I don't know how to search for cheap flights. It asks me to be specific.

Which day do I want to leave?

Which day do I want to return?

Which airport do I want to fly from / to etc..

I want to go to Texas for about a month, flying out on the cheapest day into the cheapest airport.

How do I enter that information?

Sorry for the Hijack.

Go to http://www.skyscanner.net

Put in your "from" airport (I would assume London)

Type "Texas" into the "To" airport. Unfortunately it doesn't let you select Texas, what it does will bring down a dropdown of all the major airports in Texas, starting with Houston. Work your way through them one by one (if there are more than one, just choose "Houston (Any)" for example, and it will search all airports in the Houston area).

In the "Depart" box, click the calendar. At the bottom, there is a button called "Whole Month". Click this then choose the month you would prefer to leave the UK. It will auto fill the "Return" box with the same month, ignore this for now. Choose how many people and how you would like to fly (auto set to one and economy) and then click search.

When it does the search you get two bar charts. The smaller bars are the cheaper dates. If you click on the month drop down box of the "Depart" bar chart, it brings up a list of all the months with the cheapest flight next to it (eg November 2013 £238). Clicking on your preferred month will redo the search for that month.

Click on the date you wish to leave the country and then if your return date is in the next month (eg leave 11th June rtn 11th July) go to the second bar chart and change the month as above. The second chart will change dependent on what date you choose to leave. Choose your return date as above and click "search flights". Make a note of the flight cost/dates/times and repeat for the next major airport.

That's very useful. Thank you.

With sky scanner you can pick the uk as an option. Often manchester is a better option than London for example.

Virgin sale now on! Prices are pleasing tbf, but it does involve going on the Virgin flight.

Virgin flight is the best one imo.

Just looking at Skyscanner and it seems BA have some cheap flights in June as well, Chompy.

Just booked mine and Jack Allen's flights from Manchester to Vegas on Virgin Atlantic direct return for £568 each which is 2000 miles plus money. Very happy with that! It was £900 odd yesterday!

Depends what you want to happen...

I did have the old plane config down pat, not too familiar with the new one yet but seat guru obliges...  http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Virgin_Atlantic_Airways/Virgin_Atlantic_Airways_B747-400_LGW-1.php

Upstairs is better than downstairs imo - quieter cabin, less bustle.  Back row upstairs is marked as yellow probably because you can't fully recline, but nor can you get someone sat behind you that needs to pull hard on your headrest in order to get their fat arse in and out of their seat.  You will also get off the plane quickly.  If you pay for teh legroom seats upstairs, it is loads of legroom, no way can you reach the row in front.

Downstairs, I'd say generally sit close to the front and get off the plane quicker, thereby getting a better shot at getting through immigration quicker.  The luggage carousel will sometimes not oblige anyway.

Upstairs at the back (row 79). No-one kicking your chair, near to galley for drinks!

Some people haven't realised that seats are 'open' now.
I booked Fri for end of May and got allocated row 33. Pretty much where I would pick for downstairs as there are 4 of us.

For the return there was seats available upstairs, so change my seats to them. Sooo quiet upstairs, essential for some shut eye on the way home

I hadn't realised they were open until I read this, this morning.

Good work, folks!
