williamhill just went up

Robinesse Taunton 15:40 Winner
8/13
Total Stake: £130.00
Potential Returns: £210.60

Not for Fred, but

For those that have a fully functioning PP account, you can almost freeroll this race.

They are paying Money back(free bet) if you finish second to the SP fav. With 20-1 bar the front two, look a no brainer, if you can get more than £8 on the second fav @11/8, that is!

Edit. Just thought. There maybe a  max bet on the PP promo.

Southend beating Burton is a great result for our Wigan position.

Keeping my theme of random spots at chess events, I saw on Chessbase today that Magnus Carlsen played a 70 board simultaneous display the other day.

The 70 opponents included a nine year old lad and a former finance minister.

Oh and who's that in the background? Should be familiar to most who read this thread:

Carlsen won 67, drew 2 and lost just 1 of the 70 games.

This sort of thing is the equivalent of Ronnie O'Sullivan doing his exhibitions. This particular one was for German newspaper Die Zeit, which celebrated 70 years of publication.

Crucial headwear ftw.

Former premier league manager in the photo, for those still scanning.

Felix?

Not quite as good for our Burton position, but that's just a minor cover bet, wiiiiii.

Oldham's win at Posh tomorrow night will also be good for our Chesterfield position. Amazing that Oldham have lost two fewer games than us this season. Draws are a waste of time, but we don't do draws, even against draw specialists. Have had a few quid on Oldham winning to nil.

Peter, very interesting read.

Fred doesn't do Scuybet because of Tikay's occasional television poker expertery. Some of us mugs can still get on with them, though (thin), so don't let that stop you.

When would the Lewis Total World Titles bet be paid out? If he gets beaten by Nico this season, is he likely to retire? The year after? Strikes me as someone who enjoys all the things that F1 brings and he can pick his team if Toto chucks him out. My concern would be locking up the money for the next ten years. Thoughts?

That would be my worry, too, there's a possibility that the bookies would not settle for some years.

Utility of my £25 is probably better doing nothing in their account, than being in mine Cheesy

I guess the length of the bet is a fair counter-argument. Let's see, Lewis is 31 now. I would imagine he'd retire at 35/36 to go off and become a rapper, or open a dog grooming store, or something equally daft. So, I would say another five years perhaps. The way I see it, it's 10/1, the return would be £500, and I probably won't be doing anything better with the £50 stake, it will just be sat in my bank account with a circa 1% interest rate  Tongue

i think the point is not return relative to bank, its that you could make your own ROI on the £50 many times over in the x years until he retires and exceed £500

i won't be doing that bet for utility/time value of money reasons (and 5 years feels a long time in TfT terms, a lot can happen), can't do the sky bets and can do Rosberg

you dont think Vettel has got a serious shot at improving past the Mercs?

"i think the point is not return relative to bank, its that you could make your own ROI on the £50 many times over in the x years until he retires and exceed £500"

Doesn't that assume that it's your last £50 though? I mean, why not do both, if you could? This being said, I do understand the reasons for TFT not taking the suggestion.

No, engine development is restricted, I don't see how Ferrari could close a gap that large really. The pecking order will be largely similar to last season. That also appears to be the general consensus in the paddock, despite what the media will try and get us to believe.

I've checked the history on oddschecker and can't see Rosberg ever being 9/2 recently. Was it on the exchange? He is 3/1 best I can see and 7/2 on the exchange.

I've almost given up on F1, this season is pretty much the last throw of the dice. I really hope the Ferrari can challenge the Merc this season.

I got 9/2 on the exchange, yes.

Given up? Why? Didn't you manage to get on our bets last year? We did quite well! Smiley

today was the first day of pre-season testing in Barcelona

Mercedes once again put in the miles. the ferrari was quickest this time last year, and its early days, both teams are talking a four car two team title battle, but then they would do

all the teams down to mclaren are on medium tyres for these times, the McLaren is on softs

indications are that the McLaren is 10-14kmh slower than any mercedes engine car at the speed trap at the end of the the main straight

note for Peter, we haven't been matched on rosberg at 5.5. i can wait that out, or adopt another strategy.

Just to clarify; the Force India, McLaren & Manor were the only three teams to set their best laps on soft tyres. Although lap times mean absolutely nothing at this stage, none of the cars will be running full power yet.

No harm in waiting on 5.5, if Lewis tops the timesheets one day, you might get it matched.

Given up as watching it as a sport compared to in the past. Perhaps it is me being old and grumpy and yearning for those halcyon days, but to me F1 is a pretty boring and sterile these days. Still of course if you know about it, as it seems like you do, then I'm sure money is available to be made! I'm on Rosberg anyway, I agree with what you said and he seems a good price in a probable two horse race.

How do you think the Williams will do this year. Does Bottas have it in him (or more to the point, does he have a car that will enable him) to win a race this season?

Can't be good when they're only betting two spots each-way pre-season, and it's 40-1 bar three. Seen more competitive jump racing this winter on heavy ground round Plumpton. Our resident expert seems to make it pay though tbf.

Is this any different to Hakkinen and Coulthard being seconds clear of pack?

Ladbrokes will be on BBC Breakfast in the next half hour to discuss why they're reporting a loss for the first time ever.

Should be interesting.

Steph is to business reporting as Ladbrokes is to bookmaking.

I'm sure a merger with a company whose website is also terrible wil solve everything...
