McIlroy shoots first round 68 and sits 3 off the lead. Doesn't look like a hole in 1 has happened so far either.

Correct.

Ooh, weighed in. Just 3 days to go now.

I believe all the par are complete on day 2 and we are still in the game.

Incred, Antigua and Barbuda have Dexter Blackstock, Mikele Leigertwood, Marc Joseph and super Marvin McCoy playing!

If the others are anywhere near as good as those 4 +3 @ 2.45 looks a very good bet.

They are not  but they do play together week in and out so hopefully they should be able to play as a unit.

Finished Antigua 1-3 USA, congrats Stu, good bet for the thread.

2.45 seemed massive too, played out as more of an evens shot.

Bumping This...for a Tikay & Blonde reminder

Quote from: Horneris on June 08, 2012, 01:56:07 PM
Seems a very risky proposition to me, what price do you make Carroll to start? He is outsider on Betfair and twitter this morning was raving about Welbeck's finishing in training.

Let me try and answer in full...

4 strikers  Rooney,Carroll.Defoe ,Wellbeck

Rooney suspended for 2 matches and Defoe not 1st choice and obviously not in best frame of mind after losing his father

If you look on the betfair "to start" market there is no liquidity at all so you cant use this as guidance  (in fact people are wanting to back Carroll at 2.5...and welbeck only has money for him at 3.25 which would indicate Carroll starts )

http://sports.betfair.com/football/market?id=1.105837845&exp=e

and the same can be said of betfairs top english goalscorer market which has Carroll and welbeck near on price but again not enough money to use for guidance

http://sports.betfair.com/football/market?id=1.105472940&exp=e

My man reckons it will be Carroll and the shirt No9 would indicate the same...but regardless even if he does come off the bench 15 -2 is still plenty big enough and represents a decent value bet

I would make it as high as 75/25% Carroll over Wellbeck  (no bets before you ask just my opinion) If so Carroll is defintely  too big at 15-2

I haven't looked at the detail Fraser, but doesn't Young have to be factored in? Will play every game, somewhere in a top 3, possibly as support striker to one up top. Scores goals, decent player....

Agree with you 100% Rich...the 15-2 still seems very big ,  accounting for Young and most other factor (I can think of )

Been told by a German friend that Mario Gomez will NOT start in tonights game (needs confirming, but he said 100% he isnt starting)

S0 laying Gomez to score at anytime should be good value if it true..... currently 2.84 (to lay)

Sorry Fraser what reasons do you have to think it is Carroll? It seems you are saying both markets can't be used as a guide and then just says my man thinks it will be Carroll.
As I said yesterday I think it will be Welbeck mainly due to friendly performance and link up with Ashley Young but I'm far from sure.
I'd certainly like to know what factors make it 75:25 to Carroll. I reckon it's closer than that. It seems like nobody really knows. Welbeck is shorter for top scorer at top price but more bookies are shorter on Carroll than they are on Welbeck.
Also if he isn't first choice then depending on Welbeck's performances he might not play much at all with Rooney coming back into the mix after the 2nd game.

I think Carroll will start too but only because a long-ball game appears to be England's best tactical option.

To add balance in the Carroll/Welbeck debate

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/euro2012/article-2156627/Euro-2012-Englands-Danny-Welbeck-start-France.html

Carroll went to Auschwitz yesterday as well. Reports were that no one who was likely to start excluding Joe Hart would be going there as the journey could take a physical toll on the players.

I think its going to be Welbeck...

Dont apologise...its a forum...I have no more information than that which I posted.

Only the manager really knows so we will just have to wait and see

To add balance in the Carroll/Welbeck debate

Quote
Seven players joined Hodgson on the 70km journey from their tournament base in Krakow. Wayne Rooney and Andy Carroll, Theo Walcott and Phil Jagielka, Joe Hart, Jack Butland and Leighton Baines.
With them was FA chairman David Bernstein and other officials. The players went in casual wear after consultation with the sports science and medical team, who wanted them in comfortable outfits ahead of Monday's opening game.

I know i'm quoting the daily fail here but Martin Samuels and Matt Lawton both said about no starting team players were likely to go except Joe Hart.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/euro2012/article-2156476/Euro-2012-England-players-visit-Auschwitz-Oskar-Schindler-Factory-museum.html

In this article Lawton says

Quote
Walking between the bleak, brown brick buildings at Auschwitz on Friday, I took the opportunity to tell Hodgson about his predecessor.
'I didn't know that,' said England's manager. 'Shocking. Really shocking.'

So he was with the England Manager the day before. Then the next day publishes news about Welbeck starting.
