Would really like 7.. If i ate 500 cals including carbs I think you would be right, but on 500 cals with these shakes your body goes into ketosis and starts using the stored fat instead of carbs for energy. I have ketostix which tell me I am in Ketosis and I am currently in the second highest level of it according to the chart thingy.

Yeah I know what ketosis is, I posted about it earlier in the thread. You're better off doing it the proper way and losing weight in a steadier fashion. Doing it this way you're never going to keep it off imo which is a shame as that is what you're aiming for and starting at such a large weight you would lose heavily anyway so I don't really get it.

There is a much healthier way of doing it here

http://gymblog.co.uk/diet-and-nutrition/dave-palumbo-diet-bodybuilding-keto-diet/

Yea read that website when you first posted it. Genuinely don't get why it is much healthier? How is it healthier than drinking low carb/low cal, nutritional meal replacement shakes? Palumbo seems very similar to Atkins to me. Which in theory would be good but in practice preparing every meal in advance would do my head in. At the moment, fill my beaker with water and have a shake in the car on the way to work in the morning, have a shake at my desk at lunch and one when i get in. Really fits in with my working lifestyle. Weekends apart I wouldn't have time to get up make something every morning for breakfast, eat it, then make something for every lunch, cooking tea would be doable. I tried the 2 shakes in the day and a low carb healthy meal at night. That could be sustainable, but weight loss wasn't great although very small sample. Before this thread. I never had breakfast then i would buy a baguette, crips, chocolate and drink for lunch then have a bad tea. so the way i see it I am being much healthier than I was before!?

i've been pretty surprised at the weight i've lost so far, was losing weight at 2500 cals a day lost more at 2250. this weeks 2000 seems a bit too much for me tbh, i'm finding myself cutting out good stuff like fish oil in order to have some cheese or something, think i might go back to 2250 just seemed a lot easier. if i'm losing weight on those numbers at 16 stone then it would surely be flying off you heavier guys? living on 500 cals a day must be fucking miserable and apparently most people just put it straight back on after a starvation type diet.

these guys were on around 1800 a day apparently.
http://jn.nutrition.org/content/135/6/1347.full

anyway today i've nom nomed 1900 cals and done some weights.

Because you are following a diet which still allows you to eat healthily whilst going into ketosis and burning fat. Not sipping a couple milkshakes a day and eating so far below BMR it's dangerous. It's a ketogenic diet which gets you into ketosis as per your aims and does so in a much healthier fashion than just depriving yourself of food.

It's not sustainable and the end result is likely to be the standard result of most who do such extreme diets because they like to see the numbers drop quickly. You can eat properly and still lose weight at a good rate in a healthy fashion. Prepare yourself a salad of sorts to take to work and a protein shake you can make up whilst there which negates the 'don't have time at work'.

You're being unhealthier than you were before imo by eating nothing, you can still eat plenty and drop lots of weight in good time. I'm the worst binge eating food donk going but I've done a fair bit of research and it's much better to lose steadily but be able to still enjoy food with exercise than it is to just donk those shakes down so it falls off rapido.

All imo of course Smiley

I've already posted my Two Clubs on ketosis, but I will write a little bit more in support of Milligan....

A ketosis diet might not be healthy, but nor is walking around @ 24 stone.  Plenty of doctors support (you have to get a doc to sign your application) the shake diets.  Most people don't realise that it is actaully a very easy diet to follow with no hunger pangs at all and after a couple of weeks of it, your energy levels pick up to the point where you can comfortably manage exercise.

I'm not debating that 2 lbs a week on a steady diet isn't the optimal route - it is.

For people that are heavily overweight, something has gone wrong in the past.  Whatever it is, the key to sustained weight loss is to make sure you understand what went wrong FOR YOU.  Not what someone else does in the gym, not how someone else organises their day, not what menu options someone else likes.  It has to be understanding what makes your self tick (or not tick) what emotional states lead to silly eating, what bad habits you have.  And then solving them.

I imagine lots of people that lose a good amount on 2 lbs a week subsequently put most of it back on too.  They lost the weight, but they didn't examine why they had the extra weight in the first place, so they revert to previous at some point.

Altho keto-diets are famed for rapid weight loss, the biggest benefit of them imo is that it really teaches you a lot about yourself.  Your palate can change completely (I like foods now that I didn't previously like) and I have a better understanding of where I go wrong and how to avoid it (with room for improvement on actually avoiding it)

At some point, everyone needs to learn how to eat a sensible amount of foods to be healthy and maintain an even weight.  How you get there isn't as important and will vary from person to person.

I'm not saying a ketosis diet is unhealthy, I am saying that eating or rather drinking 500cals a day for sustained periods is unnecessary when you can go onto a keto diet and lose weight very quickly whilst consuming a normal amount of calories/food.

Marky boy, you know i love ya and your opinion is one I value very highly indeed. Really surprised at the all round belief that what I am doing is that unhealthy, especially when i read about so many people doing it.

Galloway says it well.

Just trying to find out what feels best for me. Agree that the shakes are very convenient and easy to follow. Ketosis is defo the way forward. Once my shakes run out (just over a week) I will try upping my carbs eating real food but staying in ketosis. See what happens.

I am a bit hungry tbh, tempted to take a bite out of the couch..

Seems illogical that it can be harder to live on shakes, steak, chicken and vegetables as opposed to shakes only

Weighed myself today at work and was 15st 11lb
This is a gain of 1lb.
Personally i'm very happy with that seeing as I have done fuck all exercise for a couple of weeks and eaten any old crap, including fish and chips last night.
Doing a shed load of DIY atm, had the lounge replastered yesterday and been tiling the kitchen today. House in utter chaos and will be for the next couple of weeks. Will probs eat whatever is easy during this time.

Nah i get it. Shake is a shake. All choices are taken away. Steak you will say oooh, i will just throw a bit of sauce on, oh this would be quality with some chips and onion rings. A lot of it is mental, ppl will say just don't have it with chips..

If you're going to go back to eating normal food and still want to stay in ketosis then stay away from carbs. Just follow a ketogenic diet once your shakes run out, you'll still burn fat and make sure cals are at a reasonable level so you still drop weight nice and steadily

Happy with the week so far, eaten really well and walked to work Monday and Tuesday and walked about 1/3 of the way home mon/tues/weds.  Feet are hurting a little as my shoes have been rubbing but its prob just because i'm not used to it.

Still not feeling hungry at any point which I think is really important as if I'm hungry i'm likely to break and get a greggs/mcdonalds or whatever.

Breakfast : Porridge + teaspoon of honey

Mid morning snack : Banana

Lunch : Ham sandwich on wholemeal bread with cup 'a' soup

Afternoon snack : M&S Sushi (about 260 cals but fking love it!)

Tea : Chicken, cooked on George foreman with low fat Philadelphia in the middle + veg and a couple of new potatoes.

Drinks : two cups of tea (both with one sugar) and a shed load of water.  Diet coke with evening meal.

Going for a curry with work tomorrow night, I plan to get Lamb Chops to start & have chicken balti with boiled rice for main.  Not sure of any other mains that are that great, might see what fish they have on as I love fish.  I can't have a dry curry so know its not the best thing but better than what I would normally get.
