instead we should be working out the chance he doesn't win with each ride, and multiplying those like an accumulator

I'm crap with the maths on this sort of stuff, but Betfair SB have 3-1 on McCoy to ride a winner today.
Hargam 13-2
Ned B 9-2
Carlingford 11-1
Princely Conn 10-1
Fletchers Flyer 20-1
If someone could run the numbers, but that seems ok to me? Wont recommend until someone confirms if its good or not!
Anyone from Team Maths around, to run these numbers? Doobs is busy actuaryating, & Argue seems to be on a sabbbatical.
Wish I knew the formula but these odds come to : 25740/1980 , 25740/2860, 25740/2340, 25740/2574, 25740/1287
Which when added together make : 25740/11041 = 2.33 , which makes it a great bet I think!
Feel free to correct the high school maths workings :p
The maths for future reference is as follows:-
First turn the fractional odds into decimal odds by adding 1
13/2 = 7.5 decimal
9/2 = 5.5
11/1 = 12.0
10/1 = 11.0
20/1 = 21.0
Next find the percentage chance of the selection winning by dividing into 100
100 / 7.5 = 13.33 %
100 / 5.5 = 18.18 %
100 / 12 = 8.33 %
100 / 11 = 9.09 %
100 / 21 = 4.76 %
Now add all these Percentages together as anyone will win the bet, a OR b OR c OR d OR e
Equals 53.69 %
Now convert this back to decimal odds
100 / 53.69 = 1.86
So about 5/6
i don't think this is the correct way of working out this bet? for example, if all 5 were actually even money shots your method produces...?
A superb 250% overround for the greedy bookmaker

Just to conclude the Cheltenham experience, I've had a PM from Tighty, which included this...
The following accounts now need funding.....
betvictor
ladbrokes
bwin
We hear you, Tighty.
All part of the service.
Someone said at the start of the week it was a waste of time keeping £500 in Ladbrokes. I solved that problem.

Yes you are right Sonour's method would be correct if we had 5 runners in the same race. The odds by your method are 2.28 decimal (so prob still a bet but not as good).

Turn the odds around and multiply them and you will come out around 5/6 still (not to win a race)

Thanks all for the help with Sporting Index
I'm not going to join because I would be unhappy depositing a large amount until I have done more research - and I don't want a credit account.
However, McLaren under 153 points looks like an EPIC bet to me! If you fancy a bit more of a risk, Toro Rosso or Force India over 70 and 77 points respectively looks like it would be worth a bet.
Can't find any decent spots on the standard F1 betting markets right now.
As for the Formula E, the market is currently down - really not sure why??

What price is this under 153pts? throw a 4/1 or bigger bet my way Peter, must be something that stands out at big prices, I don't do shorts odds on unless it's basically past the post.

Fair enough - how do they manage that? Do you have to ask for credit? When I played racing distance markets they only allowed me to bet up to the maximum exposure.
I've had my account for donkeys years. It's a deposit account but they pretty much let me do whatever I want as I have a long track record of settling any losses straight away. Might be different for new accounts.

Those suggestions were from SportingIndex, if I understand the website correctly then you get profit based on how many points under 153 McLaren score.

Dips toe in water...
A v g friend of mine works with Force India and he thinks they will be very close at the end of the season (with McLaren). Any decent odds againt FI>Mc he likes and the spreads are miles apart whilch supports Peter a lot.
