Does clarkson still retain his part ownership of the top gear brand even though he has been fired?  I assume he does.  Quite a weird spot to be fired from a business you have a big % stake in and your image on it is massively important to its success going forward.

I'm pretty sure that is the case, yes, Clarkson still owns a goodly share of the franchise.

If so, a really odd spot.

Technically, he's been fired from the BBC, rather than fired as a Top Gear Presenter, I'd say.

I'm pretty sure I read that he sold his % ownership to the BBC in a multi million £ deal (last year or a couple of years ago?)

Possibly, I thought he just sold part of it, & retained the rest.

Don't think so, it was reported he and the producer owned 50% and that was sold to the BBC.  So even if that is inaccurate in some way, he no longer has a big stake.

Gotcha, I'll stick to naming Vegas Sportsbook locations in future, at least I'm sure of my ground there.

"In 2014 he received £4.8 million dividend and £8.4 million share buyout from BBC Worldwide, bringing his estimated income for the year to more than £14 million"

"He received an additional £8.4m for his 30% stake in Bedder 6, after the BBC struck a deal in September to take full control of the company"

http://www.theguardian.com/media/2013/jul/16/jeremy-clarkson-top-gear-bbc-worldwide

""In just five years the business grew its profits five-fold (and its revenue to £149m), which would not have been possible without the involvement of the show's creative talent. The deal also secured the future of the Top Gear brand for the BBC and BBC Worldwide and we now benefit from 100% of its profit stream.""

implies he sold out....

that implies he retains shares, but not a majority holding

So Jeremy sold at peak value then made the company worthless by being "sacked" - nice work if you can get it

Was just thinking exactly the same! What a life. No wonder he thought he was unsackable after taking that much cash from the bbc.

Awesome.

That explains a lot.

It is almost as if he set the whole fracas up to engineer the outcome, especially when you look at how they milked it for weeks.

Now he moves on from the bbc leaving a token share holding which is worthless and sets up top gear again under another name probably with 100% ownership himself on another channel and takes all the petrol head fan boys with him from the bbc and all the bolt on products like live shows DVDs etc as well. Total genius.

and the advertising revenue, as the new show will be in a peak slot, will be enormous

from the little i know about sky it might be tricky for him to go there but channel 4, channel 5 even itv would love a version of the format

A cynic might say he tried hard to be sacked in Argentina, and when that didn't work he had to think of something a little more certain

Would love Guy Martin to get the gig if the beeb try to make it work.
Bet the schedulers at Dave are having a heart attack about now.
Assume "X Gear" could only pop up on Sky or ITV? no other runners?

I'd be greatly surprised if Sky got involved, they shy away from that sort of controversial stuff, it's all suit & tie & don't get off-Message there.

Today I learned that Aaron cares about every sport under the sun, stadia, Madonna's choice of microphone, half naked chilli peppers, Britain's favourite bird, celebrity big brother, budget bingo, deputy governor of the bank of England's monetary policy committee selection processes, MLB TV right disparities and the location and date of a photo in Vegas...

...but most certainly not Next Top Gear Presenter markets.

Cheesy
