Is it White City?

If it is I used to go there most Fridays and usually bet with Tony Morris.

I miss the eel bar too. Mmmmm jellied eels.

Is CORRECT.

Try this one now, for a bonus point......

Could it possibly be Park Royal? Tony Morris had a pitch there too where I first met him.

There was so much greyhound racing a few years ago.

Stamford Bridge, Wembley, White City, Park Royal, and Catford all raced at least a couple of times per week and they were just in Greater London.

When did hats for gentlemen go out of fashion?

Also, is it Coventry?

I noticed turf in the White City photo.. how long ago did they stop using turf for greyhound racing?  I can't remember ever seeing it.

Turf was common back in the day. Eventually, it was replaced by sand. Turf tracks caused so many injuries to the dogs, as their feet would often "snag" in the earth when it was firm.

It was difficult to maintain a fair surface in the winter, too, & "trap bias" was huge as a result.

It was a London track, but not one of those.

You missed a good few actually - Hackney, Hendon (now the site of Brent Cross Shopping Centre), Crayford (maybe not Greater London?), Wandsworth, Haringey. Only Walthamstow survived until recently, & Wimbledon (now pretty shoddy & run-down) is the last remaining, presumably.

I went here (Hackney Wick) every Saturday & Sunday mornings, the place was full of right characters, dodgy types, villains, proper sorts.

Whilst discussing corner stats, I find this website one of the best to use;

http://www.simplesoccerstats.com/Console2.html

It has all corner/cards stats for all the domestic(prem,champ,lge1 and lge2) and all major european leagues going back about 5 years.

Relatively basic, but its accurate, free and ease to use.

Thanks Mr Fellaini, that is spot on.

Are you looking forward to next Monday's match? (Everton v Newcastle). Should be quite a game.

Hope that website proves useful.

Yes I will be there on Monday night. I always fancy us a bit more strongly when its a night match at Goodison Park, it seems to raise the level of performance amongst the players. Hopefully Newcastle may have one eye on an away Europa lge fixture 3 days later.

Mr Fellaini has let me down recently with quotes(which he has since retracted) suggesting he ready to leave as early as January. Lets hope thats not the case, as I dont fancy changing my avatar until at least the summer.

Going back to grass-surfaced greyhound tracks, I seem to recall that some tracks had grass on the straights, & sand on the bends. As you can imagine, with grass, the inside line on the bends got badly cut up, & was soon mud. It was forever being replaced with new turf, but never had time to bind properly, so would "slip". Injuries to the dogs toes & hocks were commonplace, they happened at every meeting.

I'm a regular at Wimbledon dogs, owing largely to (a) its proximity to my gaff and (b) the fact I own a dog with a chap I used to work with. I love it there.

So disappointing to see it struggle. I think the greatest shame comes in the predictability and hopelessness of it all. It'll be gone soon and replaced by a(nother) multiplex cinema and affordable housing. Marvelous.

I think you are correct, the place is so run down & dilapidated now. Hard to see how they even cover costs.

Hopefully you are wrong - AFC Wimbledon are bidding to return home with a stadium on the site. My fingers are well and truly crossed...

How ethical is it that bookies are taking bets on things that can't possibly win. The X factor boot camp took place in Liverpool in July and the field was cut to 24 and then the 6 contestants in each of the 4 groups were then reduced to 3 each at the end of August. Yet looking at odds checker this morning you can bet on over 40 contestants.

A fool and their money and all that.  Kinda like the mugs who backed Mardle to win a darts tourno he can't even qualify for....

Rugby League Saturday 15th Leeds Rhinos v Wakefield Trinity

I am not sure if I am either an outstandingly good odds compiler for rugby league or the betting  industry employs complete bozos to price up this market. Leeds should be favourites for this match as they have home advantage, which is a huge plus in this sport, and a larger squad with the better players. They also have a reputation for winning crucial matches, hence they are the super league and world champions. But Sky go 1-8 for Leeds. Sheer lunacy. I decided on Sunday that I would be happy to back Wakefield at 2-1 or bigger and we can certainly get that.

As we saw last week with their capitulation to Huddersfield, there is something wrong in the Leeds camp. To lose a local derby in that manner with a man advantage would have me as the coach reaching for the cattle prod in training. I advised you to back Wakefield @ 5-1 to beat Leeds at Headingly last time when they lost 44-40. I  backed Wakefield last time they played Leeds at home when they beat them 38-18 at odds of 4-1.

I recommend you  back Wakefield Trinity £20 @ 4-1 with Paddy Power. For those of you stealing Fred's price before he has finished his nap could you please use Sky Bet and take the 9-2. You should also have a £5 saver on the draw on this occasion @ 25-1.

A word of caution to you all though. I am aware of the recent success I have had tipping rugby league games but Wakefield winning this will be more of a shock than any of the previous results, so do not go throwing all your profits away. Keep the stakes the same as before.
