http://www.oddschecker.com/christmas/christmas-day-tv-ratings/top-programme

per chompy

last year

"BBC1 comedy Mrs Brown's Boys is the surprise winner of the Christmas Day TV ratings battle, with traditional favourite EastEnders suffering a 1.6 million viewer slump to record its lowest-rating festive edition in at least a decade.

Peter Capaldi's debut in Doctor Who and Danny Dyer's arrival in Albert Square were rival attractions, but Brendan O'Carroll's occasionally foul-mouthed Agnes and her brood proved the nation's Christmas favourite, attracting 9.4 million viewers and a 35.5% share of audience in its slot.

It is the first time the BBC has scheduled Mrs Brown's Boys on Christmas Day, with the decision providing the show with its highest-ever viewing figures, eclipsing the 9 million who tuned in on Boxing Day last year.

Doctor Who was the second most popular show, attracting an average of 8.3 million viewers,"

year before

"EastEnders took the top spot in the consolidated Christmas Day ratings, more than a million viewers ahead of its nearest rival, ITV1's Downton Abbey.

It was sweet revenge for the Albert Square soap, which last year saw its overnight Christmas Day lead wiped out by the Julian Fellowes drama when the consolidated figures were released.

EastEnders had 11.31 million viewers, a 34.3% share of the audience, in the newly released figures which include so-called "timeshifted" viewing by households watching over the following seven days on personal video recorders such as Sky+.

EastEnders also topped the Christmas Day overnight ratings, averaging 9.4 million viewers on the day.

ITV1's Downton Abbey was the second-most watched show of the Christmas Day schedule once timeshifted viewing is added, with 10.28 million viewers, a 31.6% share. "

this was the 4th year on the trot eastenders had won it

5/4 the hideous mrs browns should be odds on?

In the first at Ascot  there is a fav that might be worth taking on and a reasonable e/w shape to the race. If you take the view that Tourard Man's narrow margin of victory over out of form Jonjo's  Mackerye End lto is not the strongest form - might be worth opposing with either or both of Wizards Bridge or Rascal (Tizzard in good form and Skelton we now know is favoured by Neil)
Not suggesting he approves the bet, but would love to hear his (or anyone else's) opinion if he is reading. Doubt we lose much by waiting a while just in case of non-runner.

Had a bit more of a look at this and feel I'll have to have a e/w bet on Absolute Bygones @ 16-1 based on strong staying and form with American Life

not the other two?

strength of conviction is fair/high/ballistic? (so i can size the bet)

Have done all 3 myself, fav still strongly supported tho, so  prob keep to min stakes

At the risk of Fred backing the entire field, when does Garde Le Victoire become worth a bet?

Top weight and drifting like Joey Essex's mind watching a Brian Cox programme.

Only 3lb more than Clondaw Warrior (half the price and seemingly well-handicapped) for a comfortable beating at Chelters. Red bloke gives 5 places 1/4 odds for 14/1.

Any snorts of derision?

Absolutely think Mrs Brown should be odds-on. Favourites are usually good in these markets and there's no reason why Eastenders will suddenly pick up more viewers. It's not exactly an unexposed 3yo making its handicap debut.

Miranda is terrible. And no Citizen Khan Xmas special scheduled, so think we're safe. Might even watch it and fistpump every one of Brendan's classic lines.

Have an eighty ball on this one.

It's hard to imagine a show worse than MBB, but Auntie somehow managed to commission one.

I watched the Comedy Awards last night and I had no idea MBB was a radio show, several books and a long-running stage play long before the TV show. Been going over 20 years. I assume they weren't allowed to show the funny bits in the TV show.

Top Christmas Day TV Programme Mrs Browns Boys (Outright - Outright) Odds: 5/4 Stake: 80.00 Possible Return:  180.00

it really is an odd one. last xmas (i gave you my heart) i watched it because the kids mum likes it. She roared her way through it as if it was the second coming of morecambe and wise/monty python/derek and clive, while i sat there stony faced downing the ferrero rocher at every increasing rates

i can't help but feel that if mrs browns boys had been around 20 years ago and we had watched it pre-nuptials, i would have saved myself a fair amount of hassle

Undeterred by last weeks poor efforts here, I have stuck up another few Scottish selections on the other thread.  Some I like more than others

Motherwell @ 5/2 with VC is more out of line than the general 9/4.  I made Well 15/8 for this one.  £10 is fine.

Stranraer @ 5/2 away to Dunfermline with 365 if we can again £10 is about right here.

Queens Park @ 19/20 playing at home to Annan.  £20 minimum on this.

Should be fine, would prefer half a mile less.  Offer should make up for it.  Think we only need 5 for the offer.
