All the A1 trolling you've been doing and then you just ask me a serious question??  Bah.

I can understand a lot of people would jump to the conclusion that "as soon as you start eating again, you will put on weight."  Fair enough too.  But conceptually at least, the idea is for people that have 'lost their way' with eating to get a break from it completely.  Then when you re-introduce food, you rediscover hunger pangs and which foods are 'trigger foods' for you to avoid or eat in moderation.  I.O.W you learn to eat properly again from scratch.

For me personally, my bad habits are/were eating by the clock (rather than by eating when hungry) eating too quickly (I've finished meals before some have put pepper and salt on..) and not stopping when full, (always clear the plate)

For the pencil-necked in the community, it might all seem bunkum, (but they don't have eating disorders or serious bad habits with food) but fellow fatties will probably connect with it a bit more...

I really dislike the nirvana question. Even if it just gives you the motivation to start that should be reason enough!

Gl all in the thread, but make sure this is just your start, otherwise nirvana will tell you all he told you so  Wink

Not really - it's related to why I asked the question.

If you try and fail twice, maybe the way you're doing it is wrong.

Some people can quit an addiction by going cold turkey and others by weaning themselves off it. VLCD are like the food equivalent of cold turkey - but that's not necessarily the best way to see a permanent change.

Doubters are just a pain in the fucking arse Jon, trust me I know, I've tried and failed several times.

There will obviously need to be a change, but if some kind of fast start gives someone the realisation and confidence to change the way they are then I say go for it! You don't need to plan the whole journey before you set off, just have a few different ideas in case their is a road closure on the first leg of the journey!

Like I said! Gl all

I really dislike the nirvana question.

I didn't take offence.  OK, a career in motivational speaking may not lie in wait for Glennda, but it is a common view of "fad" diets.

Eat less/better, exercise more, slow and steady wins the race.

If only historically I found it that easy.  Bit like telling a poker player not to tilt off his stack after chipping up.  Easy on paper, but you know he's still going to do it.

Thanks for the reply Simon, I didn't but I can now see that there's some kinda theory there which makes sense - a real sharp shock to the system perhaps jolting a person into a new way of life. I can see why you say it's the third and last time, that also makes sense and best of luck with it.

Outrageous, you wanna take some kinda PMT therapy - my question is not the reason why you fail and if I encouraged you, that too wouldn't make an iota of difference.

I asked Simon a question because I care about him, not like my brother or son perhaps, but I care about him.

I can completely relate to the issue - not with food, but with fags so I know how hard these addictive behaviours are to change, irrespective of the net gains we would get from changing.

I will get off the thread completely because I dont wanna be any kind of downer for you chaps and I think it's great that you may gain some camaraderie and support in pursuit of your goals.

Good luck fatties

I wasn't having a go at you per se, I just hate the question. Let people stay motivated, pose the question once they have lost some weight maybe

Oh, and I didn't fail and nor have I subsequently

And much of my non failure of keeping the weight off has been ignoring people who try tell you the way to do it!

Have a plan, stick to it, find something that keeps you motivated and minimise the swings. That's all I'd offer! There are a million ways to do it, each has there benefits and pitfalls

Say you sit down at a live donkament, you can't really be bothered playing as you know it's going to be a massive grind then you double up in the first orbit, you then think hang on, I could crush this thing. Let's Gogogogo. I see starting with a VLCD as something like that. Got my shakes, soups and meal replacement bars at the ready. Time to get pissing on some ketostix and smash this.

IMO Motivation is 100000% the biggest factor, you can Learn, adapt and conquer along the way but if you are not motivated you are fucked. I can hand on heart say the money aspect itt doesnt do much towards my motivation at all but other stuff in my life has completely made me have a proper look at myself. But i know the thread and the group of guys we have in it will make it a lot easier on everyone and possibly even fun along the Way. Failure is not an option.

Say goodbye to 2011 fatties and look forward to a 2012 where we all start looking like George Clooney! First drink of the night was a Jager Bomb. #probsnotmakingmidnight peace.

I see it more as... "well this is so completely screwed up I'm not sure where to start... Let's strip this bad boy right down to the canvas and start again.."

I agree motivation has to be there (as it does to get over the line in any tough challenges)

Just based on my previous diet experiences, the £100 for losing 3stone is a bit nitty (meh, nits gonna nit) as it is a shoo-in.  The remaining two though are definitely not safe, but if I don't succeed, it is going to cost me far more in non-monetary terms such that the £200 won't matter.

So donk, Guy.

Simon's reasoning for breaking his cycle of bad eating is a good one.

I think these weird diets are all pretty tez but that's just about the best reason I can think of for doing it.

If Simon genuinely thought it was a good way to keep weight off rather than just lose it then Nirvana has just prompted him to think about that with a strangely non-trolling question.
