Has anybody done a limo from the airport rather than a taxi on arrival? Was thinking of getting one this year, there are 4 of us. Worth the extra or not? Prebook before or arrange on arrival?

Also thinking of hiring a car for the day and doing the Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon. Is this doable in one day assuming an early start/late finish?

Hi Guys

Still a Vegas Virgin however I've just got the green light to make the trip this year.

Definitely something Im looking forward to it but needs a good amount of planning.

Ill be looking to fly in on June 12/13th and will be playing  mainly a WSOP NL schedule culminating with the main event (likely to be playing Day 1B on June the 6th )

To all intent and purposes I guess you could call this a working holiday so although I like the odd drink I'm no party animal and would prefer a quiet hotel with a gym and swimming pool ideally not too far away from the poker action .

I've read through most of this thread and like Simons Vdra Hotel suggestion but was wondering for 3/4 weeks has anybody got any alternatives or indication of prices if you were to block book etc.

Any Accommodation Advice or just general tips would be appreciated.

Cheers & Thanks in Advance

Fraser

palms place mate, vdara really expensive this year. i can send you some slightly cheaper prices if you want.

Just had a quick look on Main Event, and Low Cost USA, and you can get 28 days at Palms Place for ~£2100 with LCUSA (exc resort fee), or £2400 for 30 days with MET (unsure about resort fee)

If you're looking to put in most of your volume at the Rio, this would be ideal. As it has it's own fitness centre & spa etc.

Ebookers had Vdara for £102 per day, which comes out at £3.4k for 28 days, when you add in the resort fees.

Given that your dates encompass the 3 days of EDC, that's not a bad deal, as even bad hotels are very expensive that weekend.

If you're wanting to be on the strip for the that long, I'd suggest doing what I used to do when I was more mobile, and stay in 2-3 hotels, dependent on length of trip

Cheers Mark .

Looks like I need to give the palms some serious consideration too

Pads if you could send me " the cheaper prices " that would be great . I assume you are there ? what dates etc ?

Cheers

No need to pre-book, Mark, just walk out of the Terminal, & they are all lined up, begging for Business. They are at the far right end of the Taxi bays, or used to be. They are mostly driven or operated by sharp sorts, who will quote $100 to get to the Strip or Rio areas. Just haggle, with luck you can get them down to $40. I squeezed 9 people into one once & paid $50.

Worth the extra? Not in my book, though if you pay for 2 regular taxis as you have 4 passengers, or haggle down the limo price, it comes to about the same.

Car hire to the Hoover Dam - yes, very do-able, & worthwhile. Parking is a bit of a bugger, & can involve a bit of a walk, but it's OK.

You could not - reasonably - do Grand Canyon AND Hoover Dam in a hire car though, it's a bit much.

In fact I'd suggest that Grand Canyon & back in a car (in a day) is a tad too far really, never mind adding in a Hoover Dam visit. To drive, direct, from Central Vegas to Grand Canyon is 5 hours - each way. Note also that if you want to visit the Grand canyon "SkyWalk", you will be driving on unpaved roads for a few miles.

The Hoover Dam visit usually includes the "tour" & all that stuff - you'll be there 2 hours at least, more if you want to stand & perv at the magnificent concrete spillways.

I always get one, because cabs downtown are almost $40 anyway, and with a Limo I can stop off on the way and get some stuff for the fridge etc.

Presidential have an airport special, which is about  $120 (both ways) + tip - https://www.presidentiallimolv.com/

When we did Grand Canyon a few years ago in the car we took 2  days out, stayed overnight in a small town near the GC and enjoyed a full day at GC and think it is definitely not worth doing in one day including driving.

Wish these other casinos would put their fessies up, trying to work out a schedule Smiley

Yes, agreed. Same every year, they promise mid-March latest, & publish early April.

The GN schedule is less favourable to the variants you & I enjoy, so I'm hoping Binions will react accordingly.

If you don't mind moving hotels, try Vdara Sun-Thu via LowCostUsa and then weekends at the Gold Coast (WSOP rate advertised on their offers page). Should work out less than £75 per night including all taxes and resort fees.

I don't know if you are that bothered about a deal Fraser, but Vdara must be an ideal choice for an individual like you.

I stayed there for my visit for ten days & it's quiet, along with being connected to Aria and Bellagio. But it does have it's own spa, gym, swimming pool too, along with it's own kitchen as standard, which must surely be quite useful for you.

I suppose it all depends on what you want or if you want a deal.

Couldn't put anyone off Palms Place or Vdara.  Vdara is definitely better located for everything non-poker and Palms Place is better situated for Rio.  It won't take long to get quotes from several sources for your exact dates and see how the $$ compares.

If I was to recommend one thing about either, I'd say to not take the entry level room in either.  If the $$ isn't too much of an issue, stretch to the Corner Suite in Vdara (rather than entry-level Deluxe Suite) or 1-BDR suite in PP (rather than entry-level studio suite)

Friend is just back from Vegas this week cost him 750 for flights plus hotel for 14 days, which seems like awesome value. Was thinking about going 2 Vegas about mid June - July at some point for a couple of weeks. Any1 got any idea how much this would cost if booked at the last minute, also how much would a decent hotel cost for the 2 weeks? If non poker players are going is there plenty of touristy type stuff to do outside of casinos? Sent from iPhone if there's any typos!

Yeah check that thread and ask there but I think last minute flights to Vegas are like £800 return plus the cost of hotel on top.

There's millions of things to do there that isn't poker or gambling
