we have £10 at 12-1 on a safety in the chiefs texans game btw

gave up waiting for tikay to give it the say so :-)

just spotted this

"Chiefs tackle Eric Fisher expressed concern about his high ankle sprain to team,  Reid expected to line up right tackle against J.J. Watt"

on twitter

which might help.

Might help if I could remember what a "safety" was.

Seem to recall there was one at the very start of SuperBowl, when the QB made a fumbly? The rest, unlike manhole covers, was consigned to the delete file in my mind.

It's basically when you take the ball into your own end zone and are tackled. Gives two points to the opponent. Bit like a five yard scrum in rugby union.

I'm just looking at the markets for a few player props ATM with the late injury news. Will post if anything appeals.

leaving odds aside for a minute

SPOTY

Ennis-Hill
Froome
Hamilton
Farah

we'll leave an england rugby player and greg rutherford out of it for now

bearing in mind the petrolhead vote and Jess's popularity

give me the top 3 from the four names given.....

Mo Farah's the odd one out. What's he done other than advertise Quorn mince and be accused of using drugs?

Double world champion, won the Great North Run (I know but it's on the BBC and you had an hour of Brendan Foster and Steve Cram...). Froome has had allegations too. Ennis-Hill won a poor heptathlon and Lewis may suffer from people looking elsewhere.

I go...

Mo
Lewis
Froome
Ennis-Hill

I do ask as someone who pays absolutely no attention to athletics.

Didn't Mo's coach have links to doping whereas Froome was accused cus he was crushing the Tour De France?

Some might argue an African born, Nike Sponsored, highly talented runner winning long distance races is less eyebrow-raising than anyone winning the Tour de France ahead of a number of people with drug suspensions in the recent past.

But yes. There's not a lot to suggest either Farah or Froome is anything other than completely clean, beyond idle speculation and the odd conspiracy theory. I know there was a big debate thread on blonde recently about it. I am doubtful the public will decide not to vote for any of them because they believe they're on drugs. What we do know is just how prominently the BBC push their own when it comes to SPOTY and Farah is going to get a late billing, while Froome will be second or just after a really sad piece on someone we lost this year.

Lewis v Rory was comical.

One for the 9.25 game.

Bengals v Raiders

A lot has been said about the Raiders this year. There is a belief they are starting to climb the greasy pole and stop making terrible decisions. They still have a lot of problems, though, and this is an ideal game to take advantage of a questionable line.

Oakland Raiders have a pretty poor secondary, which is the part of the defence responsible for intercepting passes and getting in the way of wide receivers. They ranked 28th last year according to data crunchers, Football Outsiders, and gave up an average of 261.9 yards per game through the air. They are competent at stopping the run, if unspectacular.

Andy Dalton takes a bit of stick for his woeful playoff record, but he's a good quarterback with good targets to aim for, including the monstrous A J Green. Injuries to his receiving options heavily limited Dalton's stats last year, but Green, Marvin Jones and Mohammed Sanu will be licking their lips tonight. He should be a 250-yard QB.

Dalton is also a talented flat track bully. In games where the Bengals are favourites, he averages 10 more fantasy points (which equates to a touchdown and about another 40 yards). In games where the Bengals are favourites AND are playing a team they are playing a bottom half secondary, he is even better (per Number Fire).

Finally, as an odd intangible, according to a Bengals analyst called Joe Goodberry, his quarterback rating against teams he hasn't faced in the previous two years is 104.6, compared with 70.1 against common opponents. That's a serious difference.

Dalton's passing yard line is:

Patrick Parr: 239.5 (5/6)
B-whinge: 242.5 (11/13)
Shouty Red Man: 250.5 (10/11)

I was hoping for 250, so I'd recommend the overs on whichever we can get. I can do Paddy if we prefer that (not sure how the maths works on the odds, to be completely honest, as to whether any of these is preferable), subject to price availability when called.

It's one of the 9.25 games, so we have time for views.

First game of the season suggests caution, but the stats suggest the bookies have got this a little out of line.

Would think something in the £30-£50 region, depending on views and what we can get.

Forget Dyer. Has anyone checked if Tighty's ok?

Lol I'm hoping they run for a ton of yards with Hill Bernard Burkhead and Peerman.Would be interested in Eiferts yards on various seam and slant routes.

the raiders should be good against the run this year. dan williams from the cardinals is a serious run plugger, khallil mack is a monster, tuck, aldon smith etc

agree on the secondary, not the same quality as the front 7

and also the offense with carr and amari cooper should be scoring enough points to mean teams are throwing it late in games against them and not running the clcok

tal i can't get to any accounts now could we have £30 dalton over whatever ti was with you please?

confirm the terms again please

I think my NYJets are going to come good this year, they're definitely due.
