What are the best ways to collect virgin air miles? Seems to be worth doing it.
Also any other ways of collecting air miles with other airlines?

We accrue most of our miles by using a Virgin Credit Card for all our purchases (literally everything!). There are 2 types of card, the white and the black. We have the white (although we'd probably be better off with the black one!) and we get a Reward Voucher if we spend £10k in a 12 mth period (as well as 1 mile for every pound spent) and 2 Reward Vouchers if we spend £20k in a 12 mth period. In addition if we spend £15k in that same 12 mths we get a Companion ticket. In order to use your Reward voucher(s) you have to have sufficient miles in your account (42,500 for a return to Vegas) and you then pay the tax only for the flight. The Reward Voucher gets you an upgrade from Economy to Premium, or Premium to Upper (subject to seats being available). It is not easy to find availability to be honest. I was told yesterday by Virgin's helpline that most flights only have 2 reward seats available in each cabin. More info available here: http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/gb/en/flying-club/credit-card.html

Every normal economy flight earns circa 10k miles The credit card, as Michelle highlighted is used by many You can convert Tesco clubcard points to virgin miles If so inclined as to play them, virgins gaming site offers virgin miles as rewards You have to be very flexible to use the points though. I have 70k and can never find flights for when I want to go.

I have a tesco credit card and spend 3.5/4 k a month on it , I get a point for every £ I believe and get vouchers for tesco shop which I buy miles with then any spare can be used to double up near Xmas on usually wine and champagne Same time as my credit card is used my nectar card gets used so I get more booze at sainsburys I have similar problems with using the miles so I now phone them up ,I find they are more helpful on the phone ,for instance I got a return to Vegas in January for 211£ total

I agree phoning them gets good results. The info shown on the website isn't always accurate, there isn't always a seat available, even if it is showing as so. (And by extension, there may be some availability not currently showing.) I'd say to do this, you should be in a position to pretty much book on the spot if they have (or can create) what you are looking for.
June this year you'd have to be pretty inflexible not to be able to utilise an economy reward seat ~ readily available. Premium is a bit harder (altho I did get one, it took a couple of re-visits ~ not exactly hard work tho) and Upper was definitely thin-to-none on availability.
You can always ask at the ground desk (NOT the check in desk) and use miles on the day ... in my experience they are fairly liberal with this when there is availability. However, it is better imo to know you have Upper in the bag when you leave the front door, rather than hoping for it at the airport)
As for earning points, yea actual £ flights and credit card spend are the main routes with Tescos and a bunch of other 3rd parties offering good points conversion rates. Miles Booster and Buy Miles promos are also worth crunching the maths on.

I've found carhire3000 to be fit for purpose.
Cliffs:
Will be ~£20/day and no need to wade thru all the upsell of insurance

I use the carrentals.co.uk comparison site, which covers all the major car rental companies including carhire3000. Never had a problem in 10+ rentals round the world including Vegas.

Stupid question, the Mrs asked and I don't know the answer as never done it.
If on Skyscanner and there are connecting flights does your luggage get automatically transferred at the connecting airport or do you need to stop collect, check back in go throgh the whole rigmarole again?

Normally it is all automatically transferred as long as it is one booking.

If you connect in the states you have to pick up your luggage and go through customs, but you just drop it off at a area, you don't need to queue. On the way back it goes straight through.

The one thing I hate most about vegas is having booked your car hire you get to the airport car hire building and they try every trick in the book to get you to pay more.

Another +1 for carhire3000 (now called Rentalcars.com).
Just booked a SUV for 6 weeks for £850 via them, think they are the lowest prices around.
Always great service and I've used them about 10 times now.
