In case you missed it, this was by Tal......

30-1 seemed to me to be attractive. I say "attractive". I mean night club across the dancefloor attractive. She looks good from 20 feet away in punctured darkness, with a fine sweat-mist between you, creating a moderate haze. She might be Sienna Miller but she could also be Stephen Miller. That kind of attractive.

Epic. Sick. Hero.

World T20 Daily report

We're underway, and in early skirmishes the might of Afghanistan and Ireland, fetching in blue, took on India and Australia

We might have expected both to be one sided affairs, and indeed Australia dispatched Ireland for 125 and knocked them off in 15 overs

For our portfolio, Australia scored 3 sixes, all by Watson.

However India had it less their own way, and in the end won by 23 runs with our man Kohli scoring 50 to keep us in the early running for the top batsman bet

Afghanistan with four sixes tied with India four sixes. A gallant performance and a very decent spot at 11/2 by the erudite AndrewT, who took a short break from shopping for flowery shirts in the Kings Road long enough to spot some value.

At least now the thread is well versed in backing Afghanistan, something that no doubt will hold it in good stead in a variety of sports in the months to come, such is the breadth of Afghan betting opportunities these days

Today the Southern Africa Grudge match comes to Hambantota

South Africa v Zimbabwe, Hambantota (15:00 BST)

Not the best betting medium http://www.oddschecker.com/cricket/international/twenty20-world-cup/south-africa-v-zimbabwe

Aaron1867 expects South Africa to win, and therefore expect the recomendation shortly.

Here's Hambamtota stadium only two years ago, built at a cost of $7.86m

and here it is now

Hambantota, a Candidate City for Commonwealth Games in 2018, is on the South East Coast of Sri Lanka and is one of the poorest areas in Sri Lanka but being rapidly modernised into a commercial port.

The cricket ground was very much a case of "build it and they will come". Well not yet they haven't, it holds 35,000 and has yet to fill a fraction of that. Very much a case of political ambition overcoming common sense when this was buil, but thats often the case in sporting administration in cricket.

Our position so far on the tournament - £20

Portfolio in play is  £102.20

Comprised of:

Malinga, Top Sri Lanka Bowler, £40 @ 15/8, maldini32. Under the cosh thanks to the Mendae

Australia to score MOST SIXES, £20 @ 11/2, hector. Brighter days ahead

Virat Kohli, Top Batsman £20 @ 16/1, Dung.  A useful 50 to kick him off

Dilshan, batter with most sixes, £6.10 EW @ 80/1, maldini. Valoo.

Dilshan, batter with most sixes, £5 EW @ 66/1, maldini. Valoo.

Daily Report as @ 0920, Thursday September 20th

We made a loss of £65 yesterday, & hung on to blue ink for September by the slenderest of margins.

If we can hang around break-even, that's not so bad, one nice result will do the job. Or one bad result.

We placed 4 new bets yesterday, two of which completed.

In all, 5 bets completed yesterday, with 4 losers, & a solitary winner. That one winner produced a £110 swing, glory be for that.

I had felt a little sillly/nitty only having £20 on Celtic, but it turned out to be the right wrong thing to do.

Chelsea looked home & hosed for a £90 bink, but it went pear-shaped thanks to a very impressive Old Lady, so £40 went south.

Small sums went awry in Cycling & T20WC, too, though the Afghanistan Sixes bet was shown to be terrific value, & we so nearly got there.

The sole winner was horsey with his Valencia bookings bet, which gave us a nervous hour before easing home as a 4/7 shot should. Phew.

For trivia geeks - & we have a few - yesterday's Fred interests covered quite a range of sports & geographical locations. 25 years or so ago, the Internet was not available to the wider public, & Online global betting from the comforts of our armchair was impossible. The world has changed so much, so quickly. This was yesterday's range.....

Cycling

F1 Motor Racing

Football

Cricket (of sorts).

The venues for which were.....

England

Scotland

Sri Lanka

Holland

Singapore.

Today, we shall very probably "visit" America & Portugal. What an amazing thing the the internet is.

I just don't see it. How can you enjoy a Boycott playing the forward defensive shot for 3 days more than the Gayle  types breaking the fingers and noses of guys in the crowd over estimating their ability to catch a cricket ball. Huh?

What's coming up?

MCC has taken care of today's somewhat tepid T20WC action.

The Fed Ex Golf thing, more correctly “Tour Championship”,  starts today…..

http://www.oddschecker.com/golf/tour-championship/tour-championship-by-coca-cola/winner/all

In Europe’s version of the Johnstone Paint Trophy, The Europa League, a trio of English interests, note that two of them start at 6pm.

Maritimo host Newcastle, we have several recommends for the home team…..

http://www.oddschecker.com/football/europa-league/maritimo-v-newcastle/winner

Spurs entertain – if that be the word – Lazio at WHL…..

http://www.oddschecker.com/football/europa-league/tottenham-v-lazio/winner

Liverpool, meanwhile, take on some lads……

http://www.oddschecker.com/football/europa-league/young-boys-v-liverpool/winner

I’ve always been intrigued by that Team name – “Young Boys”, so I’ve been googling.

The correct name is “Berner Sports Club Young Boys 1898”, which is a bit of a mouthful to fit on betting coupons, they also go by the moniker of “Young Boys Bern”.

They are Swiss, & their Stadium is solar powered, in fact the solar power generated supplies half of the local town with electricity. Football powering the Community & all that.

The Team never have a “number 2” Shirt, for reasons I cannot quite fathom.

Due to the oddly named town in which they are based, you rarely see the team & location in the same sentence. “Young Boys Wankdorf” might be too tempting for some.

Have got myself quite excited about Saturday’s coupon as there seems to be decent investments in numerous places.  I’ve already tipped up Tranmere at Crawley (who are now 11/4 which I can’t fathom) so I’ll just put the other 3 up for discussion.  If the thread can chew over the cud on these ones and let me know their thoughts it would be appreciated.

Palace v Cardiff

Cardiff are in good nick, I accept that, and were excellent in beating Millwall at the Den on Tuesday, but I can’t be having Palace at 11/5 at home.  The started wretchedly but in the last 3 games have beaten Sheff Wed and Charlton and then drew at home to Forest where Forest equalised late on.  Despite their opponents good form I think Palace are too big a price to keep their momentum going.

Wigan v Fulham
I like the look of Wigan at 7/5 in this one, and it is based purely on Fulham’s horrid away form this season and last.  They have had 3 away engagements this term and lost all 3.  I know they have brought in Berbatov, but not sure he will fancy an away game where he won’t see much of the ball.  I’d suggest Wigan would win this game about half the time if you ran it 100 times, so I think 7/5 is a spot of value.

Swansea v Everton

Is it just me or are Everton being over rated by the bookies at the moment?  They have been installed as warm favourites for a trip to high flying Swansea who have been impressive apart from a blip at Villa last time out.  Jelavic is out for Everton and he’s an important player for them.  Everton were a similar price for their trip to WBA a couple of weeks back and lost 2-0, so I think the hosts are eminently backable at 2/1.

Three excellent suggestions, thanks.

We are nearly at the stage of the season when we can begin betting properly, so any feedback on these would be appreciated. Happy to go with all three if any warmth or encouragement is shown.

RE: Young Boys and no squad number 2.

Wikipedia states they do not assign the number 2, but do not explain why. Later on the same page they list the current squad, including Alexander Gonzalez at number 2.

The Young Boys website includes a squad list too, also with Alexander Gonzalez at number 2. http://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=de&u=http://www.bscyb.ch/&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dyoung%2Bboys%2Bbern%26hl%3Den%26prmd%3Dimvnsu&sa=X&ei=491aUJ31KZCY1AWNjYGYCw&ved=0CCYQ7gEwAA

The internet lied to me!

Thanks for that bit of research. These little sports oddities are lovely.

Bobby1 wrote earlier about "12" in a certain NFL Team, too, most amusingly.

Carolina ht-ft is a derived price and it has been derived from a time when NYG were favourites by 1. They are now 2.5 pt dogs. It should be 13/8 or possibly 6/4. Smidge of value at 2/1 I think, although I would say that injuries to players who aren't the QB in American football are vastly over-compensated for by the recreational punters who dominate the market.

I made the win at h-t lines 5/6 CP 8/1 tie and 5/4 NYG.

The trouble with MCC's excellent summary is that it makes me want to bet on every match and every market. However I shall restrain myself and stick to one market today. I was interested in backing the bearded one to be top batsman for South Africa but the price of 11/4 is not appealing. So I had a bit of a think and looked at another way of supporting him. In the market for Man of the match we can get 5-1. We have to assume that SA will win and as long as the wickets are spread about then it is likely to be awarded to the top batsman. In their match against India Zimbabwe won the toss and chose to field so the expectation is that whoever wins the toss that SA will bat and may struggle to get the bearded one out. We saw how good Amla was during the summer so form etc is not a worry.

Recommend Mr Amla to be MOTM £20 @ 5-1 Lads, Hills , PP.

Hi Hector - do you not think it is worth taking the bowlers out of the equation and having Amla at 11/4?  It only takes the Zims to be unable to handle a few overs of Steyn or Morkel, or for the Zims to set a target of 100 and you have no chance of Amla getting MOM?  At least if just top bat and they are chasing a small target it will be a match bet between Amla and Levi?
