A good friend of mine (and a good judge) works for Force India and he reckons it is much closer in the F1 Constructors Championship than people think. Vettel may be the best driver but Mark Webber is just not going to get enough points. Ferrari were as big as 4/1 before Melbourne and I wish I had written this yesterday but you can still get 3/1 with Betfred and Paddy and I would like to put forward my first bet for Fred. Although it does tie stake up for a while it will give Tikay a sweat in every race.

Recommend £20 at 3/1 Ferrari for Fred.

Vettel is out to 13/8 B365 and Skybet (from around evens yesterday) following his 3rd at Melbourne. I am told this is too big now and recommend £20 for Fred too.

Does anyone have any views on this, please?

Joe may not be aware, as a recent recruit, but Fred has a horrendous history with F1.

15 bets, £430 staked, loss so far = £313.

The 13/8 Vettel has to be too big. Wouldnt want to be laying it put it that way

Fred should probably take the 6/4 with Hills on Bridge Ruth t3 7:49 Wimbledon. Ladbrokes are 10/11 and think the sp be around evens. Fastest dog in race, somehow the RP thinks it has a bad draw, not quite sure what race they are looking at as the draw looks fine to me, should lead and win. Suggest £40

Hi Tal, There used a to be a blonde French woman in Team Winamax ho was supposed to be amazing at chess. I just checked out their site but I couldn't find her. I think there are a lot of examples of top chess players who play poker. Ivo Donev is often cited as one, but I don't know enough to know if he is great at chess.

I've just checked (double pun ever so intended) and Donev is an International Master, which is one below Grand Master. Very strong player nonetheless. Well above my level.

Quite a lot of decent chess players of his level play poker on the side for their wages, even if they regard themselves as chess players first.

At his peak, Ylon Schwartz was about the same level as Donev. Almira Skripchenko might be the woman you're talking about, possibly.

Dan Harrington was a strong player in his day.

What about Tibor Tolnoi?

They've stopped saying that, as it hasn't proved popular (as far as I can tell). It worked for the first year but we're a little too far down the line for that I would think.

I wonder whether he'll ad lib a response to Ed Balls doing his "flatlining" hand gesture from across the despatch box? A labour minister used that term just yesterday on TV.

Good one, yes. He's a Hungarian Grandmaster.

There's a good story about America's top player, Hikaru Nakamura, who - like Grischuk - is in the elite bracket. He was being trained by Garry Kasparov in 2011, as Kasparov saw huge potential in him (already world top ten but the possibility of going further). A few months into their relationship, Kasparov reportedly invited Nakamura to his base somewhere in Eastern Europe, only to get the response that Nakamura would prefer instead to play in the WSOP main event. The two - as far as I know - haven't spoken since.

Nakamura bust on day 2.

Kasparov said:

“Poker is now everywhere, as amateurs dream of winning millions and being on television for playing a card game whose complexities can be detailed on a single piece of paper”

I think this looks right.  Red Bull tend to get better over the season, and are already clear.  I don't like the other bet.  Red Bull > Ferrari and Webber > Massa.  The bets seem contradictory to me.

So we want to get with Vettel, yes?

Current best price is 8/5

Have been researching a different market in the budget

Sips of water

In 2011 Osborne took 4 sips of water

In 2012 8 sips of water

This is very much an outlier from long term trends

Brown was a 2 sips per speech man at most, Darling never got above 1

It's likely to be a difficult speech. Unpopular government in austere times, lots of cuts, no growth, but debt not reducing. Likely to have dry mouth and he strikes me as the nervous lily-livered sort anyway

So am scouring for a sips of water betting market to go overs...
