Quick question for maths guys please.

One firm offers EW 1/4 odds 4 places paid @ 18/1, another firm same but 3 places paid @ 22/1. Which is better value?

Thanks.

Not as simple as that unfortunately.  Depends on the number of runners and shape of the race/event.  best way to figure it out generally is to work out the book percentages for the win and place elements and take the one that is lower.

you would need to say how many runners there were mate, in your opinion how many in the field are competitive?

27th minute

Outswinging corner taken by Paul Coutts, Header by Jake Buxton from deep inside the penalty area misses to the right of the target.

Leicester go from 0-1 to 2-1 up in minutes.

Palace losing, which I think we like.

Blackburn winning, we don't like that.

Look on the bright side, at least we'll be able to get 12s on Blackburn again soon Sad

Swindon and MK Dons are both winning which is not good for our Walsall to be relegated bet..

I've a greyhound recommendation for tomorrow evening's Sky card at Kinsley but before placing the bet I hope to get a little feedback from other greyhound backers, perhaps Dubai or lee h are about, as I just want confirmation that the price is too big.

Excuse the somewhat formal tone of the below but it is something I wrote for elsewhere....

Six quality dogs line up in the 9:19pm final of the Gymcrack, ran over 462m at Kinsley, having battled through two previous rounds of the competition but Sidaz Scotty is a worthy short priced favourite. In the heats it has ran sectionals of 5:10 and 5:12 as well as 5:11 in a trial before the competition began.

When compared to the other dogs in the race that looks like it will get Scotty, at the very least, a length advantage at the first bend which is obvious a bonus as it is likely to avoid any drama which Kinsley is somewhat known for. When leading at the first bend, Scotty will take all the catching, having ran 27:49secs and 27:39secs in two of its last three runs with the third run also being a respectable 27:61secs.

None of the other dogs in the race have got within about a length and a half of those times and a repeat will see Sidaz making all on his way to claiming the trophy for his owners.

The only slight negative is that the dog in trap 5, Droopys Odell, has a horrific draw as it seems to be one of the tightest railers in racing and will dive left out the boxes. However, trap 4 should feel the force of that and the selection should be quick enough away to avoid any drama.

Without that possibility, Scotty would be a recommend as short as 4/6, a price that it might still go off at tomorrow. It is already a fair bit shorter elsewhere.

Gymcrack Final - 9:19pm Kinsley - 17th April

Recommend £30 Sidaz Scotty at Evens with Paddy Power.

Thanks reds & bobby. Had assumed it wasn't straight forward. It's for La Fleche Wallonne, tomorrow.

Basically, 20-30 on that list can podium. It is pretty wide open. On sunday in the Amstel Gold Race the winner was something like 80/1

scotty, or other dog fans

What is the process by which a dog gets to the Greyhound Derby final?

regional qualifiers, rounds? semis etc etc?

there's hundreds of dogs in the betting markets.....so realistically this far ante-post something has got to be a more than reasonable animal to be sub 16-1 in the betting hasn't it?

Loadsa luck involved in the Greyhound Derby.

Anything can enter and they have heats with the top 3 going through each race into the next round.

Maybe 6 races in a month to win it.

You need a luck of the draw - once saw 3 of the 4 favs get drawn together in round 2 - , a very hardy dog and obviously a very quick one.

132 entries I believe. And as Camel states, three go through from each race in each round until we are left with 6 dogs for the final.

Owners/Trainers enter their dogs and then usually the best are selected. I think there was something like 150 entries last year so not many missed out.

Last year there were 3 or so dogs under the 16/1 you mentioned iirc and thus far we've got Ballymac Eske, who has been supremely impressive, as short as 7/1. Like Camel said, lucky plays a part and couldn't back anything at the price in a 6 round comp.
