who decides how much someone gets paid when a player is drafted? I assume that you have to go to the team that picks you but what if they only offer you a tenner a week?
each team is allocated a rookie pool of $ by the league, the team picking at the top allocated mroe etc etc
then if Luck say goes for $50m over 5 years with x guaranteed there is a slotting system where packages slide down from that
Occasionally players do hold out, and try to get better money and even more occasionally don't want to play for the team that drafts them
but in essence its mostly done by league formula and working off what the pick above got and going lower than that
So for the player, getting drafted in the top ten not 20-32 is a big big deal
Once the players first deals expire, usually after 4 years, is the key time as the good ones demand alot of money and teams need to fit into the $120m salary cap
The new CBA agreed last season restricted the silly money going to top draft picks, so the days of the $50m deals for Bradford/Stafford etc are gone.
The No1 pick will get a deal closer to $20m overall value these days, IIRC.
This, in reality, makes the high draft picks much more valuable in real terms as the degree to which a team has to break the bank to sign this picks is much reduced. Going back a couple of seasons, some teams quite literally couldn't afford to hold the high picks.

Really surprised he's chosen Denver.
Once San Fran showed their interest it really should have been a no brainer.
The talent on the two teams are not comparable.
He's not getting a ring with the Broncos, he could have done with the Niners.
#lolbrotherlylove
me too, we got on the niners a few days ago at 20/1 hoping for the best from this.
really thought he'd go there to have a great shot at a ring.
hopefully smith comes back now, or we're bang under it!

Imagine being the person who got to tell Flushy that the Fins had signed Tebow.
It's stupid enough it might just work!!

Tebow traded to the Jets!
Sanchez gonna have a fun few months in a quarterback controversy now. I would think that he'll lose the job
Saints docked 2 second round picks for bounty-gate. Sean Payton suspended for a year! Pretty amazing news that, kicking a SB winning coach to the curb for a year

Tebow cost a 4th round pick
I think it could be genius
Tebow has a legitimate shot at starting
Jets get a "winner" for a modest cost and the chance to move on from Sanchez comparatively painlessly, if Tebow works out
Miami meanwhile look in dreadful shape. Smith resigned with SF too

The timing of the trade is curious.
Two weeks ago, the Jets gave Sanchez a three-year, $40.5 million contract extension, professing their faith in him even though he regressed in certain areas last season. They signed former Detroit Lions backup Drew Stanton last week to be their No. 2 quarterback, handing him a $500,000 signing bonus. They also have former Alabama star Greg McElroy.

Abs perfect again, basically shortens every team in the NFC except st loius who now have no D coordinator.
Obv Atlanta and Carolina much better of than they were.Tampa too.
The good old bookmakers have pushed out the saints to 12/1 and not bothered to shorten anyone else bar Carolina.

Can't think the Jets are going to use Tebow as a genuine QB.
Wildcat offense and short yardage situations QB and blocking back/Hback in normal sets would be my guess.
Really would have been interesting if Tebow had gone to the Pack.

Sporano seems sure to use him in the wildcat system as he did at Miami.

In the second season of using it in Miami, it was spectacularly unsuccessful.
Tebow would be a cracking TE imo.

Wow 2 pretty amazing bit of news.
Fwiw I am glad we have swerved Tebow and Smith, don't think either improve our situation. Matt Moore was pretty good when he got the job last year, not that I think we are going to be a contender with him.
