If only Ladbrokes were going 1/4 1,2,3 in SPOTY market.

I would max out every credit card to back Ennis each way at 7/2.

More than 10 makes a massive difference, not least because you end up spreading the market. Tennis fans vote for Murray; cycling fans are already split between Wiggins, Hoy and Pendleton (in that order IMO).

Just don't see there being more than 4 of 10 cyclists, especially as we have other sports winning golds this time around. Trott being the most likely owner of the fourth spot.

Voters don't pick the 10 so cycling fans aren't split until after the 10 are decided.

I'd say the men have 6 positions tied up already. The women 2.

who is the sixth bloke?
Murray, Farah, Wiggins, Hoy, Ainslie, Kenny. Trott & Ennis for the girls.

thanks

I don't have Kenny a lock. I have Pendleton close to one

I have Nicola Adams a lock

Fascinating to see what everyone thinks

If you want a small bet, you have Kenny making the top 10, I'll take Pendleton, I'm all ears.

No bet if both (or neither) make it.

I think Pendleton will make it too. I'd probably have Brownlee ahead of Adams and rowers. Daley and Reade better known and would  enter the mix if they win gold.

Yeah, I'd lay Kenny - just think he won't make it, his mrs will - she really caught the public imagination, Hoy and Wiggins next as locks and if they go with a 4th cyclist it's Vic

The more I think of it, the more sure I am they'll just include every gold medalist.

To leave out a double gold medalist (Du jardin) would cause uproar among the horsey brigade and Clare Balding.. and leaving out Grainger would be tough too.

Put em all in and let the public decide.

I love Ennis at 7/2 more and more. Hopefully Mo Farah doesn't win the 5000 to split the athletics vote.

Because the cycling vote is going to be all over the place.

I just can't see the Tour De France getting any prominence whatsoever in the show.

BBC had the Olympics and 3/4 of the show will focus on it.

What about somone like Rory McIlroy currently leads the PGA, we have the ryder cup still to come later in the year. Has become a personality both side of the Atlantic.

Good point, the Ryder cup

Do we think they might expand the shortlist up from 10 this year?!

This is a good shout.

Might put every Olympic gold medalist in the list.

Would make enormous sense

Ladbrokes 100-1 over 7 women

We have 15 Women Gold medalists

http://www.oddschecker.com/specials/awards/sports-personality-of-the-year/total-women-on-top-10-shortlist

Market will be void if more than 10 nominees.

spoilsport.

What's your top ten 'Vice?

After laying Wiggins @ 1.75 on Fred's behalf and then watching him shorten to 1.17, I don't feel qualified to comment.
I don't even know what the deadline date for the shortlist is.

Things to come include:
Paralympics
Ryder Cup
Cricket T20 World Cup (although I can't see much arising out of this)
End of Formula 1 season on November 25th

Murray has chances to improve at the US Open and the ATP Tour Finals (which are held in London).

Not much else that I can see:

Paralympics, good chance of getting a nomination if they make it the usual top 10. Not sure what they'll do if they include all gold medallists. Maybe all paralympic gold medallists too? Altho that will give us a huge list.

McIlroy would have to win the USPGA and perform heroics in the Ryder Cup to be even remotely considered.

Forget F1 and cricket for this year. No chance imo.

If Rory wins the PGA and has a good Ryder cup he WILL be on the shortlist imo.

Obv this is a pretty big long shot, but this would be a high profile achievement and would add some non olympic related person to the shortlist.

I'm loving Jessica too at 7/2, so many good points made - whist I think the stamp thing may be a throw away comment - think it sort of sums up mood. She is so popular across all the voters and truly has mass appeal while the cycling vote will be split, don't care what anyone says. It's funny that we are having a discussion where our greatest ever Olympian is 14/1 and not even mentioned....it will be a very interesting betting proposition

Definitely wasn't a throwaway comment!

Perfect illustration of how popular she is.
