just been totting up
bank of £6k
£3k forward book
£3k+ split between 10+ accounts
1% =£60
current average bet size £30
no one account can easily absorb a 5% of bank bet
so if we do the Arsenal bet its more likely to be £100 at 13/2 and try not trade it than trade it tying up £400 or so (£100 at 4-1 laid) come August, say

What is fred's current roll for max bet purposes? I assume it is between £5k and £7k usually for my bets. No idea if this is accurate. I know we count outstanding bets still to be settled as their stake value rather than their current ev value of the bet.
Good question, buggered if I can remember. I think we began, notionally, with £2,000, & then increased that to a theoretical £3,000.
As of now, we have realised profits amounting to £7,137.05, & a forward book of £3,006 worth of unrealised bets, carried at "cost of bets" rather than current ev value.
So in simple terms, we have just under £4,000 of free float, plus whatever value arises from the forward book of £3,006.
Would a prudent accountant value that £3,006 at zero, £3,006, or £3,006 + 5%? (5% being current ROI).
Personally, I'm not mad keen to tie up more than is necessary, for all sorts of reasons, including age. I actually enjoy keeping bets to reasonably modest stakes, but of course others can punt as much as they feel comfy with.
The £200 & £300 ones are fun, yes, & I don't mind the occasional one, but I get just as much buzz from a £10, £15 or £20 bet.
Got no gamble, me, I'm Lord Nit.
PS - Tighty beat me to it (twice, lol) & explained it better, too. I'd still be interested, however, in how a prudent Accountant would treat the £3,006 of forward bets.

You should have an 'ev' spreadsheet which assigns the current value of your bet (not the actual stake value when the bet was struck). That would give you a much more prudent estimate of your current bankroll. Imagine you were a business your stock and work in progress at the end of the year on the balance sheet wouldn't be the value at the start of the contract but it's value at it's current state in order to comply with accountancy rules.

Putting my boring accountant hat on, the outstanding bets should be valued at cost.
When accounting for stock and work in progress in the real world, the accounting policy is "valued at the lower of cost or net realisable value" Accounting is all about being prudent with regards to valuations....
Hope this helps.

Not telling you lot how to do your job, but we should be aiming for fair value and not prudent value?
To answer Tikay's question, I valued the outstanding book a year or so ago. At that time the outstanding bets were worth quite a bit more than spreadsheet value. Given we have been already briefed we are going to take some losers very soon, then I am not sure we would get the same result now.
I wouldn't want to do it again as it took a while and I don't think assuming 3k of bets is worth about 3k is going to lead you into making big errors with bet sizes.

Most of the bets placed so far seem more like hopeful punts rather than value spots

Begovic is 1.01 to be leaving stoke in the summer and he must be right at the top of arsenal's shopping list (cech might be considered too old to invest in for Arsenal). I have already backed Arsenal at 8/1 for next season and pretty much agree with his analysis. There is no way they go off bigger than 13/2 next season but highly likely to be a lot shorter.
I honestly don't consider Begovic to be a significant or indeed any improvement on what we currently have. I still have hopes of Szczesney packing in the fags and fulfilling his pontential to be a world-class 'keeper.
Ospina is obviously a stop-gap but a very decent one.

Use the first bet on what you think will happen.
Use the freebie on something at a decent price.
I'm going to back the draw prematch, and no goalscorer in running.

Here you go Hutch
I am pondering Real +0 AH for the first bet at 2.05 (better than DNB, stake returned if its a draw) and Real with the free bet
everyone will have a different view

Tell Tikay to stop procrastinating, and to open the 888/Uni/32Red accounts

Oh yeah, forgot again.
I'll have another bash tonight or tomorrow.
I once tried to open a 32Red Account, it was a DISASTER. The most dreadful experience ever, it was like Ladbrokes & Coral had merged into a single online site.
Think we had a UNIBET Account & they snap Restricted us, but I'll have a gander.
