Watching Justin Pipe play makes you want to slash your wrists.

So painful, I nearly want Kevin Painter to beat him.

I would not go that far, but he is a little deliberate.......

Painter puts me in mind of Barry Neville for some reason.

The thing with Pipe is that he's probably just a bit slower than Dennis Priestley but nearly everyone loves Dennis yet their's no Love for Pipe.
If we had another 2 Players in the top 10 that played at this pace their would be a handful of Tournaments on Tv.

Re Pipe

It's quite ridic imo that anyone thinks they have a right to moan when they play him. He is a slow player, what is he supposed to do, quicken up to suit them?

Nick Faldo always makes a great point re slow play in golf, if the other guy is playing slowly but well within the rules and the allowed time and it is annoying you then it is you that owns the problem, not the guy that is playing slower than you want him to play.

Its the same with Pipe, I don't understand what the relevance  is in how quickly he throws the darts.

I don't see players moaning, its the spectators who are.  The reason being is its a spectator friendly game that is supposed to provide entertainment and there is absolutely no need to take 1 minute to throw 3 darts.  As snowball says if there were more players playing like that darts would never be on the tv.

Well the most public one would be Newton. Didn't he apologise for the way he handled himself in a match v Pipe?

Darts players are ridiculously over rewarded for such a simple game.

The reason? People love to to watch the game on tv and that brings sponsors money flooding in.

If there were many more Justin Pipe's on the tour, people would start switching off in massive numbers and it would kill the golden goose for all players.

Pipe should bee forced to quicken up his game, and if he doesn't like it, he can GTFO.

Sports Psychology: Wes Newton - The Justin Pipe Effect!
It's the second round of the World Darts Championships at Alexandra Palace. And the match between Fleetwood's Wes Newton and Taunton's Justin Pipe, is hotting up.

At two sets all, Newton is allowing his irritation at Pipe's slow and deliberate style of play to show. Behind Pipe's back, Newton is tapping his watch, Alex Ferguson style, to let us know that he is unhappy with the West Countryman's speed of play.

Then Newton feigns falling asleep, as his simmering frustration gets the better of him. Of course, with these distractions, the world number five's game suffers, and he crashes out of the tournament.

It's a match he could have won with something to spare. At two-nil up he held all the aces. But the Fleetwood thrower made a big mistake.

He clearly hadn't mentally prepared for the special challenge of playing Justin Pipe. Newton is a fast quick player. Pipe isn't. And Newton cant change the speed Pipe plays at. He has to adjust to it.

That means changing his routine whilst he waits to throw. Slowing himself down and exercising patience. Knowing exactly what to expect and preparing for it.

Newton knows exactly what to expect, but has simply not prepared for it. He has no process to keep his mind engaged whilst he waits to throw. It's almost as if he is bored!

As a result frustration holds sway. What he is feeling on the inside, reveals itself on the outside. Perhaps with it being the World Championships, Newton is simply too fired up. His internal speeds are just too fast for a game against Justin Pipe.

Wes Newton may have the talent to win a World Championships. But he doesn't yet have the mentality. For the mentality of a champion, allows you to find strategies to win against difficult or awkward opponents.

In years to come, perhaps Newton will be thankful for the lessons that defeat against Justin Pipe taught him. But for now, he has to live with the uncomfortable feeling, that with a World Title to fight for, he let undeveloped emotions get the better of him.

Wow, what a wonderful match that Taylor - Thornton jobbie was!

Respect to Thornton who toughed it out, and never flinched in the face of Taylor pressure.

Taylor blinked first, Thornton held his nerve. Proper sport that.
