I'm suffering from a form of jet lag as well at the moment.

Although the clocks where I was over new year were similar to England it was the getting in at 7.00am and waking up at 5pm that's caused the problem.

So similar to Woodsey I've just decided to not go to the gym.

Fortunately I'm fit as fuck anyway so it doesn't matter.

Good luck everyone.

Should have gone to the gym today but really cba.  Need to work on that, prolly keeping a packed gym bag ready to go might help..

Really struggling with any exercise with week too, when I get my body clock back in sync maybe.......

So jet lag is affecting you so much that you can't do exercise for a whole week? Seems ridiculous.

Got to agree with Cos, Russells and Mantis. Thats why I like them both so much.  Wink

Cos is right with the lame excuses.
I got back from Vegas, landing 10.30am on Monday, started my new role as MD at work Tuesday, had a meeting at HSBC last night. It doesnt matter. I was going to keep my normal gym routine.

Martial arts Tuesday, Spinning Wednesday, Ran 8k last night after HSBC and tonight gonna fit in a run and weights before DTD.

Just force yourselves to get there and that's it your away. Say's a lot about you if you don't have the self control to make yourself do something so easy.

Russells comment about Girgy's toast is so true also. You could add a main meal too that list and still lose massive amounts of weight!

Same for Soviet, a few pints one night a week and a nandos one night a week isnt going to make much of a difference IF everything else is sensible and healthy.

Sorry Stu but that's just bollocks. Jet lag affects people in different ways, just because your 'ok' doesn't mean everyone else will be too. I've been so fucked when I got home from work each day (apart from one I was ok) that I have basically just stayed awake as long as I could manage and then go
to bed. I'm then waking up at stupid o'clock and am still really knackered trying to sleep but not able to.

My ONLY priority this week was to ensure I get enough kip so I can function at work that is it. I'm really motivated about this whole thing and ifI was able to go to the gym I would have done.

I'm gonna lose this 24lbs but I'm gonna do it my way, not how other people think I should. If it was a lame excuse I would just say I couldn't be arsed going to the gym as I don't care what people think anyway, I have no doubt I will be doing that plenty of times over the 12 weeks.  Cheesy

Fair enough Woodsey but to people reading the thread it still seems lame. Because you're bodyclock is out of sync why does that mean you can't get to the gym for a half hour?

Mate I'm fucked just sat her in the car sat outside the hospital waiting to go in. The last thing I will want to do after a 2 hour drive home later at 4pm is go to the gym. It would be pointless, I would put very little into in and get very little out of it. Better to get myself sorted out with a few good nights Kip and focus on the gym next week.

It's a marathon not a sprint, a few days isnt  going to make a blind bit of difference. Judge people on their progress with weight over the weeks that is all that matters at the end of the day.

np and im sure you'll achieve your target - I was just saying because I know the sort of the mindset of overweight people and any old excuse becomes so easily justified.

I personally would just get to the gym for a bit but each to their own.

I know you are well meaning Cos, but bear in mind what a typical day is for some.  You have a lot more "free time" than I do, so loads more opportunity.  If you have kids, work, wife, etc, all of a sudden you may get a 1 hour window at most.  From time to time, you just aren't going to jam the gym into that case hour.  That said, I still do need to force in lifestyle changes sufficiently to allow me to maintain a healthy lifestyle, as does everyone else.

That's all well and good, but I wouldn't be writing things along the lines of 'cant really be bothered to go to the gym today'. I would say, 'after work, picking the kids up from school, cooking dinner, getting the wife from the train station I just dont have the time'.

If you're an experienced gym user the overall satisfaction you get from a session is much greater than somebody just starting out. That's because you've been progressing mentally as you've trained physically. So for a reg the sense of well being is heightened after a session as they welcome the release of endorphins like an old friend and enjoy that sense of physical achievement. Being in a committed mental place is something you progress towards as part of your training thou, it's not generally something we have naturally when creating a new habit. So a reg who takes a break can get back into it quickly with their underlying fitness and trained mental approach. And if you're a committed gym goer your ability to overcome obstacles and avoid excuses is greater because of that experience, it's not because your character is stronger. It's an easier priority because experience makes the ROI much clearer. Personally I think if you are ok to work you are ok to walk on the treadmill for 10mins and flop in the steam room for 10mins, which is forcing yourself to commit mentally to the new lifestyle, not forcing yourself into physical challenges you can't meet. It will probably help the sleeping patterns, it's a building block to change, and feelings of achievement will begin. That said I started my new fitness plan this year and I've got excuses coming out of my arse. The morning after my first session I couldn't get down the stairs for two days so ruled out any more this week. Although undoubtedly I could've walked on the treadmill for 10mins and flopped in the steam room for 10mins.

Mr. Galloway's idea about the prepacked bag by the door works, step over that fecker at your peril. But the time factors excuse is generally bullshit. Everything you do in life depends on your health so finding a couple of hours a week to invest in something so vital isn't beyond any of us.

Why would someone list that when it's their standard day?

So it's not that you can't be arsed, it's just that you have no time?

I'm confused.

If Mantis never says anything sensible ever again, (Unlikely cause he's pretty savvy) the above statement would still make up for it.

In fact it's so good, I'm going to steal it and use it as my own.

Mantis - you are manage a gym right?

You must have seen hundreds of fatties coming in in January with the best of intentions year in year out, and seen some successes, and mostly failures.

From your experience, and the experience of your personal trainer colleagues, what do the fatties who go from no exercise & lifelone bad diet, to gym crazy health fantastics, do differently?

I dont mean what do elite fitness nuts do, I mean literally the guys that change their lifestyle from bad to good and stick to it.

Also, any chance you could write in shorter paragraphs?  Smiley

You eating the whole thing in one go?

Doesn't sound particularly unhealthy but appears to be quite a large portion.
