The difference between a self confessed recovering gambling addict, and a degen gambler is normally variance. The former just ran bad compared to the latter

Serious question.
Do you still think you have a gambling problem?
I read earlier in this thread about how you'd lost thousands and been in trouble with loan sharks etc. but had sorted yourself out and become a changed man.
Maybe I'm missing something but planning a £4k to £100k spin and booking £500 losses on footy doesn't seem overly reformed.
Not having a dig btw as I'd happily do it myself but I got the impression that you'd kicked in gambling and just played poker instead?
Recent posts suggest otherwise.
Hi Matt,
The main difference between now and then is a self discipline that you can only learn from being at what they call ROCK BOTTOM, i have been there and dont wish to go back there.
In terms of my gambling now i am selective and the £500 weekend included the £150 six max £50 petrol some food and the football from the weekend, I didnt post it itt but if i have a nice bink ie £7.5k cashes in sports betting/poker in the weekend before Wales and the weekend after minus 2k in entries/ bets laid out spending money in Wales left a 5.5k surplus of which Petra got 1.5k, plus £900 to clear her credit card, £600 went towards Xmas presents and then i gave her £300 to go and buy some new clobber for her and Max and i spent £200 on me. edit and gave Tighty £200 for the October deepstack update!!
Then i might have a little press up on my stakes for a few bets to scoop but once my run stops you will find me back to a £30 treble to rebuild, I dont think i would ever not gamble as i hold no other vices so would be pretty boring but i have no debt except a half share (not on paper) in 1million of mortgages.
Also the spin up is £40 to £100k, i am prepared to lose £4k in total but that will be over a likely 1 1/2 year period which as this will be most of my sports betting for that time i am comfortable with.
Thx for your concern though
So if the weekend where you won 7.5k went the other way bud and you lost the 500, what woulda happened then?
Do you fade having bets for the next few weeks, does the credit card payment get put on hold a little longer etc?

I started my go at your plan yesterday (£20 to 10k), running two simultaneous pots so as long as i don't brick both on the same day i will continue to have a sweat.. Bet#1 both binked. I am doing it a fanny way though and booking 50% of each win so after 2/3 bets i am using profs only. Will take twice as long but i learnt the hard way from when i used to lay nil nils on bf for the world.
I say booking... 50% of each win drips into another system i am working on.
The way i see it as long as you don't get in debt to gamble and having a gamble wont lead you to do so, then it is fine. I used to max credit cards on degen spin downs all the time, them days are over, now i just max em on Vegas strippers. fml.
Looking forward to meeting again and swapping stories. GLGL in everything.

wow, this is pretty interesting
I did a blog about my take on gambling addiction and post-posting it I have had a few e-mails from people sharing there definition of what IS ACTUALLY A GAMBLING ADDICT
So Rich without being too personal (I am genuinely interested) - can you define
a) A gambling addict
Someone who actually does not care about the end result ie winning or losing as in the end they know they will lose so its the time between starting and the end result could be one bet or the tenth of the day, its the sinking feeling as they walk out that they know is coming. This person will spend life monies on gambling with no care for the impact on them or family it is all about betting/losing. This person has most likely sold or pawned some stuff along the way losing some of it as they were only interested in the next bet as opposed to retrieving their goods and when this runs out could turn to crime. Overall Gambling consumes their life!!
b) a problem gambler
I would say this person in on the road to being person A as they have borrowed money on credit or friends family in order to feed their ever growing addiction, they are probably starting to hide debts from loved ones etc etc
c) a degenerate gambler
Most Omaha Players!!
d) a recreational gambler
Someone who is in control, does not feel the need to bet every day and also if they lose its not the end of the world as they never used money that was set aside for life
IMO only

So if the weekend where you won 7.5k went the other way bud and you lost the 500, what woulda happened then?
When i won the 2 weekends i use the money well but if i didnt bink my life would be as normal work blah blah put £20-30 on over goals in certain matches ala deepstack weekend, its only if i have a nice win will i press a bit or play an extra live game ie £150 six max as in normal life i would never drive to Notts for a 1 day £150 tourney i would just keep to the deepstack weekend and one £100 luton tourney
Do you fade having bets for the next few weeks, does the credit card payment get put on hold a little longer etc?
Petra only has a limit of £1k on her card and obv i dont have one, this would have been paid off anyways from this months wages but i would have gone back to small balling

Yesterday went well.. i was gonna wait til the wknd to find a decent bet, but got greedy. Did both banks in on the same night, an 88 min equaliser from Siena against Roma crushed me. so far you have bet #2 to beat.. Starting again this week but gonna limit myself to 1 pick per week so it will take 6 months to complete.
*Disclaimer unless one of my outstanding Accas/trebles comes in then i will start again this wknd..

This is the first bet of the challenge, I am laying Aston Villa on sunday for £40 obviously i can back and lay and this works out at around 2/5 so we have QPR and the DRAW if anyone on here does not know what a lay bet is.
Not sure i will keep justifying each selection but might start and see where we go, Villa have not played anyone of real quality yet and whilst QPR are not real quality they have started to play well.
GL to the followers and i will open a new thread on Betting Tips and Sporting Discussion later for peeps lets see if someone can get there goal
So 1st Bullet has been fired!!
