F1 news: Ross Brawn will leave Mercedes at the end of the season

Bwin has a market for the constructors' championship without Red Bull:

Mercedes 4/5
Ferrari 2/1
Lotus 7/2

(111%)

Current position is:

Mercedes  313 points
Ferrari        309
Lotus          285

Massa isn't setting the world alight but Red Bull look to be so dominant at the moment that it will be hard for teams to accumulate many more points than their rivals. Three grands prix left: Abu Dhabi (which last year saw Lotus's Raikonnen narrowly edge out Fernando Alonso of Ferrari), USA (Hamilton of Mclaren beat Vettel and Alonso) and Brazil's famous Interlagos circuit (Button won comfortably ahead of the two Ferraris).

Interested in whether there's anything to be gained from a bet on any of these three teams in the view of our F1 Elders.

Is that recent news? Quite a blow that. Retiring, or going elsewhere?

Most teams have one Principal: Red Bull has Christian Horner, Lotus Eric Boullier, Mclaren Martin Whitmarsh and so on. Mercedes has a newish management structure that is much less defined than its rivals'. This has become a problem for Brawn, who is used to being the main man, from Ferrari to Mclaren to his own team. It's been rumoured for a while that he might go and he said himself that he needs to have a clear understanding of what he will be asked to do before he can decide whether he wants to do it.

Now he knows and he's off.

It's a surprise in that he's one of the most respected technical guys in F1 and Mercedes need someone to pull those strings in order to challenge for titles. But they have kept recruiting in the last couple of years, so it's not all that surprising to see someone feel usurped. It can't be a happy camp at Mercedes right now. But maybe that's no more true now than it was a few months ago.

Thanks, & yes, that all fits.

He has rarely failed in the past, & it'll be interesting to see where he goes.

I have a book about him, might even be his bio, quite an interesting, & VERY clever chap.

I see this syndicate which staked 35k on the Coral Jackpot coupon are waiting on Brighton or draw for 1m, looks like they want Coral to make them an offer which doesn't seem to be forthcoming.
I do notice the Money has came for Watford so they could be getting out.

So these guys got the lot?

Yikes, well done them.

Can someone tell me something about them, or is there a website or whatever?

any news on this? just being nosey of course.

It's a syndicate headed by Bernard Marantelli, who is the brains behind the Colossus bets , which offers a £10m
jackpot for anyone who can get seven correct scores on their named games.

He was quoted as saying he was going to hedge a bit on it and he is also a multiple winner of the scoop 6.

Was just reading the betfair forum from Brighton v Watford last night.  One punter had obviously backed the Hornets and his post in the 90th minute made me chuckle when Watford were trying to fashion a chance:

"go on...............shoot!.......................SHOOT!................ARGHHHH......you tippy tappy c0ck stains"

The sixth India v Australia ODI is tomorrow morning

All eyes on Bailey

There have been six ODIs at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Jamtha, Nagpur since it opened in 2009

http://stats.espncricinfo.com/india-v-australia-2013-14/engine/records/team/match_results.html?class=2;id=2399;type=ground

The average first innings score is 292

It is renowned as a true batsman's pitch, fast, allows strokeplay. Weather is rarely a factor in Nagpur

In the Four games in the series so far the first innings scores are

304 Aus
359 Aus
303 India
295 Aus

The two batting line ups outclass the bowling

Dhawan, Kohli, Sharma, Raina, Yuvraj, Dhoni

Finch, Hughes, Watson, Bailey, Voges, Maxwell

this is especially because Australia lack spinners and Ashwin for India has been out of form and in general the conditions are not seam friendly

We can expect tomorrow to be another high scoring game

The cricinfo preview states

"Rest assured, there will be no rain pouring down in Nagpur. Only fours and sixes. The new Jamtha stadium is known for its flat pitches in ODIs. Of the six ODIs played here, first-innings totals in five have been more than 290. Netherlands scored 292 here against England, India failed to defend 296 once. Add to it the new regulations of two balls from each end, and only four fielders outside the circle, and another run fest is in store. "

http://www.espncricinfo.com/india-v-australia-2013-14/content/story/683531.html

I make the spread price around 290. Would not be surprised to see 300+ twice

Anyway Paddy Power offer 8/11 over 9.5 sixes

http://www.oddschecker.com/cricket/india-v-australia/odi-series/india-v-australia-%5B6th-odi%5D/total-6s

Which is kind of them

Game 1 :11

2: 23

3: 13

4: 9, one innings before rained off

Average: 14

I think over 9.5 sixes is a 1/2 shot

Were I setting a neutral line, 10/11 each of two, it would be 12-13.

I see we have a bet on Barnsley on here for top Yorkshire club, but look at this....

Top South Yorkshire Club:

Doncaster 8/11

Wednesday 2/1

Barnsley 4/1

It seems like a bit of value to backing Barnsley here, there seems to be hardly anything between all three at the moment, but out of the three I wouldn't have Barnsley at 4/1 & they have a nice set of fixtures coming up, compared to the others.

How it stands at the moment

18th Doncaster 12pts

23rd Barnsley 9pts

24th Wednesday 8pts

A season long bet, but never ever having Barnsley at 4's here and suggest a small £30 bet on Barnsley at 4-1 with Bet Victor

Thanks Rich, very nice.

We have loaded up to the max with Mr Power. Only £17.73, but every little helps.

The game could be well worth watching, as the Bailey bet will be in play, too, a good innings by him & we might kill two bets with one bat.

Hi Aaron,

No, the bet we have on Barnsley is for them to finish TOP HALF, a rather chunky £100 @ 6/1.

I'll need the other lads to take a look at your suggestion. Looks an interesting proposal, actually, but I can't assess it's value.

Not sure if Sherrif reads fred but he is a Barnsley fan who goes regularly so his view would be interesting.

I've not managed to get to any games this season but by all accounts Doncaster haven't been great. Spin go Don 52 Sheff W 49 and Barnsley 47.5. 4/1 seems pretty big and I definitely feel 8/11 Doncaster is a lot shorter than I'd want to consider backing them.

Perhaps the Wednesday fans can update us on the Wednesday situation?

Mandaric wants to sell and if he does that leads to change of manager and investment in January transfer window?

Barnsley's form has been slowly improving, from a low base. I think 4/1 is big but I am biased/long and wrong of Barnsley.

I have the unfortunate pleasure of seeing the situation at Hillsborough as a Wednesday fan.

Right now, its a mess.

MM wants to sell and seems reluctant to put more cash in to the club (he seemed to tighten the purse strings over the summer).

There are reported to be 2 interested parties completing due diligence but that's been doing the rounds for a while and things seem to have gone quiet.

In the short term it's going to be a struggle. MM has recently allowed Dave Jones to sign McPhail, Roger Johnson, Fryatt and now Olivanjana (ex Hull - big black lad in midfield).

In theory they've all performed in the Championship but Dave Jones is struggling to develop any meaningful team spirit. They are getting draws, are not getting hammered and have been a little unlucky but ultimately have no real creativity and no cutting edge up front.

If a takeover happens then clearly the picture will change but I think a takeover is probably unlikely in the next 3 months. Looks like we'll limp on and hope to come fourth from bottom.

I've not seen Barnsley but I've seen Donny at Hillsborough and although they won, they were worse than Wednesday that day and the worst team I've seen this year.

Hope that help Tighty, I think the 4/1 on Barnsley is a decent value bet.

Evening

Would like some opinions please, espec Neil/Chompy, as I think I may be looking through rose tinted's

I notice the Paddy Power market has been suspended and looks like Dynaste may miss it as it was last available at and no money to lay.

I thought Johns Spirit won rather well round C&D last week and could be a bit of value at 14s. I had a bit earlier in week at 16s, but I suspect if he gets in he will be a lot shorter on the day.

As I said, I may well think it won easier than it did, and would like some more objective opinions before I suggest a bet. Cheers

No idea Adz tbh, big jump handicaps not my thing at all. Neil C the man for the job.

I'm more interested in Paddy Power's 7-1 about Rylan Clark taking down I'm a Celebritah. He was a 4-1 with Ladbrokes in March to be in the jungle; if he goes in he wins. End of. 4-6 would be valoo.

A bit of research dug up that he flew out to LA yesterday. US X Factor maybe?
