Apart from the bad food, tatty rooms, air conditioning fails and Legionnaire's, is there any issue with staying at the Rio.  I think I should do it once, and given the prices elsewhere, this could be the year.

Only other consideration is how often you intend to travel to other hotels. If you are playing away most days would rather stay cheaper(ie, Luxor/TI types) on the strip than pay all the taxis to stay in a shithole.

There are 3 WSOP events in 7 days when I am there, so should be expecting a saving in taxis, unless I just need to get out of the shithole.  I can normally get the Wynn for not much more than the Rio; this year it is more than double even with Wynn insider/Red Card discount.

There are obvious advantages in satying at the Rio too.  I don't have far to go on dinner breaks, and given the brutal 3pm starts, the nearer the room is, the better.

I could just stay at the Wynn midweek, and move to the Rio at the weekend.

Hi doobs
Think you know the score already looking at your own comments .
I’ve stayed there the last few trips there now for convenience:

Pluses
Close to action be it big mtts of the trip or cash games on demand .
Value that dinner break in room big time especially if run good and make 2nd day etc .
Gym / spa / pool ok and I do use at least one of them daily if I’m in a good routine on a trip , love the steam room in spa though it’s hit and miss whether it’s working .

Negatives
Food options
Horrible casino to gamble in and spend time at a bar - I rarely do this much any more so never been that big an issue for me .
Room - meh but I only use it for sleeping or napping in .  Only plus is do get a small fridge .

Taxi to/from strip - obv depends where playing whether this costs or saves money on the overall trip .

If you don’t intend to play cash games at Rio I can see it being a close choice for you so may be consider other hotel for weekdays like you said.

Good luck , hope above helps .  Not sure if I’m going yet this year , not rushing and will decide in next few months .  Might end up a short trip to cover same mtts you probably are eying up .

Thanks.   I think I have it settled now.   The Wynn is quieter in the week, so it is much easier to take advantage of the better food optons.  At the weekend, if you time it badly, there are big queues and tables get full.  I normally get as far away as I can from the beach club. but moving to the Rio will definitely solve the noise issue! I am not really arsed about most gambling, though the Wynn poket room is obviously nicer.

Jockey club is not good, and connected to Cosmo.

Cheesy

I know a couple people that stayed there who said it was alright. It's not the Cosmo, but you get access too all the Cosmo amenites, and the location is obviously good.

50th Annual World Series of Poker® Announces Final Pod of Live Events for 2019

New Events Include “SALUTE to Warriors” Charity Event
& Deep Stack Championship with an Added Main Event Seat

Ten Deep Stack Gold Bracelet Events under $1,000 Price Point on Schedule;
Plus Weekly Pot-Limit Omaha & Seniors Deep Stack Events Added

LAS VEGAS (Jan. 30, 2019) – While many think of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) as a high stakes affair only for high rollers or professionals, the truth of the matter is the modern day WSOP is an inclusive, all-encompassing poker tournament series for all poker enthusiasts, including the masses.

The WSOP caters to all gaming and competitive mind sport fans, regardless of budget, time commitment restrictions or level of experience.

There really is something for everyone at the WSOP, and with the final pod of gold bracelet events confirmed, a slew of low buy-in, short-duration deep stack events complete the 2019 iteration of the WSOP to be held May 28 to July 16 at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

View this year’s schedule here: http://www.wsop.com/tournaments/

A half-dozen $600-$800 No-Limit Hold’em, Pot-Limit Omaha, or a mixture of both have been added to this year’s schedule, culminating with a Deepstack Championship event on Tuesday, June 25 at 11am, featuring a $600 buy-in, 30,000 in starting chips, a $500,000 prize pool guarantee, and an added WSOP Main Event seat to the winner.

Additionally, a new charity event has been added honoring military service members.  “SALUTE to Warriors” No-Limit Hold’em is a $500 buy-in gold bracelet event starting Tuesday, July 2 at 11am, with a 25,000 starting chip stack and 40-minute levels.  This three-day event will conclude on July 4, Independence Day in the U.S., with proceeds from this event to be donated to the USO and other veteran organizations.  This event is open to all, with active military and veterans encouraged to participate in this first-ever event of its kind at the WSOP.

“We hope everyone who loves the game of poker comes out to experience our big 50th,” said WSOP Vice President Jack Effel.  “We are confident you will find an event or two to your liking, and hopefully one that allows you to raise the gold bracelet over your head at the end of it.”

In addition to the new gold bracelet events, the popular one-day, non-bracelet deep stack series of events is set to return in 2019, with a couple added weekly offerings.  Daily, the Rio will spread the $250 1pm No-Limit Hold’em event, the $200 4pm No-Limit Hold’em event, the $400 7pm Accelerated Format No-Limit Hold’em event and the 10pm $150 Accelerated Format No-Limit Hold’em event.  All these one-day tournament offerings will run from May 28-July 16 daily, (with a few exceptions when large-field gold bracelet events limit capacity). All these events will use the Big Blind Ante format

New this year on one-day deep stack events are a weekly Pot-Limit Omaha variant and a Seniors (50+age) specific offering.  The $250 Pot-Limit Omaha deep stack will run every Sunday from June 2 to July 14 at 5pm.  Seniors deep stack day will be Wednesdays, with a 9am weekly $250 buy-in one day deep stack tournament running from May 28 to July 10.  Below is the complete list of deep stack tournament offerings at this year’s WSOP, priced under $1,000.

Thanks for the link, looks very useful.  When I've been looking fairly intensely in the past (I'm talking about CC in hand, ready to snap-book when the dates align) I've certainly experienced multiple availability changes within-day.  £3 not to have to do that is fantastic.

I'm a Rush Tower soldier until the 30th/1st, and moving to Vdara for the last 10 nights.

Wynn has an app you can play for free nights, just pinging slots etc. Not worked out if it's worth buying chips to see if you can spin up a few free nights. There are no restrictions on weekends, just more expensive for rooms, and you cna stack 4 nights if you've enough 'jewels'

If I have a good Chelts, I might chuck £100 at it and see how I get on.

Might duck this.   I dare say I'll blow more than £100 and chase.

Palazzo didn't look too bad, then I realised that with the resort fee, the price wasn't much different.   $51 resort fee once the tax is added.   Then the cheaper rate (£180 total incl resort fee cheap?) is only available at a couple of sites I don't recognise.

There is a huge difference in costs this year as virgin points have less value, so instead of tax only in premium economy, I am paying around double that amount for economy delight, and could well pay more for a worse room.

We need a sterling recovery pretty damn quickly.

Halfway to 4 free nights on that Wynn app, so looks like I'll be staying there, and paying for the other 5 @ £800.

how long do you have to play and/or how much did you have to deposit?   Seems like you can grind free nights without using dollars.  Could get my kids to work, sure getting them addicted to slots can't do them any harm...
