Would any pools be open in say Jan/Feb?
Is it a bit too cold for it anyway?

Some close for the winter. Bellagio I know opens one or two pools year round. I've swum in them Jan/Feb, it is fine for a swim and the hot tubs are nice and perfectly enjoyable.
However, you need to have an exit strategy reasonably well planned, out the water and out of there in the minimal amount of time, with tracksuit on etc back to the room. You certainly won't be drip drying by the pool and waiting for cocktails. The lifeguards will have triple layers on and be sitting under heaters looking at you as if you are totally mad. Brisk swim each day for those grinding pokerz all day and generally eating cr@p is well worthwhile tho.

If Circusx2 was their intended target, that saves searching the higher end properties...
It is too far out for any of the bonus codes I have to be valid, so imo just plug those dates into somewhere like lowcostusa (choose direct flight) and see what the 3* prices are coming back for centre strip. These are all tick box filters you can search with on their site. Harrahs/Flamingo/Quad/Ballys are the types of property that are going to be coming back...

Good man getting them to rule out circuscircus.
How much are people expecting to pay? It may be that you could find a deal and surprise them compared to what they are expecting for the money.
The pool will depend on how lucky you get with the weather. High 20s is possible, so is 4degrees for that time of year, though you should expect around 20degrees.
Your dates are at a pretty good time as there doesn't appear to be any big conventions on and you miss the auto aftermarket which is massive. Are your dates completely fixed or do you have a day either way to play with

Not stayed here. That section of the strip is getting a bit of attention, with SLS opening up on the Sahara site and possibly something happening with fontainebleau in due course, things might not be too bad.
But for the here and now, it is really in a shit location and I wouldn't stay there unless I was getting an absolutely amazing deal.

Currently over in Vegas now & staying in the vdara, which is a very frustrating hotel & the location is not all that. So far due to the fact that the service has been terrible they've nearly refunded all of the resort fees, which if you are staying here its best to moan & they will keep refunding you.
However the rooms are decent with the little kitchen inside, but if you want a room with a view, then good luck, because you are situated between two hotels which cut off most if the view, but if you are lucky you can get a minor view of the strip and the Bellagio fountains.
If you want to play cash it's next to aria, which is ideal, but the vdara is 20-30 minute walk to the Venetian, which is why I look at the location as "not ideal". The hotel is clean and friendly though, connected the bellagio & from what I am to believe the rooms are better than aria and slightly cheaper, so if you are stick between the two vdara might be the best choice, however there is NOT a casino here.
Having an awful time at the tables though, $20 raises at 1-2 lol

Must be a nightmare being a poker player in a plush hotel between Bellagio and Aria

That's because Vdara is a "non-gaming" Resort.
