least 2 seats witrh late and re entries

Wrote a blog on this:
http://www.atkinator.net/2011/08/dusk-till-dawn-facing-100000-overlay.html
Interestingly, a similar idea in Los Angeles was hugely successful recently.
Thanks for this, superb , well written blog, please can everyone let their friends know via all methods of this fantastic value.
Cheers

Does that stand for "welcome to the forum"?!
Think my 3hrs sleep aided to me not conveying the message I wanted.
Basically. The tourney was set. Dont be changing it.
Or is my opinion not allowed?!
Sorry but your post came across as total greed. IMO DTD do helluva lot for players
. As others have mentioned in other posts, they've raised the bar. They ever foul up on something they always compensate the players in a suitable way.
Whilst it is nice to have an overlay I think most will agree it's worrying to see such a big one for the sake of the club.
But how are they changing the tourney? The payouts? Look at any online tourney on Stars and you see that the payout structure alters as more/less people enter. Same to an extent with yer normal casino crapshoot. Really, what is the problem?
agree
have you ever been to dtd?
they do more for average Joe than any club/casino in the UK ...its has the best dealers floor staff tourney directors etc...
they put money into the UK poker community every single week with the guarantees..
they put on these massive 250k gte Monte Carlo
100k gte deepstack
and now 250k gte for a £50 comp
what the fuck do you want a stt with 1 million gte with a £1 entry with no rake ?
Most incredibly set out post I've ever seen.
sorry i haven't got the writing skills as you ..or most

Been to DTD loads of times.
But thanks for tellin me what i already know
Pretty sure, im not that bothered by your 1mill gte tourny....think your just a little bit excited
!!
With your enthusiasm they shoulda got you to do the promos for this event, they would hit the gte then!!!
i was trying to point out your greed that you would not be happy till you got this.
if you already been to dtd and know who good it is why would you want an overlay apart from greed!
we wanna keep dtd not risk lose it due to overlays.

would help if the online tourneys had late registration, thought they would have 1 hour reg seeing as there are 1 hour re-entries but seems not.
Came home from work, decided i would try again and tried to reg at 7.10 but cant get in.

Late reg. on Boss only works until the first player is eliminated. But, if that isn't implemented for these tourneys, then it would be a good step to make it so.
Also, have dtd considered allowing other sites on the network to feature the satellites? I know that would make the whole 'Golden Chip' thing that they are so fond of redundant, but for a game like this, it would have helped reach the gtee.
I've heard a few complaints about the crapshooty nature of the tourneys, so perhaps that is another reason they are less successful than could be?.
Anyway, I hope it's a success, and will probably have a bash at qualifying myself tomorrow night if around.

Simon
I am not sure people are getting this. For just over £50 you are getting into a level of a major tournament that would have an entry of around £1000
How are they not seeing the value here. I qualified at the club on Sunday with just one extra re-entry and can't wait for day 2
I have a 2 hour journey to the club but just don't see how people are complaint that there is only 75euros min payout.
Surely they should be looking at what they could win not worrying about going out first
Good luck in reducing the overlay in what should be a great tournament

Simon would this be DTD biggest ever overlay ?
Yes
If the players want us to keep offering these huge guarantees they need to support the events, in the Grand Prix case, if you had any reason for not playing eg regarding the format, how can you not want to share in this massive overlay ? Do me a favour guys and spread the word across your social networks, lets see if we can limit the loss.
Cheers
