Was the additional £15.... Not to cover commission? On the Brighton bet

I sent Vince a copy of my Betty Statement for his opinion, & it clearly shows Commission on other winning bets, but it has NOT been charged on this bet, for some reason.

Did you place the "win" bet on betty earlier or was that on with a bookie?

The original win bet was placed with Cyril Stein & Co.

F1

Tyre supplier Pirelli has been told to revert to 2012 tyres

This is unprecedented mid-season but reflects concern that they went to far on the 2013 tyres which are virtually unraceable for some teams, notably Mercedes

It is a bit galling for the likes of Ferrari, Lotus and Force India who worked the tyres out well, and raced accordingly

It is a modest positive for the Vettel F1 bet, as Red Bull were at a disadvantage to the teams above

The aim is to go back to 2-3 pit stops maximum, as 4+ was felt to be too confusing for the spectacle...

This is another positive for my idea at the weekend for possibly looking at Mercedes for Monaco. We know they have superior one lap pace, and qualify on pole. We know Monaco overtaking is virtually impossible and now we know the tyre disavantage is lessened. One to look at ahead of that weekend

In generally F1 drivers are still asked to be tippy tappy tyre amnagers rather than flat out racers, and today is a first step in changing that

That is exrtraordinary, particularly as, I assume, ALL Teams had to agree to it?

Yes, unprecedented

A particularly stupid sport to bet on (as we know through want of trying) has been made to look silly.

From Rock To Toffee? - Gus Poyet well backed from 33/1 into 9/2 for Everton job.

Martinez 3/1, Stubbs, 5/1, Lennon 11/2, Mackay 11/1

these B365

I'm assuming this is just a reaction to last night and in a thin market 33-1 to 9-2 won't take a lot of money?

The chorus of disapproval from affected teams, as well as calls from media and fans to do something about the high degradation tyres has led Pirelli to announce today that it is to make construction changes to its tyres from the Canadian Grand Prix in June onwards.

The Italian company is conducting meetings at its Milan base to establish whether any compound changes are required as well.

The news will come as a blow to Ferrari and Lotus, which mastered the delicate Pirelli rubber in Spain last weekend to take the podium slots, as well as Force India, but will be welcomed by the powerful lobby led by Red Bull and Mercedes calling for more durable tyres.

Accepting that four stop races, like Sunday’s Spanish GP are not acceptable, Pirelli’s Paul Hembery told Autosport today, “We never intended for there to be four-stop races, so we are going to make construction changes to the tyres. We will be taking some of the design of the 2013 tyres, but also some of the elements of the 2011 and 2012 products that served us so well during that period.

“We want to go back to having two or three stop races.”

It was telling that the TV coverage in the last two Grands Prix, produced by FOM, has broadcast numerous messages from drivers like Lewis Hamiton saying, “I can’t drive any slower” and engineers urging drivers to take it easy and protect the tyres. This has increased pressure on Pirelli and provoked a backlash in the media and among fans.

Having opted to be more aggressive in the 2013 tyre range, Pirelli is having to row back on that, citing the increased levels of downforce the teams have generated over the winter overstressing the tyres.

“It was a combination of factors that have come together, “Hembery added. “We didn’t want to make too many dramatic changes, and we do not want to penalise those teams that have taken a design direction to look after the tyres.

“Equally, we had to do something to improve the situation.”

Ideally what Pirelli should aim to do is recalibrate the tyre to maintain the current pace but with slightly less degradation and less wear, to trim it back to 2/3 stop races.

The development tyre tested out in Spain at the weekend was very slow, almost 2.5 seconds off the pace and with very poor warm up, so that is not the answer.

But it is never desirable to change fundamentals part way through a season and inevitably some teams will gain and others lose from this, which could cast a shadow over the outcome of the championship.

Ferrari, Lotus and Force India are entitled to feel aggrieved as they have engineered their car around the tyres that were handed out to all teams in testing and at the start of the season, but there are warning signs that fans are starting to turn away from the current style of racing.

Has to be good news for Vettel. Note Red Bull lobbying for the change

Red Bull v v dominant  in 11-12 on the former tyres and has the best aero package for durable tyres.

currently 11/8 for the title

Daily Report Tuesday 14th May

LOSS on Month = £91.98

Outstanding bets £1099.5

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aia1Hxq-NDNWdFk3UmlTSXMzTjRBTVNfOWRndVFsZHc&usp=drive_web#gid=24

We lost £19.21 yesterday

The sole winner was £15.79 being the net result of the Brighton lay at just over 2/1 against the Brighton back at 9/2, after their somewhat surprising loss at home to Palace in the second leg of the Championship play-offs. With that, the over £600 freeroll if Brighton won the Play offs disappeared.

Disappointing, but Brighton I would think could be favourites to go up next year, and I am sure we'll be having some fun with them next season

In the losers column we had Hiseh to beat Stosur in the Womens Tennis at a juicy 9/2 but she lost comfortably 6-2 6-3 -£10

Capellanus at Musselburgh went off shorter than our price but could only manage 4th -£25

Elsewhere mixed news on the longer term stuff

Mumbai went top of the IPL table after 14 of the 16 round robin games after spectacular hitting from Kieron Pollard rescued a lost situation against Surprisers Hyderabad. We have Mumbai at 5-1

In the cricket Durham beat Surrey to go top of LVCC1. Durham have won 3 games out of 5. Marvellous, except we have them to finish bottom.

Was that one recommended by Eso Kral?

"
Which teams will be most affected by these changes?
Thermal management of the tyre is the key this year and teams like Ferrari, Lotus and Force India have prioritised this in their 2013 designs. All three have good aerodynamics, but they have engineered in a way to keep the tyre in its ideal operating window by a combination of a stable aero map, a mechanical package which is in sympathy with the tyre and a good set-up.

Red Bull has very good aerodynamic package, as it has for many years now, but inferior mechanical package and thermal management of the tyres.

These weaknesses assume less importance with the changes Pirelli is making, they are likely to increase the operating window of the tyres and increase the durability and that reduces the importance of the thermal management."

Would liike to recommend the Vettel position is doubled (£20 more) at 11/8 in the light of this news

Some semi-inside info is that the Lords pitch for the first test against New Zeland on Friday is slow and low

The chances are that Bresnan plays ahead of Finn

It is a two test series, second test at Headingley which so far has seen scores of over 500 and 600 this season

The England top bowler market reflects conventional thinking. English summer, seam bowling etc

http://www.oddschecker.com/cricket/england-v-new-zealand/test-series/england-new-zealand-tests/top-england-bowler

However two games on a slow pitch and a batting paradise make me think we should be looking at Swann at 9/2

Anderson is priced up
Broad is priced up
Finn and Bresnan might not play two tests.

Swann will play both

Saw him last week and he is fit, and bowling with plenty of rotation on the ball. Was much missed against a left hander like Rutherford in the series earlier this year and will be the stock bolwer bowling a lot of overs on these wickets at these venues

Recommend £20 Swann top series bowler 9/2

God bless corporate speak.

Heaven knows what these chaps would make of all that.

The first photo, incidentally, is one of the most famous in Motor Racing, & features Strirling Moss & Denis Jenkinson in the 1955 Mille Milgia, & it was reading about (though several years later) that which first ignited my love of motorsport.
