1. Hull City v Barnsley in the FA Cup

Just quietly Barnsley have begun to turn round their form, two home wins (Leeds and Burnley) followed by an away draw at Ipswich, coinciding with David Flitcroft taking over from Keith Hill

Simultaneously Hull are a bit off the boil. Losing at home to Sheff Wed (which I watched, and Hull were very lacklustre), needing an away replay to beat Orient and losing their top scorer Aluko to an 8 week layoff during this period. On home soil, Hull have enjoyed just one win in their last four games, drawing two and losing one.

Hull's priority has to be promotion, and while I don't know what team Bruce will select, I wouldn't be surprised to see a player or two changed.

I don't know if Barnsley's partial recovery will be ongoing, but at over 4-1 to win tomorrow I'll have a go that it might be, with a saver on the draw at nearly 3-1

We know that for teams in this division, almost every team can beat almost every other on their day, and I'd expect that to be magnified in the cup

Barnsley to beat Hull 17/4, cover Barnsley to draw at Hull 11/4 (something like £25 Barnsley, £10 the draw)

2 Coventry at Preston

Coventry are nearly 2-1 to win at Preston. Mark Robins has of course really turned Coventry round and they are now challenging for the play offs. Graham Westley has not had the same impact at Preston. In part because his style -  pressing, physical - needs a certain type of player to implement and he doesn't have the flexibility to implement that in terms of budget/funding at this stage

Preston have not won at home since beating Yeovil on the 29th September - a run of nine matches ( L4).

Coventry lost their last away match at Carlisle, breaking a six match away winning streak.

Coventry a very sporting price to me, 2-1 available in a couple of places

Afternoon Mr T.

Tonight England Saxons play Irish Wolfhounds, essentially a 2nd XV match. The Irish side is packed with experience with a large number of them hoping to get into the 6 nations side this year. None of the English team are in the senior squad and have an average age of 24, many of them don't even start for their club side. It will be very cold and wet tonight and the English will hate it. The Saxons have a history of failure in these sorts of matches having lost this fixture 2 years ago and to Scotland A last year by 30 points.

I can't find the fixture on Oddschecker so a better price may be available to you but Ireland to win by more than 3 points is the call.

£25 Irish Wolfhounds -3 points @ 10/11 Betfred.

Daily Report as @ 1510, Friday January 25th (covering 2 days)

We have had 2 bad days, 4 completed bets all lost, for a Loss of £185.

Although we usually strike the sheet at 6am, to include overnight NFL, NBA & MLB, I have included today's Federer Tennis bet in these numbers, as may as well get all the bad news in one go.

England lost to India (-£40), Finn fell short, a shade unluckily (-£25), Ottoman Empire crumbled, given too much to do, (-£20) & Federer, in a wonderfully close game which swung & swong, was unable to best Mr Murray, on Burns Day (-£100).

To add to the woes, I was offline from 6pm last night & narrowly missed Ed's £70 winner, which would have stemmed the bleeding.

In CBB news, having greened Rylan @ 1.5 (we were on at 7/4) so we are on £125 to nothing, his price has gone to an astonishing 1/6. I have no idea when CBB finishes, presumably it will be dragged out for what will seem like another 17 years.

In the ANC, Zambia play today, v Nigeria, & we have Zambia's Katonga in the Leading Goalscorer market. They drew 1-1 in their opener, but Katonga was not amongst the scorers.

We don't appear to have much on today, or this weekend, though some FA Cup interest is likely.

Afternoon h.

We could use a winner to get back on track, & that looks a good place to start.

-3 @ 10/11 is best price, quoted in several spots, though Ladbrokes go -5, & some go -4.

The Oddschecker page is here, for those interested.......

http://www.oddschecker.com/rugby-union/internationals/ireland-v-england-a/handicaps

We have £22 (I reduced it slightly as we like round numbers that old folks can calculate easily) @ 10/11, Blue Square, the, err, Wolfhounds to beat the Saxons.

Thanks Rich.

Can you suggest a stake for the Coventry bet please? I can guess a figure, but your stake size is key as I know you recommend according to the strength of view you hold. I'm assuming it is a speculative £20 or thereabouts, but will await your reply.

I could not get the 17/4 Barnsley with Bet365, as they restricted me to £11.76.

Instead, we went to BetVictor, 4/1, but they go best price the Draw, 14/5, so we got a bit back.

We have £25 on Barnsley to beat Hull, 4/1, BetVictor.

We also have £10 the Draw, 14/5, BetVictor.

On the proposed Coventry bet by Tighty, we can currently get 2/1 with William Hill.....

I know the difference is marginal but why did you not take the £11.76 with 365?

i have heard from within the preston camp that the westley effect may finally be dropping with the squad

i like the loan signing of connolly from leeds a vastly experienced right back and a good leader

i have had a small bet on preston have seen coventry a few times in recent weeks and despite the results they have not impressed me to much to be honest

You are probably right Ralph, but I'm flat out on catch up after a day Offline, & it just seemed a lot of time & effort to split the bet between 2 bookies, then Vince has to enter it on the Spready twice, da de da.

PS - decoded = too lazy probably. Wink
