Seems a reasonable excuse.

Note, this may be the first ever use of an interrobang on Fred.

Evening Tikay.

I don't know if you are up, but I think there is an excellent each way bet in the Barclays Golf.

The leaderboard reads
Matt Kuchar -12
Gary Woodland -12
Kevin Chapell -11
Two on -8 including Tiger Woods
Seven on -7 including Jim Furyk and Bubba Watson.

Chappell doesn't look that great with a couple of 2nds and a couple of 3rds on the PGA tour since touring pro in 2008, and a fair few recent missed cuts.  He was a strong collegiate player before that.

The betting is 11/8 Kuchar, 3/1 Woodland, 8/1 Woods, 9/1 Chapell.  That all looks understandable looking at Chapell's record and quite a few recent missed cuts.  9/1 is roughly where he is on Betfair too.

But why we have to bet him is that Coral are offering quarter the odds first three.  With that distribution of scores, 9/4 the place looks a steal, so we must put our betting boots on.

Suggest £40 each way Kevin Chapell in The Barclays at 9/1 with Corals.

Morning Mr Doobs.

I'm afraid I had long fallen asleep when you put this up.

Corals now go 8/1. You snooze, you lose.

I've made an executive decision to go with this anyway, even though the numbers are not quite as favourable as they were @ 9/1.

Betty is still currently 9/1, but they don't have a like for like place market, just "Top 5" & "Top 10". He is long odds on for both.

If anyone else wants to get on, Boylesports also go 8/1, & quarter odds. SkyBet are also quarter, but only 15/2.

I think it must still be a good bet.  Would probably have reduced stakes, but maybe they should have been bigger in the first place, so maybe we are about right now?

With Bubba Watson and Jim Furyk at -7, we must be about evens to get a place too, so hopefully we will get a good sweat tonight.

Daily Report

Profit on Month £729.95

Outstanding Bets £2911.06

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aia1Hxq-NDNWdFk3UmlTSXMzTjRBTVNfOWRndVFsZHc#gid=28

Well now, no less than 29 positions and long term bets to report on. 90 minutes or so of research last night told me I needed to set my alarm to get this written!

Firstly yesterday's results, where overall the thread won £77.

Star performer, once again, BadBeat with Magic City's win at 6-1 netting £300. That's profits of over £1,000 gross for Neil this month from his racing selections and without those bets, well it would have been a very tough month

Also in the winner column Afsare at 2-1 for Doobs and a £100 profit, Inverness Caledonian Thistle drawing with Celtic for a net profit of just under £77 and Rasharkin winning in Antrim for thread debutant Micko

The losers column offset the above:

Horses Mister Impatience, Spirit of Law, Balardy, Excellent guest and free bets Ted Veale and Opinion all lost at generally long prices

We laid Arsenal and Liverpool and that accounted for nearly £200 of losses

Hull lost the Rugby League Challenge Cup final 16-0

Dustin Johnson's missed cut in New York was accounted for, also

What else happened yesterday? Well there are so many positions....

On the season bets we made progress in the following:

Arsenal won comfortably and look more like a potential top three side

Hull City won to get off the handicap mark for us

Crystal Palace have lost two out of two

Kidderminster won to go second in the conference and are now favourites with some firms

Nakhi Wells and Britt Assombolonga scored and have 9 goals between them in 6 total games in League Division One

Darren Bent, a top goal-scorer longshot, scored for Fulham

In the negatives

Eso Kral's Barnsley selection looks one of the worst for a while.

Southampton don't look like relegation candidates

Liverpool don't look likely bottom half finishers

Reading lost at Blackpool

In the Golf at the Barclays in New York Jim Furyk is tied 6th going into the final round and appears to be the only one of the five remaining selections in the hunt for a return. I am not sure what the each way terms are.

In baseball the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Yankees 4-2 to win that series, and the Red Sox beat the Dodgers so it remains tied at the top of the AL East.

In Cricket, a rained off fourth day at the Oval was good news for our Swann bet, and we have one day to survive. If Harris does not take four wickets we should have a nice return there and a small profit overall on the Ashes series bets.

In County Cricket, Katich got out early yesterday. Then, Moeen Ali of Worcestershire scored yet another 100 to storm ahead at the top of the LVCC2 run scorers table again.

Catching up with the cricket tables

LVCC1 now appears to be Yorkshire's and Middlesex are fighting Sussex for an each way return for us

   Team    P    W    L    D    Bat    Bowl   Ded    Points
1    Yorkshire    12    6    1    5    39    31    0.0    181.0
2    Middlesex    12    5    3    4    26    30    0.0    148.0
3    Sussex    12    4    2    6    37    29    0.0    148.0
4    Durham    10    5    3    2    21    28    2.5    132.5
5    Warwks    12    3    2    7    29    32    0.0    130.0

LVCC2 Northants are over a win clear of Essex and Gloucs and we remain well placed for an each way return there. Would be lovely to pip Lancs, but it appears unlikely

LV County Championship - Division Two

   Team    P    W    L    D    Bat    Bowl   Ded    Points
1    Lancs    11    6    0    5    26    30    1.0    166.0
2    Northants   12    4    2    6    40    34    0.0    156.0
3    Essex    11    4    3    4    26    26    3.0    125.0
4    Gloucs    12    3    3    6    33    25    0.0    124.0

Today?

Safety Car at Spa would be Nice

Hamilton or Vettel to win for our season bets

Furyk challenging for the Barclays is needed, looking at the other golf selections

Middlesborough winning at Wigan would have our Mr Spellcheck delirious

Pellegrini and Man C need to win at Cardiff, with Navas at the fore

Athletico Bilbao, Villareal to win, please

Watford to beat Forest (a game where if neither could get a point, I'd be happy)

Phew, I think I am done

Incredible amount of work in that Report Rich, I don't know how you cope, or keep up with it all. Thank you.

In London this morning it is raining, very dull, heavily overecast, & it has rained all night.

Incidentally, apropros nothing really, but our Graham Swann bet @ 11/2 is a FREE BET I believe.

Good work on the updates Tighty. It's hard to keep up with it all on Saturdays. I've been so busy I've barely found time to have a football bet. I'll be kind of glad when evening racing ends.

Love that golf bet and I think 8/1 is fine. If we never knew the 9/1 existed we'd be very happy taking 8/1. I think sometimes we get hung-up on what prices were around and I often hear Tikay say we can't take 10/1 as we missed 16/1. Sometimes things have changed in between and we now have much greater knowledge or new information and it's possible 10/1 could be a big price - obviously it's quite a safe way of making sure we don't jump on bandwagons late which is a trap to avoid. It's all a balance.

If anyone here knows Nicky Power he has a fun cheer. He has £35 matched at 797.4 on Betfair Chappell (yes 796/1). Gets almost £28,000.

On the horse front yesterday I was amazed at the drift. I have literally no idea how that happened. It wasn't like there was a ground worry, (Goodwood had way less rain than York but looked way softer due to the moron Seamus and his watering can), the draw can change around on heavy but it still looked like the best draw and he rode it like a massive trier.

Personally I just pressed up. I was very happy to win but nowhere near as satisfied as I would have been if it had gone off 3/1. Weird isn't it? If that had happened I would have had much less on.

Bit sad not to get much of a run from Excellent Guest. He tracked the favourite and had the split to come through with him, but not the pace.

On the maths Webber looks a small each-way bet at 9/1 today. I hate the sport but it's good for betting. Could you put me off?

Not sure what we ended up doing on Cinncy but if we haven't had at least £300 on the division can I add to the support of that bet.

Bobby explains perfectly how these things work. The market is established in the UK by just a couple of odds-compilers, (possibly the Ladbrokes and Hills guys who seem to really like NFL). They put prices up 6 months ago. All other firms simply copy with no thought at all. Some may shade them slightly if they have a guy working there who has some kind of opinion. Nobody at most of these firms cares enough to read anything about the sport. They simply watch Oddschecker and move prices only if things change there. As none of these people have an opinion nothing changes. With the season starting in a few weeks there is a good chance the Hills and Ladbrokes guys are taking a timely holiday and the tennis or rugby guy has been asked to "keep an eye on the NFL".

This is how markets become stale. It's a great opportunity to strike and punish.

On the Superbowl market on Betfair Cinncy are just a slightly smaller price than the other two but this is not a massively liquid market at the moment.

 Still 9/4 with Ladbrokes.

Good morning thread/Tikay,

One thing you forgot to mention in that rather long list of yours Tikay, was that AC MIlan got beat yesterday and we have an ante post wager on Napoli (albeit small). You can still get 15/2 with youwin for Napoli to win the Serie A title, and also 4/6 the place 1,2,3 though this is with Stan James or with Betfair. With Napoli having bought rather well over the summer despite letting Cavani go, I think their chances of a place in the top 3 are very high, and would thus give you a free bet at the title.  Suggest something like 20 quid the win, with 30 on the place??? Open to ideas to stake variations perhaps more may be a good way ahead? I know I have been hammering it large.

Good luck!

Correct, £100.

Neil seems to suggest we should get out our very rarely used DOUBLE MAX button, is that correct?

If the bet is that good, I'll happily do the deed. Let me know, please.

It was originally suggested by Bobby, & he proposed £100 for Fred, but I happen to know he has had a "decent bet", & on his advice, so have I.

Neil's call, You know bobby1 and I like the bet.

As Neil and bobby1 have both suggested, NFL season bets need to be thought about and transacted this week before the books "freshen up" in 10 days or so before the start of the season a week Thursday
